Another collaboration with a drag queen! And they’re a doll! Shea Couleé is a great choice for this kind of project, not only because they are very fashion oriented (among all the other stuff) but they are also a fashion doll collector and a W Club member! In the doll reveal, they mentioned that their grandmother was a baby doll collector and seamstress, so she taught Shea to sew doll clothes. They also played with their older sisters’ fashion dolls, as their parents did not allow them to have their own - such a familiar story for many doll collectors unfortunately. The look is based on their first appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 9. I love the look, even though it reminds me. especially colourwise, so much of Janay’s look in the Industry 2018 Lovesick collection. I love the printed dress, the fluffy coat, the metallic boots and their overall style! Accessories are lovely, with her faux Gucci necklace, orange compact, lipstick etc. Plus she has her little miniature Pomeranian dog, Baby Couleé and its custom carrying case too. The dog looks a bit weird, especially compared to the real one side by side as seen in the photo at the top of the article. Love the custom stand base too. Will definitely get this doll.

As much as I love the idea of having a lesbian couple officially released by IT to honour Pride Month, this set looks luckluster and too tame, especially compared with the Love Is Love set years ago. And as we are talking about fashion dolls, I would have loved them to be more in tune with current fashion and style. There are some beautiful items among the clothing and accessories (e.g. the bags), but it is not my cup of tea at all. The dolls do look beautiful though and that is a major plus. Ellery’s sculpt was never a favourite but she looks lovely here. Reese seems to use the former Dree Hill sculpt from Color Infusion (without painted teeth). Also, we did not get a video presentation for this one, which is a bummer. I would have liked to listen to the two designers explain the concept and their inspiration in detail.

The wait has been long for the official W Club membership exclusives to start appearing. Usually, the first one made her appearance by August at least. Not this year though - it took three more months to finally have her in our emails. Integrity Toys and designer Jessy Ayala give us "Bohème" Eden Blair, a gift set of a doll and two outfits. The Story:

Véronique Perrin was normally calm, cool and collected, but these days she was frazzled. She was trying to take the family business to the next level, but it seemed as though there was someone stirring up trouble at every turn. While W Cosmetic’s Absinthe campaign with Elyse Jolie was a huge hit, her secret billionaire boyfriend’s presence at the show was a distraction. The rumors that Alexandre Beaumont-Durand, who was already invested in Agnes’s AvW venture, was also taking a stake in W was complete b.s., and Véronique was having to explain that over and over again to staff, vendors and retail partners. Now, Elyse was in a panic, as the tabloids had also linked Alex to Eden Blair, whom he was sitting next to at the show. Véronique Perrin texted her words of comfort.

I am certain that Eden is not involved with A.

Elyse was still suspicious.

Can you do some recon, please, and confirm?

Véronique sighed and agreed. “What am I, a private investigator now, too?” as she made her way down the hall to Eden’s office.

Eden had been a bit embarrassed but also a bit intrigued by the coverage. Of course, she didn’t know anything about Alex’s ties to Elyse, but she did know his reputation. He wasn’t really her type—but he was very handsome with his chiseled features, steely gaze and very fit body. “But really,” she thought to herself. “He’s too old. He’s too much of a player… But he is yummy...” Her stomach was aflutter as she thought about him and his cheeky smile. That feeling was quickly interrupted with an exasperated Véronique flying through Eden’s office door.

“Please tell me these headlines aren’t true?” Véronique pleaded, holding up a few papers. “This guy is already a pain in my backside…”

Eden jumped in. “Of course not! He just sat next to me thinking I was Lilith and the paparazzi just ran with it.”

“Thank goodness,” Véronique said, relieved. “Speaking of your sister, she’s a lovely girl, but please don’t take any of your work home with you where she might see. Agnes is already copying a bunch of our ideas—we don’t need her to get an early peek!”

Véronique was interrupted by an assistant at Eden’s door carrying a huge bouquet of flowers that was so ginormous it obscured her head and half her body. Eden’s eyes got huge. “Are these for me?” she asked, perplexed. Eden grabbed the attached card, which read:

Véronique was not amused. “Who is that from?”

Eden turned around, her cheeks flushed a bright red.

Véronique slapped her forehead with her hand and sighed…

Yes, we are receiving news for the first of our five W Club exclusives really late this year. No official reason for this has been given. I will not speculate but it definitely does not look good for the club. We will be getting too many dolls into a short period of time and this, combined with the really expensive pricing, will be trouble for our wallets - that is, if we go ahead and order. Boho chic is not really a favourite fashion look for me. It smacks of cultural appropriation (mostly white ladies dressing up in items picked from various indigenous cultures from all over the world) and it is not really creative or practical for everyday life. It takes quite an effort to look like you did not throw on everything you found in both your grandmothers’ closets from their flower child years - and that’s the best case scenario. Nowadays, it usually looks more like BoBo (Bourgeois Bohemian), both US and French versions, which, again, to me are anathema.

So how about the doll? She’s bland, as most of the twins really are, with that generic, almost flat featureless face. It’s no accident that the best versions of them are the ones with more extreme make up and hair styles; they need them to look good. The outfit is (again) from the Chloé runway, this time the Fall/Winter 2025 collection. It is not an exact look, more like a combination of elements from various outfits of that collection, plus the now famous letter belt, here spelling out the doll’s name instead of the brand. The second outfit is a pair of patchwork jeans with a tank top. Pet peeve: sporting athletic underwear under a lace dress is a major faux pas in my books.Nice bag (Chloé of course).

P. S. Despite the mention in the club email that they give members an extra-long pre-order window until November 10th, it is false advertising: we got the same days for our first W Club doll last year (10 days) and even more for the second one, later in the same month (12 days). So much for the extra long window. Also, Véronique is not behaving like a French lady at all in the story line. Her reaction to Eden’s affair is more US than French.

Skipping a convention this year, after last year’s debacle, Integrity Toys had announced a day long online event (plus a one-day in-person live one for Poppy in December). It is always nice to get a taste of what is coming for an event, even more so with a doll to whet the appetite. Clairvoyante Rayna (the French spelling must be an allusion to the Cabaret part of the theme, as she is definitely a Circus inspiration) is a beautiful doll, with a great face, a lovely outfit, inspired by the opening outfit of the Fall/Winter 2024 Chloé collection by Chemena Kamali (and by a couple of other outfits of the same collection for colouring). Earlier this year there was a similar outfit on sale from JAMIEShow dolls, so it seems the particular Chloé offering has been in the minds of many a doll designer lately. I like the make up but the boho style is generally not a favourite for me, despite her “diorama” extra stuff like the tarot cards and the viewing globe.I wonder how the box design will be adjusted to the rest of the dolls, unless the booth we see is an extra and not the doll box itself (they do mention minor assembly required). Thankfully we can wait and see them before making up our mind.

The Story:

Poppy Parker is so excited that she was chosen as the cover model for “Future Forward” magazine. It’s the last word on modern living. For their special fashion issue, Poppy will be wearing the latest in space-age couture. It sent her into orbit when they told she was being gifted with the look she’ll be wearing. Now she’s totally “Spaced Out!" -Designed by David Buttry

• Far-out mod-inspired raspberry metallic mini-dress with angled orange satin halter neck and trim;

• Matching orange mod space "helmet" style hat;

Poppy appears quite late in the club year in 2025, considering that a collection usually debuts in May or June. Only one doll this time though, presumably she does not fit with the Poppy collection theme that will probably come later in the year. The dress as well as the helmet hat are from Pierre Cardin’s 1966 collections. We have seen the bag on Get Ready With Me Nadja Rhymes as well as on Mixed Media Thiago Valente. Apart from the bangles, her jewellery is quite minimal. The doll herself is almost a twin of Ultra Violet Poppy, which makes getting her a dilemma, if you have that one already. Luckily we have a couple of weeks ahead to make up our minds. She would make a great companion to Galaxy Girl Poppy or Hold That Tiger! Love the striped glove hands.

Unfortunately we did not get a rotating doll video or a presentation for the doll. Quite a quick rush job. Only two screen grabs from a zoom call where David shows off the doll he has.
