The new W Club year begins with two new fashion packs for Poppy Parker

Before March ends, and after the registration period for the 2024 W Club membership passed, the first release of the year is two outfits for Poppy Parker doll, both of which are no surprise to club members. One is the companion outfit for the gorgeous 2024 W Club upgrade doll, "Angel Eyes" Poppy Parker, which was revealed during the upgrade presentation: the "Tweed Intrigue" fashion. The other is the Poppy Parker fashion based on Jason Kramer's winning entry in the 2023 International Integrity Toys Design Competition, "Boho Go!", announced last year.

I could not find any Kelly Garret outfit from the 70s on-line that resembles this one, but it surely looks like something she (even Jaclyn Smith, the actress portraying her) would have worn back in the day. It looks perfect for the era and for the character, with lots of items and accessories that could even used with other Poppy stuff. Will probably get this for my upgrade Poppy.

Jason Cramer is a very creative guy and has awesome ideas in this outfit - from the textures and colouring to the faux-embroidery skirt print and accessories. Even me, not a boho style fan at all, am still on the fence about ordering this for my dolls, Jason’s genius is that great. And that bag is scrumptious. Bravo Jason for winning the contest and making such a wonderful outfit for Poppy!

Female Icon Dasha d’Amboise - Doll designed by Vasilen Minkov, winner of the 2018 International Integrity Toys Design Competition

Late last year, Integrity Toys announced the winner of their 2018 International Design Competition. This past weekend the W Club introduced the doll based on competition winner. Vasilen Milkov's winning entry: the elegant "Female Icon" Dasha d'Amboise™. Vasilen won this competition for the second time and rightly so. He’s a fashion stylist in real life and also part of the amazing duo valeyofdolls who make incredible outfits and styling for dolls. I interviewed them for Haute Doll Magazine, when it still existed.

IMG_9043.JPG

According to the rules of the competition, the winning design, voted on by W Club members, underwent a series of adjustments to make it production ready, while preserving the spirit of Vasilen's original design, alongside his choice of character. Check below the original entry.

IMG_9048.JPG

W Club members got to begin pre-ordering her early and in the special price of $150.00 US versus the general public, who can purchase this doll for $160.00 US. There is no limit I’m how many dolls one can preorder. The doll does not count as one of the five W Club exclusives for 2019.

I can’t begin to express how much I love this doll. I am a big fan of Vasilen and his work and of Valeyofdolls too, so this is right up my alley. There are no obvious changes to the initial design, which is a very good thing. Dasha is a gorgeous sculpt and I have only two dolls with this sculpt, so this will be the third. I love the red hair and pale skin combination, even though I don’t think it fits the pale colour of the dress, but the black accessories and the bolero help it fit. The outfit has many of the Valeyofdolls trademark touches, like the exquisite pleating, the leather accessories and that avant- guard style I love. Read on if you want to preorder her.

Passion Week Elyse Jolie by Vasilen Milkov for Integrity Toys

Back in March, the winner of the first International Integrity Toys Design Competition which took place in 2017 was announced. Now, finally, W Club introduces the doll based on the super talented Vasilen Milkov's winning entry, the fiery "Passion Week" Elyse Jolie™. That’s the doll I voted for in the competition, as it was far above the rest of the entries (please Integrity Toys, give Vasilen a line to design). Club members and public alike can order the doll, as many as they want, no limit again.

IMG_5551.JPG

It is natural that the winning design has been slightly adjusted to become production friendly, while preserving the spirit of Vasilen's original design. To read more about Vasilen’s background and inspiration, you can read my previous post announcing him as the winner and see the original doll. The big difference is the addition of the snake bracelet that is inspired by the original snake necklace that Red Blooded Woman Kyori Sato, the inspiration behind Vasilen’s design, was wearing.

FullSizeRender.jpg

W Club members got $10,00 off the general public price ($160.00 US) and a day head start to pre-order her from yesterday and now everyone can enter the Integrity Toys e-shop and buy her. The total edition size will be based on how many pre-orders are received. The doll does not count as one of the five (5) W Club exclusives that members get. She’s an amazing doll and I’m definitely getting one. I love everything about her, even though her hairstyle is the same as Intrigue Elyse. The difference in her make up and outfit more than makes up,for it. She’d look amazing in a pixie cut. Hmmmm...

Winner of the Integrity Toys 2017 International Design Competition announced!

Last year was the first time that Integrity Toys made their annual design competition open to everyone in the world instead of only Convention attendees. The results were only just announced, after a process that begun with the company designers picking fourteen semi-finalists and then 2017 W Club members voting their favourite. The winner of course gets to see their creation made into a production doll in the coming months! The panel of Integrity Toys' designers voted for the Honorable Mention Winner.

The Production Winner (Chosen by 2017 W Club Members)
A new prototype based on this doll will be made and 2018 Club members will be able to pre-order it later in the year, once that prototype is complete.

The Winner is: Passion Week by Vasilen Milkov!

About Vasilen and his creation (in his own words)
My name is Vasilen. I am from Bulgaria and I live in Sofia. I have studied Fashion Design at the National Academy of Arts and now I work as a fashion stylist for music videos, editorials and wardrobe for tv commercials. I love my job and dolls help me spread and train my imagination. I like dolls resembling runway models or such with fashion editorial spirit. Clean and versatile looks, yet modern and unique.
I am a big fan of Kyori Red Blooded Woman's dress and the whole fashion that comes with it. It is really bold and powerful design with complicated but yet clean couture elements. I decided to take my chances with a day look which a fashion editor or a celebrity model would wear attending fashion weeks in Milan, Paris, London or New York. At least that was the story in my head which helped me develop the look. My intention was to create a fashion with play - mix and match potential in which every piece is strong by itself (still balanced in the outfit) and could bring some edge combined with more plain pieces. Something that I would love to get as a collector!

I’m so happy that Vasilen won! I always admired his work (and own one of his sublime creations) and most of you should know him as part of the valeyofdolls duo I had interviewed for the May 2016 issue of Haute Doll magazine. His design was by far the best of the bunch and won deservedly. Congratulations Vasilen!

The Honorable Mention Winner Is…Regina by Saturn Zixing Huang!

About Saturn and his creation
Saturn Zixing Huang is a college student learning towards his bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. He is based in Yantai, China. For him, it was a destined encounter to meet dolls made by Integrity Toys about three years ago. The Integrity girls instantly became muses for Saturn to turn his long-held passion for fashion and dolls into creativity. He has been honing his artistry in repainting, re-rooting, and making doll fashions and accessories ever since. Saturn is keen on integrating new technologies into his projects whenever possible- he employed 3D printing to make doll shoes inspired by Alexander McQueen.

Saturn did a great job with his evening gown, although I find the front lower end a bit unfinished and awkward. He is very talented and I’m certain we’ll see more gorgeous dresses from him. I’d love to see his graphic design incorporated in his clothes.

What do you think about the winners? Whom did you vote for? Will you be interested in buying the winning entry? Let me know in the comments.

Integrity Toys 1st International Design Challenge - my entry!

Integrity Toys has been holding a Design Challenge contest for every convention they hold. This year, they decided to extend this for W Club members from all over the world and proclaimed their 1st International Design Challenge. As many other club members, I jumped at the chance of participating - putting my years of studying pattern making and fashion design at work. The brief was to pick a past doll from Integrity Toys and remake her as her opposite - i.e. if she had a day look, the entrants should remake her in its evening version and vice versa.

I decided to use the gorgeous Aperitif At The Balthazar fashion from Fashion Royalty 2004 Voyages collection. As it was a day outfit, I would make my fashion an evening look. And since it was only an outfit, I could pick any doll I wanted to remake. My pick was Dania Zarr Rare Appearance, a 2014 W Club doll. I named her Champagne At The Waldorf, referencing an iconic hotel of New York, with legendary balls held in it, much like Balthazar is an iconic French style brasserie of the city.

The sketch of my entry - Champagne At The Waldorf

I made the design easily - the inspiration came quickly and I focused on making something that would be relatively easy to make commercially, as the winning entry gets to be made by Integrity Toys to sell. The evening look kept the two-piece part of the suit, turning the jacket into a vest with a shawl collar. The bottom part of the skirt and the collar were made from pink muslin, echoing the lining of the original suit, while the rest was the same pied de coq print as the original - finding the fabric was easier than I would have ever thought! I picked pink for the buttons as well.

Champagne At The Waldorf Dania Zarr contest enrty 1

As my sewing skills are negligent (I can sew a button but that's it), I turned to my friend Maria from Habilis Dolls for help and she recommended her friend Ursula, a very talented seamstress that has made some perfectly made doll fashions to sell; luckily agreed to sew my prototype. The final look was enhanced with a pair of rhinestone and pearl jewels fixed on the ends of the shawl collar.

Champagne At The Waldorf Dania Zarr contest entry 2

As for the doll, I restyled Dania's hair into an up-do, to match the evening look, and added feathers in her hair with a rhinstone and pearl brooch, as the original had a small fascinator with similar small feathers on it. You cannot see the shoes but I used some beautiful black pumps with ribbons at the ankles. The entry did not make the final round but I am happy I entered and would do it all over again! Let me know what you think of my design in the comments.
