Fashion Fairytale: Integrity Toys Convention 2017 part 1 - The Convention Collection

October is the month of the 2017 Integrity Toys convention and of course I will be posting all dolls and information as they become available. First up is the official convention collection, which attendees could either preorder sight unseen with their registration or buy at the convention in the souvenir shop set up within the hotel where the event is taking place. This post presents the convention collection Fashion Royalty and Nu Face dolls, while the Poppies and co. will be featured in the next one.

IMG_3093.PNG

The convention registration started yesterday for those arriving early and everyone received a mysterious bag containing an empty box that will be the basis of the usual gift set completed day by day throughout the event. No idea yet who the doll will be or what it comes with yet, but people from the convention report that the # number marks her as Nu Face. My general opinion for this collection is that I’m not overwhelmed but am glad to see that the upgrade Doll which was available even to non-attending W Club members is the best of the bunch by far. Let’s try to guess which fairytale inspired each doll.

Natalia looks gorgeous here, even though her dress is a bit boring. She must be inspired by the Wicked Witch from the Wizard of Oz. The face screening is a dead ringer for Hot Property Natalia.

If Natalia is the Wicked Witch, Vanessa is Glinda. The dress looks like a rehash of the Miss Amour Poppy Parker Dior inspired one. Washed Out is the nickname I would give. Looks like she is the Vanessa 1.0 sculpt. If they were going for a Metal Maven feel, it came out more In Bloom. The dress is a Carolina Herrera Resort 2017 gown. Remember they did Oz dolls for IFDC In 2011, with much better results.(Go North Isha / Luchia below):

Beautiful Veronique in her green dress and cape. The leather corset and jewelry make the doll much more interesting. Details that could have helped Vanessa pop up a bit. She does remind me a bit of her Cinematic Convention incarnation.  She must be inspired by the Little Mermaid’s Sea Witch.

This the upgrade convention doll that was offered to non attending W Club member as well as convention goers to preorder, based on sketches. I’m happy to say this is the best doll by far. Both her outfits look great, she is a gorgeous doll and the Cruella De Vill inspiration is spot on. She will be shipping to non attendees by the end of the month.

This one must be Mulan inspired. I like the hair ornaments but that’s all. Great face but nothing to write home about. When you take away the ornaments (photo above), she looks really plain.  The colouring of both face and clothes channel the Royal Life convention Criminally Chic Kyori:

Eden is undoubtedly Pocahontas. And her first time in a darker skintone, if I’m not mistaken. She looks like she came out of a Ralph Lauren ad. Great boho styling.

The Souvenir shop exclusive is another Erin ( did they overproduce the sculpt by mistake and now they flood the market with her?). This one is inspired by Rumpelstiltskin but she’s not winning any gold medals from me. Platinum hair for a doll personifying a fairytale character that spuns gold out of straw? Come on! The leather coat should have had a dark gold shade as well instead of this basic brown. I like the silhouette though.

So what do you think of the convention collection? Which one is your favourite?

Integrity Toys Summer 2017 reveal: Nu Face Heirloom collection

The W Club members were eagerly waiting for Saturday the 24th of June for the promised unveil of the two main Integrity Toys collections, Nu Face and Fashion Royalty. After the success of the Reckless collection, the company let the talented Jesse Ayala work his magic again for the new one. And he did not disappoint.
Named "The Heirloom Collection" it is dedicated to all of those little items we own in our personal closets that make our looks so special. Each doll in this series comes with one special item that is true and dear to her. Maybe it's a special pair of earrings, a delicate brush or a fabulous mirror, but it's definitely cherished for generation after generation. Jesse said he was in a romantic mood, with a haunted mansion as his setting, imagining the Nu Face ladies had used it as a set for their fashion shoot. Luckily he did not present a goth rehash but instead his vision is that of a very modern, updated and - dare I say - minimal Victorian aesthetic. It also looks like a successor to Reckless, evolving it forward. The body is Nu Face 3.0 which means no waist articulation and pop out joints.

The dolls are more expensive this year. There was the usual, talk of raised costs in China and paying for quality and fully accessorised dressed dolls. In the case it is backed by a brilliant collection, which will help sales despite the price raise. So run to the authorized dealers as some dolls are already sold out - the W Club members having had 48 hours advance warning. You will find them here: http://www.integritytoys.com/authorized-dealers/

IMG_0580.JPG

Imogen is a fully articulated 12.5 inch fashion doll with fully rooted hair. Her look is composed of a bouffant satin skirt over a 3/4 sleeved brocade bodysuit, which sports an elaborate lacing detail at the back. She completes this look with a metallic-finish purse, short lacy gloves and over-sized chunky boots. Her screening also features soft freckles. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

IMG_0583.JPG

Gorgeous version of Imogen. With her red hair amd pale skin and freckles she is very different from all her previous incarnations. The outfit looks nice as well, with the contrasting textures and colours. The brooch is her heirloom, used in a variety of ways: as a hair or clothing ornament. I have a very limited budget this year so she was the one to cut from my want list. I hope to get her in the future though. Her screening is based on the Going Public Eugenia one, which is a firm favourite not only of Jesse but of most Integrity Toys collectors.

IMG_0582.JPG

Oh, do not let the flat looking boots deceive you. Her feet are the usual high heeled ones.  They are using a design that looks flat but accommodates the high heel.

Erin Salston is a 12.5 inch fully articulated fashion doll with rooted hair. Erin is wearing the a designer jacket, matched with a shiny lurex skirt with a black net overlay. Erin completes the look with high-heeled lace-up booties, mesh stockings and her mini-case. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

IMG_0588.JPG

For me, this is the most uninteresting doll of the collection, and this says a lot. She's very beautiful in the Latino skin tone, with a very detailed outfit and lovely accessories (heirloom mini case anyone? Spider ring!) but she is no match for the rest. I love the bishop sleeves.

Rayna is a 12.5 inch articulated doll with fully rooted hair. Rayna wears a fitted knitted turtleneck bodysuit with oversized drop-shoulder sleeves under a pair of daringly low, ultra-fitted motocross pants. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

IMG_0592.JPG

Rauna is in Latino skin tone here, with dark hair, which brings her origins to the fore. Strangely enough she did not click with me. It could be the pInk lipstick, which, combine with the grey blue pants and tassel earrings give an 80s vibe. Her heirloom, the cuff/ring, is gorgeous, although I would have like it more oriental looking. It is a heirloom after all. Doesn't she remind you of Gigi or Bella Hadid?

Nadja Rhymes is a 12.5 articulated doll with fully rooted hair. She wears a lingerie set composed of a delicately constructed black shrug embelished in black petals over her bustier and panties. It also includes shoes, stockings jewelry and her vintage chrome handheld mirror. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

IMG_0599.JPG

Nadja is the smash hit of the collection - second time in a row. Her silver hair, gorgeous face and sexy outfit combine into perfection. I was lucky to preorder her but the dealers who were accepting preorders are sold out. Maybe you can get her from those opening store today. Good luck!  She is a close up doll, meaning a lingerie basic edition, hence the lower price. She does have a ring and a mirror, which is great. I love the shrug!

Ayumi comes complete with her mother's cameo ring and heirloom silver plated hand-held brush and leather shoes. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

IMG_0603.JPG

Lovely version of Ayumi, but not a match to her Reckless one. Again a close up doll, but she has a cameo ring and the brush (heirloom, Jesse said it has real bristles). Her screening was inspired by Ginza Kyori. Her stockings have a fake patterned leather style that looks gorgeous.

LIlith and Eden are 12.5 inch articulated dolls with rooted hair. Each doll comes dressed in a look composed of multiple pieces that overlay to create modern urban ensembles. Each doll in the set comes with retro-inspired handbags, lace-up high-heeled boots, and tassel earrings. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. The dolls cannot stand alone; doll stands included.

IMG_0611.JPG
IMG_0610.JPG

Another twin gift set. Is it me or are they becoming too ubiquitous? I love bits and pieces from each ensemble but the accessories not so much. Compared to their Reckless versions, here the sisters are tame and casual. Still gorgeous though. They will be available through a lottery from IT DIRECT later this year.  Jesse said that the zipper on Lilith's top is functional and can go all the way down, making it look like a dress. Note that in the poll that followed the presentation, the twins were overwhelmingly  the most popular, Nadia second with less than half the votes, while Ayumi was the least popular choice. As far as how they pick which dolls will be available through lotteries, like the twins now, they said it is quite often a matter of getting a doll to the public in a lower cost than doing it the usual way - I.e through dealers - would entail.

So what do you think about the Heirloom collection? Love it or not? Better than Reckless? Which dolls are you getting? Let me know in the comments. And you should also read the brilliant review Marcela wrote in Kotori Couture for the line, elaborating on so many issues beyond mere fashion commentary. Oh, and she also gives you all,the inspiration behind each outfit- so much Louis Vuitton!
