A doll with an Edge by Lisa Ramsammy and Integrity Toys

Almost a year ago, back in October 2013, the Official Integrity Toys Advanced Design competition took place at the "Premiere" Convention in Los Angeles, California. According to the competition rules, the winning design, personally picked by Jason Wu and the rest of the Integrity Toys design team members, has been made into a production doll and W Club members get to pre-order her starting today. The new doll based on Lisa Ramsammy's winning entry, "Edge" is none other than Vanessa Perrin. Lisa had dressed a Vanessa 1.0 for the competition but Integrity picked her latest incarnation, 3.0, to use for this offer. Below is the original doll by Lisa (photo by JennFL).

In an unparalleled move by Integrity Toys, every Club member is guaranteed the right to pre-order as many dolls as they want. The total edition size will be based on how many pre-orders are received.

Dressed in a creation by doll artist Lisa Ramsammy of Canada, Vanessa Perrin is a 12.5-inch fully articulated vinyl doll with fully rooted hair and hand-applied eyelashes. The doll comes dressed in Lisa's ultra-modern creation and is completed by earrings, bracelet, bag and shoes. A doll stand is also included. For adult collectors ages 15 and up.

The doll is already available to W Club members for pre-order at a special price and will be also available to the general public soon. For me, she is an outstanding doll. She looks like a modernized, updated version of Poesie Sans Couleur Vanessa; she is stunning with her silver hair and pale make up. Lisa's design is minimal with an edge. It could easily work as a real fashion too.

Update: The doll will come with extra painted glove hands:

A few words about the designer, Lisa Ramsammy:

Never formally trained in the art of sewing or fashion design, Lisa learned to use her basic skills to hand and machine sew her competition entries and its really draping fabrics on the doll, pinning and tacking things by hand that allows her to get her desired results. Born in the Caribbean, Lisa has been a doll fan since childhood and finally obtained her first doll when her family immigrated to Canada. One of Lisa's favourite past times growing up was stitching outfits for her dolls using bits and pieces of fabric she could find! Fast forward nearly 20 years later, married with a family of three boys and not sure if she would ever have a daughter, Lisa started collecting various vintage and modern fashion dolls in hopes that she could one day pass her gorgeous collection onto a daughter or granddaughter... Then, along came Integrity Toys' Fashion Royalty line and the rest is history!

Lisa has been actively painting portraits of people and thoroughbred racehorses for many years until she stumbled into the repaint world of dolls in 2004. She was fascinated and decided to try her art on such a small scale. She's been fine tuning her skills ever since. She mainly sells repainted dolls on eBay. Lisa has entered annually at each Integrity Toys design competition thus far because she loves doing it and feels it is important to participate even if you think you can't win. In Lisa's words: "The expression of pride on my Mom's face was priceless when I won; she's supported me through life's ups and downs and every convention thus far; it's a great feeling making your parents proud while doing what you love!" "Never say "I can't". The whole idea is to have fun doing it. It was a complete shock and thrill and a great honour to have been chosen as the 2013 Advanced Design winner and I am humbly grateful."

Lisa has entered and won multiple times at the various design competitions held each year at the Integrity Toys convention. Here's an highlight of Lisa's previous wins:

2004 -2nd Place Judges' Choice Advanced Category
2006 -1st Place Judges' and People's Choice Winner Advanced Categories
2007 -1st Place Judges' and People's Choice Winner Advanced Categories
2008 -1st Place Judges' and People's Choice Winner Male and Female Advanced Categories
2010 -2nd Place Judges' Choice Poppy Design Category
2011 -1st Place Judges' Choice Hair Design Category

What Lisa Says About Her Creation "I simply named this creation "Edge" as I was trying for an edgier look, something modern in design. I decided on simplicity rather than pomp and pageantry, something that would stand out and be different than the other entries."

The Premiere: Integrity Toys 2013 Convention - Day III

Third and final day of the convention is Saturday. The W Club luncheon which is always on that day was dedicated to Victoire Roux. There was a centerpiece doll on each table and a fashion as a gift to each member. A new Victoire called Evening in Montreal is being released this winter. Chris Stoeckel was there to inform members of Victoire future releases and answer questions.

A lovely Victoire with a dress that has a style very popular in the 50's but also it has appeared in the convention this year in various incarnations. Great colouring too.

Fashion 2013 Convention Exclusive

I like the fashion a lot (although the accessories are basic) but would have preferred it with a long skirt. I will say this again, no bags for any of the dolls in this convention, which is a bit weird.

The final event is always the most anticipated of the conventions, as it includes the reveal of the convention doll. Everybody must have been thrilled to find out that the centerpiece doll of the evening was Vanessa, wearing a Jason Wu creation!

An amazing version of Vanessa (she's definitely the 3.0 sculpt, although many people see the 1.0). The fashion looks gorgeous, although I do not know how the "leather" feels to touch. The jewellery is lovely as is the pair of strappy sandals.

Each attendant received an accessory pack (including a long skirt) for the blonde Monogram doll they had received as a gift upon registration.

The winners of this year's competition were announced (and raffle winners got their loot too!). The winner of the advanced level competition, Lisa Ramsammy, was presented with a golden trophy and will have her fashion produced in next year's collection. Congratulations to Lisa - here is a photo of the fashion:

And finally, here is the convention doll that was given to all attendees: a gorgeous Elise wearing a Jason Wu fashion! The famous designer said this one is a favourite fashion of his. The recreation in doll size looks incredible, and from what I have seen of the original fashion, it is very faithful to it.

2013 Official Convention Doll

Such a fascinating doll! I am probably one of a handful of people that still do not own this sculpt, and if it keeps getting released in events and lotteries, I never will (sigh). I must say that this year's convention dolls were infinitely better than last year's collection and will definitely be very coveted.

The Premiere: Integrity Toys 2013 convention - Day II

Friday begun with a Poppy Parker luncheon. It was announced that next year's Poppy main line release will be spy-themed. Spy movies were the new and popular genre in the 1960's so it fits Poppy well. Also remember that She's Not There Poppy was wearing an Avengers Emma Peel costume. The line is named "The Girl from I.N.T.E.G.R.I.T.Y", after the great TV series of that decade, "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.". Two new Poppy dolls greeted the guests, one as a centerpiece and one as a gift.

Lovely Poppy as usual. The skin tone is a bit tan. The embroidery and colouring remind me of the last two Dolce & Gabanna collections.

Another beautiful doll here, minimal accessories, basic fashion but her face is gorgeous.

The dinner had a theme: it was the Fashion Royalty Feud Game Show Dinner with Mark Tinkey. People were picked to participate from the audience, competing on their knowledge of the two teams: team Natalia vs. team Vero. Prizes were awarded to the winners of course. Two dolls again greeted the attendants: the centerpiece and the giveaway.

Natalia Fatalé
2013 Convention Exclusive Centerpiece

This is a much better looking Natalia then the convention collection one! Correct me if I am wrong but it is the first time she has the flame red hair. We had red-haired Natalia dolls before, but they had darker tones. She reminds me of many things: Rita Hayworth (both hair and dress cut) and Magnetism Monogram come to mind. Great dress and shoes too. If there were "gems" instead of flowers, the jewellery would be great too.

Dangerous To Know
Kyori Sato™

2013 Convention Exclusive Giveaway

Finally a Kyori Sato that looks positively Asian. I know the cheongsam /qipao dress is a bit stereotypical but I love the silhouette it creates and she is fierce! Great accessories too, but she should have had a cuff bracelet as well. And if you noticed, the no-bag trend continues.

The Premiere: Integrity Toys 2013 convention - Color Infusion Style Lab

The Color Infusion Style Lab is a big success of the convention ever since it was established. People combine nude dolls with a variety of fashions to make their own mix-and-match dolls. Some of the combinations can be seen below. One male sculpt is new (Declan), the rest are re-purposed Jem or other line sculpts and some old favourites such as Romain (twice). There are four boys and ten girls

The Premiere: Integrity Toys 2013 Convention Collection

Each annual Integrity Toys convention has a collection designed especially for it. Attendees can either pre-order the entire collection months before (sight unseen) but also have the option to wait until the actual event to make their purchases and pick the dolls they like. On Thursday, the new FR collection designed by Jason Wu and Vaughn Sawyers, along with a great Poppy Parker doll created by David Buttry, was presented to attendees. The Integrity Toys Souvenir Shop was all dressed up in white just for the occasion. Let's see the dolls:

Item # 91323
October Issue
Agnes Von Weiss™
Dressed Doll
2013 Convention Collection Exclusive

Agnes is always popular and she is an event-only doll (apart some WClub exlusives) so she's always a part of the convention collection. I read some comments on social media, saying that she's dressed like a maid, but I have not seen many maids wearing miniature crock pumps and a large "diamond" ring. She has a certain French vibe, like a model from a Guy Bourdain photo session or a Helmut Newton one. Gorgeous.

Item # 91324
Paparazzi Darling
Adèle Makéda™
Dressed Doll
2013 Convention Collection Exclusive

This Adele looks even more like Olivia Pope then her previous incarnations. Ever since the change of sculpt, she keeps reminding me more and more of her with every release. I love the top but would have preferred it asymmetrical rather than this more conservative option.

Item # 91325
Bittersweet
Eugenia Perrin-Frost™
Dressed Doll
2013 Convention Collection Exclusive

A beautiful Eugenia, with violet eyes and red hair! I love the dress too, both colour and cut are amazing. The only thing out of place is those pink lips - a coral shade would look so much more modern and would compliment both her hair and outfit.

Item # 91326
Breathless
Véronique Perrin™
Dressed Doll 2013
Convention Collection Exclusive

The first of the two Veros in the collection. I have no idea why there had to be two Veros, why not Kyori or another of the many characters of the FR universe? This one looks gorgeous though, and the detail of the back of her jacket is lovely. Shoes look great too, pity the rest of the accessories are basic. And I just noticed that there are no bags to be seen throughout the collection. Hope this trend does not transfer to the 2014 Integrity collections.

Item # 91327
Brazen Beauty Natalia Fatalé™
Dressed Doll
2013 Convention Collection Exclusive

This Natalia is almost a dead ringer for Miami Glow Vanessa Perrin - the colouring, the hair, the gold accents, the embroidery, everything reminds me of her.Beautiful but a bit boring. I like Natalia more in darker colouring.

Item # 91328
Bewitching
Véronique Perrin™
Dressed Doll
2013 Convention Collection Exclusive

This is the aforementioned second Vero doll. She looks a bit different in her eye design. The dress is nothing extraordinary but she has nice jewellery (with a ring!) and lovely black patent stiletto pumps with red insteps.

Item # PP054
Star in the Making
Poppy Parker™
Dressed Doll
2013 Convention Collection Exclusive

Poppy is a dead ringer for Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's here - but in white instead of black. If they had released this type of Poppy instead of the Holly sculpt in the BAT collection, it would have been so much better. Amazing doll. We want more like this one in the regular collection please.
