Tonner 2015 convention: Guilty Pleasures

The last weekend of May was when Tonner had their annual convention. This time it was held in Dallas, Texas, and was named "Guilty Pleasures". They presented most of their lines there, but we will of course concentrate on the fashion dolls. As was to be expected, Marley was prominently featured, so it seems the company is pushing towards having this line as the main fashion doll line for the company, which is fine by me, as long as they can make more relevant and richly accessorized outfits for these dolls. So while early on the first day (29th of May) the first dolls appearing were Ellowyne and Evangeline, dinner was the first two ladies made their appearance, matching the theme of the night: Rockabilly. Please note that prices are those at convention, the Tonner Direct prices are about $10 higher.

Dixie
Re-Imagination
Centerpiece
Estimated availability: 8th of June 2015
Limited Edition of 200, $165.00.
Available to order from Tonner Direct

Dixie is a dressed doll whose face includes hand-painted details such as green eyes. She is crafted of fine quality vinyl and hard plastic. Her Kit head sculpt and Chic body were fashioned with a bisque skin tone. Her chestnut saran hair is swept-up with a red faux flower hair decoration. Her red and white checked halter dress is adorned with black flower embroidery and a patent leather belt with silver ribbon trim. Underneath, a black tulle petticoat and nude pantyhose with attached white panties are the foundation of this garb. Black lace gauntlets, black beaded earrings, and black faux leather shoes with a racy red and white polka dot ribbon flower decoration round-out this outfit. Dixie arrives with a stand. Cute doll but nothing special for me.

Maxine
Re-Imagination
Souvenir doll
Estimated availability: 8th of June 2015
Limited Edition of 200, $165.00.
Available to order from Tonner Direct

Maxine is a dressed doll whose face includes hand-painted details such as her blue eyes. Bisque skin tone is the colour of her fine quality vinyl and hard plastic CW-1 head sculpt and Chic body. Her raven rooted saran hair is styled in a kitschy retro do with a modern twist. Her red beaded earrings match her polka dot pleated chiffon bodice while her black ribbon choker and gauntlets do the same for her black dress. Black lace thigh-highs atop nude pantyhose complete this attire. Her black faux suede shoes come with a bow decoration. Maxine arrives with a stand. She looks great, probably the best looking doll of the convention.

Saturday again started with other lines (Patsy etc) while the ladies below were featured at dinner - the theme was Manhattan Sleek. The dolls do not look like New Yorkers to me but I guess everyone has a different image of what a New Yorker is in their mind.

Marley Grand Entrance
Centerpiece
Estimated availability: 8th of June 2015
Limited Edition of 150, $199.00.
Available to order from Tonner Direct

Marley’s Grand Entrance is a dressed doll with a face that includes hand-painted details such as light blue painted eyes with applied black eyelashes atop her bisque skin tone. She is crafted of fine quality vinyl and hard plastic with a Marley Wentworth™ head sculpt and a 16" Chic body. She has mink rooted saran hair. Her wine and gold lace dress with satin trim and faux flower decoration shares the same design roots as her wine and gold lace hat also with faux flower decoration and veil. Her matching beaded earrings, gloves and satin shoes tie the ensemble together. Nude pantyhose and panties finish off the ensemble. Marley’s Grand Entrance arrives with a stand. I do not like her lip colour - not with this riot of fuchsia in the dress. The hat is a disaster.

Marley Mad for Accessories Gift Set
Souvenir doll
Estimated availability: 8th of June 2015
Limited Edition of 250, $275.00.
Available to order from Tonner Direct

Marley’s Mad for Accessories Gift Set includes the glamorous Marley Wentworth™ head sculpt with the 16" Chic body with graceful hands. The gift set also includes two other sets of hands: Déjà vu hands and holding hands. She is crafted of fine quality vinyl and hard plastic with a bisque skin tone. Her face has hand-painted details such as searing blue eyes with applied eyelashes. Her two wigs have different colours. The 1st wig is flame coloured blended with chestnut. The 2nd wig is platinum. She comes adorned in a daring black satin coat dress, with rhinestone charm decorations, a black satin belt with a rhinestone buckle, black skirt with ruffle trim, black tights, and black satin pumps. Her additional outfit components include a red satin dress, blue satin pumps, a black lace bodysuit, black sunglasses and a fuchsia pink satin purse with rhinestone decoration. The gift set comes with a stand. I'm guessing she is trying to channel a youthful Anna Wintour. The doll looks great but the outfit is not what I'd like to see on her. Completely mismatched accessories are ok but not special as should be the case for such a giftset and at this price. Great idea to have two wigs although I'd ditch the underwear and have a third, raven wig added instead.

The breakfast on the 31st brought everyone together for the last time in the convention and was dedicated to the Déjà vu line.

Déjà vu Dame de Loisirs
Convention doll (?)
Estimated availability: 8th of June 2015
Limited Edition of 200, $175.00.
Available to order from Tonner Direct

Dame de Loisirs (Lady of Leisure) is a dressed doll with a face that includes hand-painted details such as blue eyes with applied black eyelashes. Her Déjà vu™ head sculpt and 16" Déjà vu™ body are crafted from fine quality vinyl and hard plastic in a cameo skin tone. Her red rooted saran hair is accentuated with pink faux flowers and feather hair decoration. Her light blue dress is highlighted with pink bows and an attached petticoat. Her pink tights bring out the blue in the matching taffeta shoes with bow accent. Dame de Loisirs arrives with a stand. Lovely hair. For the era represented, this outfit is undergarments actually.

She also came on a new Tonner furniture piece, a chaise, styled appropriately for her era. I thin we have not seen furniture from Tonner since the Tyler heyday. It was sold out soon after appearing on the Tonner Direct on-line store. It was priced at $100.

As Tonner does not have a club like Integrity, there were no informative emails about the convention and the dolls, so all my info and photos are from their Facebook page and website.

New JAMIEshow Doll On Michigan Avenue Basics!

During their 5th anniversary convention in Chicago, JAMIEshow dolls introduced their new basic 16" resin dolls, in a collection titled On Michigan Avenue - inspired of course from the bustling commercial street of the gorgeous city of Chicago. Let's see the dolls.

Marlena

She comes with a removable and interchangeable wig cap.  She also comes with a smooth wig cap to wear regular wigs.  Dressed in Organza dress embroidered with a floral motif, and matching two tone patent leather shoes.  19 Points of articulation.  Blue eyes.
Pre Order - End of July Delivery.  Limited edition of  100. $400.00

I love how this one looks of course and it is a good chance to get a much sought after sculpt. Brilliant.

Natalie

Natalie comes with a removable and interchangeable wig cap.  She also comes with a smooth wig cap to wear regular wigs.  Dressed in Organza dress embroidered with a floral motif, and matching two tone patent leather shoes.  19 Points of articulation.  Brown eyes.
Pre Order - End of July Delivery. Limited edition of 100. $400.00
She's gorgeous, although I'd prefer a darker shade of lipstick on her.

Linda

She comes with a removable and interchangeable wig cap and also a smooth wig cap to wear regular wigs.  Dressed in Organza dress embroidered with a floral motif, and matching two tone patent leather shoes.  19 Points of articulation.  Blue eyes.
Pre Order - End of July Delivery. Limited edition of 100. $400.00
There's something about her face that does not attract me. I love her eye shadow.

Sofia

Sofia comes with a removable and interchangeable wig cap.
She is so beautiful and stylish with that chignon. Reminds me a lot of the models Claude Montana used back in the late 80s.

Tatum

Tatum, is a new version 2.0 of Alejandro with a removable and interchangeable sculpted wig cap.  He also comes with a smooth wig cap to wear regular wigs. Dressed in his damper monogrammed shirt and short trendy pants, socks and paten leather shoes. 19 Points of articulation. Brown eyes.
Pre Order  - End of July Delivery. $400.00. Please note, male dolls are anatomically correct and do not come with doll stands.  Open Edition.  More wig caps will be available in the future.
Both male dolls of this release look handsome and are the best male dolls JAMIEshow has ever released in their main line. Even though they use the same sculpt, the different skin tone and wig caps make a huge difference. I would get both if I could afford them.

Alejandro

And this is actually the new version 2.0 of Alejandro with a removable and interchangeable sculpted wig cap. He also comes with a smooth wig cap to wear regular wigs. Dressed in his damper monogrammed shirt and short trendy pants, socks and paten leather shoes. 19 Points of articulation. Blue eyes.
Pre Order - End of July Delivery. $400.00. Please note, male dolls are anatomically correct and do not come with doll stands.  Open Edition.  More wig caps will be available in the future.

Lauren Bacall doll by JAMIEshow dolls for their 5th anniversaryChicago 2015 convention

After Marlene Dietrich (who is also making a second appearance in the new JAMIEshow releases), the company picked another Hollywood legend to turn into a doll: Lauren Bacall. The doll was presented during their 5th anniversary collection and was an instant crowd favourite. There were two versions of her with the only difference being the colour of her gown: peach or lilac.

She looks a lot like the late actress but I think they could have done her eyebrows a bit more relaxed instead of having her scowl so intensely. The gown also looks like something out of her usual style - unless it is something from one of her films, it does not bring anything to mind though. I cannot wait to see her in another wig-cap with a hairstyle closer to that from her early film roles - and outfits to match.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Gene Marshall in the JAMIEShow Chicago 2015 convention

Gene Marshall is the fashion doll that did for 16" dolls what Barbie did for the 1/6 scale ones: established the fashion doll rules for the particular scale and made every doll thereafter compare to it. Since JamieShow took over the line and collaborated with the creator Mel Odom, the doll reached new heights of quality and sophistication. For its 20 year anniversary (and the 5th of JamieShow dolls) the dolls did not disappoint - and we got some added bonus as well.

The convention doll was none other than Gene Marshall in a Lady Grey resin version. The concept had first been done by Mel when the doll was produced by Integrity Toys for their 2007 Gene Marshall convention design contest and now she's in resin, even more glamorous and sophisticated, with her tiara and evening gown, inspired by a Charles James original. I like the concept better with this hair colour than the ashen blond used in the previous version.

And here is a very happy Mel Odom at the convention with the doll in his hands:

Of course there were more dolls in the Gene Marshall line:

As you can see, there was Oona, Madra, Violet and a new, grey-haired Trent in limited editions of 20 dolls per sculpt, each priced at $475. Check them out below in larger photos.

Integrity Toys May 2015 release part 5: the event doll

Each time Integrity Toys makes an on-line presentation, they include an event doll, available for all attendees (i.e. W Club Members) to purchase. This is a doll made in an edition that's determined from the number of the people that order the doll. It is usually an Agnes doll but, since this year Agnes was one of the upgrade W Club dolls, the only core-8 character not represented so far was Veronique. And as this year marks the 10th W Club anniversary and the 20th Integrity Toys anniversary, it seemed appropriate that this iconic character would be honoured with this special release.

In this event exclusive gift set, Véronique comes complete with a black lace teddy, a yellow linen look belted sheath dress with a black and white chenille coat and a black and white polka-dot dress with organza overlay and black lace contrasting bands, cinched at the waist by a narrow belt. The set is accessorized with a black bag, black strappy faux patent leather sandals, black painted glove hands, earrings and a bracelet. Véronique Perrin is a 12.5-inch fully articulated vinyl fashion doll with fully rooted hair (the back looks like Eugenia's) and hand applied eyelashes. A doll stand is included. For adult collectors ages 15 and up.

If this is considered a royal treatment, I'd better remain a pleb. This is the most boring gift set since that poor Deceptively Yours Kyori back in 2010. Not only is the gown a bad reinterpretation of the Escapism Elise one, her coat is shapeless (or at least if photographs this way) and she has the minimum accessories for a big gift set. Last year's Agnes had three bracelets, sunglasses, two pairs of shoes and a hat even though she had only two outfits (if you think of the teddy as the third outfit for Veronique). So excuse me but I do not see anything special or elaborate in this gift set other than the hiked up price - it's more expensive than the Funny Face gift sets which had three outfits with more accessories plus a license fee on them. Compared to the rest of the collection, this one seems to be an afterthought, hastily brought together to be included in the event.

Her face is gorgeous and if I find a nude one in the secondary market for cheap, I might get her as I do not have a blonde Vero. The cream skin tone (Elise is also in it this year) is the one that was used for the FR2 dolls - so it is the original skin tone of Elise and Dasha.

Please note that this doll is a prototype and the colors and fabrics may differ slightly on the final production doll. All photos and information contained herein is copyrighted Integrity Toys, Inc. and Intercap Merchant Partners, LLC 2015 and may not be reprinted or disseminated without express written permission.
