Integrity Toys 2024 convention - Stilettos Out day 1: Welcome Dinner

The Welcome Dinner takes place at the end of the first convention day and, of course, has some more dolly goodies for attendees. "Monegasque Society" Eugenia Perrin-Frost as Monica Frost, designed by Alain Tremblay, would have been the centerpiece doll, if the dolls were actually there. Instead people saw her photo as a pop-up cutout on tables. The secret mystery bonus "Build-an-Accessory" from the NU. Face Seven Style Lab that holds a clue to the convention's story line was revealed. Before the night ended, attendees found out about the next accessory set for Donna Drake's "Cryptic Cases" gift set designed by Alain Tremblay, and also discovered that "Eye Candy" Victoire Roux was their giveaway doll, designed by Chris Stoeckel. This Eugenia is one of the most beautiful dolls of the convention. She reminds me a lot of another Eugenia convention doll, Bittersweet from 2013. And I have the same problem with this one that I had with Bittersweet: the lipstick that does not vibe with me at all. A more natural lip would have looked much better, and kept the style as is. In any case, she is a gorgeous doll. I love the dress (finally velvet!) and the shoes are magnificent with that decorative detail. The character she’s supposed to be is her mother or mother in law.

I don’t know about you, but I definitely did not have Victoire as a showgirl in my bingo card for the convention! The doll herself is gorgeous, but the outfit is missing a material intrinsic to showgirl costumes everywhere: feathers, plumes! It looks almost half finished without them. Pity, as the doll is so beautiful. The impression is similar to the classic Bird Of Paradise Gene Marshall doll from 1997.

A very DVF wrap dress in tie-dye fabric, part of the welcome doll gift set. Imogen looks nice in it but it is nothing to write home about. The back and necklace stand out from her accessories as well as the evidence form.

The Mysterious Build-An-Accessory was revealed during dinner, pieces of which were scattered in the Style Lab boxes. As explained when this year's Style Lab was first announced, those who purchased the entire Style Lab collection received all the components to complete this special bonus mystery accessory. Once all of the "diamond-encrusted" components are collected, they look like a weird device, once assembled. What could this mean? The plot thickens!

Integrity Toys 2024 convention - Stilettos Out day 1: Nu Face Seven Style Lab

As mentioned in the previous post, the Souvenir Shop of the Stilettos Out convention also had the Style Lab dolls, which were all NU Face this year. As per the Integrity Toys email:

For this year’s NU. Face Seven Style Lab, it was a NU. Face fan's fantasy come to life as IT designer extraordinaire Jessy Ayala invited convention attendees to take part in the ultimate heist! What if the NU. Face Agency’s elite team of models had been hired to mastermind and conduct a top-secret mission to obtain the complicated components of a highly advanced device laced with diamonds, working for a mysterious client they had never met in person? In this exciting adventure tale, your favourite NU. Face models got to wear fabulous clothes and take part in the most covert scheme they’ve ever undertaken together!

Prototypes of each doll/fashion figure and each outfit were displayed for all attendees to view and help them purchase the ones they wanted, since the actual dolls they were buying had not arrived. Each doll in the Style Lab is always sold nude; outfits are sold separately.- but from what I read on social media, you had to buy one outfit for each nude doll you got. Total price was $150.00 for a doll and an outfit together: $65 per doll and $85 per outfit. Still no mention anywhere of what had happened, no admission of any fault or mistake, no apology.Which I am guessing was advised by their legal representative as a way to avoid complications. Still, it sucks.

There was a Special Bonus Build-A-Doll thing incorporated into the Style Lab this year, just like in 2018. Each doll and each outfit included a bonus "build-a-doll" component that allowed purchasers to put together an additional, complete NU. Face dressed doll when the entire collection is purchased. That was Violaine, who you can see further below in this article.

Lukas looks edgy as always, ready to hit the town. I can’t say I am thrilled with the silver flocked hair - I’d rather have it pale blonde or white instead. It takes a blueish tone that does not look that good to me. His suit is probably inspired by McQueen - cut out suits have been shown on men and women in the brand’s collections fairly recently.The high heel ruins the look for me - it gives of summer lover sleaziness.

Nadja is a mishmash of the Enchantress and Out Of Sight Nadja dolls, which means she’s becoming really popular to collectors! I’m not that keen on the blueish eye-shadow though. The original Colette (and Nadja) sculpt returns with a sultry look - have we seen her so sexy and seductive before? Integrity Toys 2024 convention - Stilettos Out day 1: The convention collection and welcome doll

This year, Integrity Toys decided that it was about time they returned to an in-person convention, instead of the virtual online events they organized from 2020 onward, because of the pandemic. It sold out as is always the case with the IT events. They did a rehearsal last year with the Curated event (which was sold out as well but it left much to be desired in the organization department). So you can imagine that all club members, even the ones not attending, held their breath waiting for the event to start.

And then the unexpected happened: attendees received an email, about a week from the event, that the dolls for the convention had not arrived and would not be at the hotel, due to a combination of port workers three-day strike, the repeated hurricanes striking US east coast etc. Instead, attendees would have to make do with the prototype dolls on display, a QR code system to place their orders on-site. The dolls would ship to the attendees homes after the event and the company would supply gift cards as credit for the shipping costs. The furore of the club members was such (plus pointing out a clause in the terms and conditions of the convention ticket that specified free shipping in case the dolls were not delivered at the event), that IT had to change course and give real free shipping to all attendees. Of course those attending that come outside the US still have to pay taxes /custom duties when dolls are shipped to them instead of travelling back in their suitcase, and that is quite an extra cost to shoulder. The overall tone of the email did not help, as it was far from apologetic and more like “oops! we had an accident, no biggie”. The fact that the company waits until the very last week before an event to receive their merchandise for it shows poor planning. Even people like me, outside the US, knew about the hurricane season troubles, even the planned port workers strike. Also, since the pandemic, shipping keeps having serious problems with being on time (not that it did not have any before, but…), so it is always prudent to plan ahead of time. Anyway, let’s hope that all this will be seriously addressed at some point in the convention, directly from IT to their loyal, hard cash earned paying customers face to face.

So, on with the show - what is the Stilettos Out story all about? As per the club email:

Many highly sought-after, ultra-rare artefacts have disappeared all over the world and no one, not even the savviest, most fashionable detectives from the the SSB (Secret Style Bureau) and other covert agencies like FPI (Fashion Police International) have been able to figure out how these seemingly disconnected items are related! This year’s convention attendees were invited to participate in this intriguing mystery, tasked to help fictional true crime podcaster/blogger Donna Drake collect clues that will ultimately solve this decades-old cold case!

On the first day of the event, attendees arrived for registration (with early registration taking place on the previous day) and received their welcome bag, which included a mysterious dossier with some clues, and also learned they were getting a Welcome Gift Set, seeing the first part, the "Cryptic Cases" Imogen Lennox as Donna Drake doll, to be completed with more clothes and accessories during the event. The whole thing is part of the clue searching, as she’s the investigating agent all attendees must help uncover the mystery. Imogen looks beautiful and must have been a welcome surprise to people registering for the convention, as there had been no mention of a welcome doll in the event communication. She does remind me of Be Daring Imogen 2016 club upgrade doll and also the Tropicalia 2012 convention had Imogen as a welcome gift set too! She looks quite basic now, let’s see what else she will acquire during the event to complete her set - and solve the mystery perhaps?

Poppy Parker plays Leia Organa in Star Wars: The Fashion Movie! Her braided hairstyle, apart from the famous film icon, reminds me of the Tokyo Twilight Poppy. She has the Spicy in Spain screening. Do you remember the Style Lab 2018 convention collection? It was named Miss behave and had a build-a-doll Poppy Parker doll as gift if you had all the collection bought (her pieces were hidden inside the other doll/outfit boxes). Her outfit is very 60s era space age looks, like the ones made by Courrèges and Cardin.

A new version of Tate Tanaka is always good news. When I first saw online photos of this guy from the convention (the prototype doll displayed there), I was instantly smitten. After a while though I noticed two things that made me go hmmm - his bland screening and his huge forehead. When you name a character Raven, you should go that little bit towards the goth connotations, no? Some eyeliner, a stronger brow. The suit is kind of tame, if you take out the boots and leather cummerbund, but I like its texture, like a deconstructed tweed.

Who is the mysterious character embodied by Elyse? Do not google it, you’re in for a great laugh (or not, depending on your situation). Don;t they google the perspective names of characters before they trademark them? LOL. Anyway, she’s a gorgeous doll, with an amazing gown and quite an original screening for Elyse. it shows what you can do if you step, even just a bit, out of the so-called box. Great work Alain (he designed Imogen too). Having said that, she has very minimal accessories - and why aren’t the shoes photographed with the rest of them? She needed at least a bracelet and a ring.

Integrity Toys presents the Eartha Kitt doll!

Eartha Kitt is one of the most famous singers of her era. She has been called “the most exciting woman in the world”, not only for her extraordinary looks but also her unique voice, acting talent and dancing prowess, making her a triple threat. It was only natural that Integrity Toys would jump at the chance to collaborate with Eartha Kitt's daughter, Kitt Shapiro, and bring to life the Eartha Kitt doll. Here is a description from the company:

The Eartha Kitt doll is a “purrfect” recreation of a Hollywood legend in 1:6 (12-inch) scale, with a vinyl, poseable body for fans and collectors to commemorate the beauty and the legend of Eartha Kitt forever. Inspired by her mid-20th century glamour, she comes dressed in a couture cheetah print gown with a matching overcoat, trimmed in faux fur. The doll is accessorized with gloves and comes with a flocked cheetah, adding beauty and purrfection to your surroundings. Sporting one of her iconic hairstyles, you can leave Eartha on display or redress her in your favorite costumes or couture. Whatever you choose, the Eartha Kitt doll by Integrity Toys is sure to prove purrfectly irresistible.

 The Eartha Kitt doll is limited to 1200 pieces, that were available either through Integrity Toys or through Slideshow, for order for $160 ($35 deposit due on preorder, the balance plus shipping, taxes and custom/similar fees, as applicable, due when the doll arrives, approximately November 2024). There was no order limit and you could pre-order as many as you like, while quantities were available. The doll sold out fast.

This doll was quite a surprise and a nice on at that! I love Eartha Kitt, both her early era as a movie star and Catwoman on TV’s Batman series back in the 60s, as well as her late era, reinventing herself as a club/dance singer. Her unique style and personality always made her stand out. Having a doll like this added to my collection is awesome - and Chris Stoeckel has done a great job on it. The sculpt looks a lot like her in her more youthful look and the face paint is very faithful. I might have wanted a darker lipstick though. The hairstyle is one of many she has had over the years, well know from her Catwoman appearances - I am betting they went back and forth on deciding which one to use for the doll. I would have preferred her shorter hair and have a ponytail as a clip-on extra.

The leopard print outfit is classic Eartha of course, and seems to be inspired by one of her photoshoots, which included the cheetah as well (and hte short hair I like):

And of course there’s a cheetah included. It does not look very realistic in the promo photos - and by that I mean doll level realistic - but it is a nice inclusion. I think it is the eyes bothering me the most. Might have to paint them a bit.

Pink of Perfection is the 15th anniversary Poppy Parker doll!

You’d have to live under a rock to miss the fact that 2024 is the 15th anniversary of Poppy Parker. Who would have thought, back in 2009, that the then new doll would become the juggernaut she is today, dominating the releases and sales of Integrity Toys, and making David Buttry a very happy doll designer! Poppy has been travelling all over the world, making friends along the way, been in a relationship, on mystery dates, on amazing fashion shoots, in films and TV shows - you name it, she’s done it! And of course there would be a special anniversary doll to commemorate Poppy Parker's 15th, exlusive to W Club members.

I was expecting a bit more fanfare for this anniversary - just think that on the 5th anniversary there was also an IFDC collection alongside the club doll, plus the convention Poppy dolls which we will see quite soon.

The story:

Poppy Parker got all dolled up to attend what she thought was a surprise party for her frenemy Ginger Gilroy, but it turns out the surprise was on her, the party was for Poppy! When Poppy arrived at the door as a vision in pink to the sounds of all her friends and family shouting "Surprise" in unison, she was so touched that she turned perfectly pink herself and collapsed into the arms of Chip! He stayed at her side for the whole party to make sure she was okay, much to the dismay of Ginger! - Designed by David Buttry

She’s a gorgeous doll. I love the strong dark eyebrows and eyeliner contrasting the light pink lipstick but would have preferred it on a cream skintone to better suit the pink tones of everything else. The hairstyle compliments the dress perfectly, and is suitable for her young age - an older woman would probably have an up-do with such a look back in those days. The dress is a Dior Spring 1956 haute couture gown named “Danse”. All its photos online are b&w, so I have no idea what colour was the original dress. I would probably have liked it a bit more in a different colour - the 5th anniversary Poppy wore pink, the 10th black, so we could have had light blue or green or even a bold fiery red!
