Fashion Fairytale: Integrity Toys Convention part 4 - the welcome gala and East 59th cocktail

Time to check out the first day of the convention, right? An Agnes Von Weiss doll was waiting for everyone at their table, sitting on a giant throne, dressed in a look inspired by the Evil Queen in Snow White. None other than Poppy Parker was the giveaway doll of the evening, in a Snow White inspired look. And everyone received a Nadja Rhymes doll, part one of the "Build-a-Giftset" box they had received at registration. It looks like she is the reincarnation of Sleeping Beauty. After the ballroom festivities ended, those who had purchased a ticket headed to the East 59th Afterhours Cocktail, featuring Evelyn and Constance as Cinderella and her wicked step-mother. Below are the dolls of the first day.

Best Fashion Royalty doll of the convention so far is this gorgeous Agnes. Perfectly reimagined as the Evil Queen from Snow White, she fits the role to a t. The hairstyle looks much better here than on Sea Devil Veronique and her face paint is amazing. But a Queen should have had more amazing jewellery than stud earrings and a simple chain choker. Pity that the two tiered hemline is the only way to see the purple colour of the underskirt.

Beautiful doll but a meh dress. Snow White should not be dressed in white just because of her name! The rose choker should have been an apple one, no? The braid at the front reminds me of the Nu Face Gretel. I hope those boots have a zipper at the back.

A Dior Cinderella? Take my money! Fantastic doll, recreating the famous Junon and Venus gowns from Christian Dior. I guess it’s production issues that prohibit the dress to be completely embroidered (the price would probably skyrocket) so they went for a combination of the two gowns, but still she looks awesome. She is available to preorder, both to attendees but also to W Club members who did not go to the convention, with a slightly higher price. See the original Dior gowns below.  Junon is the French version of Juno or Hera, the goddess wife of Jupiter or Zeus. Her animal symbol was the peacock and Christian Dior tried to imitate the effect of its feathered tail with embroidery in an abstract way.

Fashion Fairytale: Integrity Toys 2017 Convention part 3 - Style Lab Collection The Industry goes to Wonderland

The Style Lab this year marks a major change. No more CI dolls but in their place, The Industry makes its first convention appearance and some Poppy Parker dolls are added to the mix. I wonder if the Poppies have The Industry body as well, which would be logical since they are part of this collection. The designs are inspired by Alice In Wonderland. As per usual, each doll in the Style Lab is sold nude and outfits are sold separately. Again the group as a whole is underwhelming, especially considering both the general theme but also Wonderland. Some of the fashions do rise above the rest but they are the exception that proves the rule. Pet peeve: why do they describe male dolls as figures? They are dolls, simple as that. Now, shall we go down the rabbit hole?

Integrity had done most of the popular fairytales in their Nu Face line, with Wonderland in IFDC 2010, with Dynamite Girl Gavin as Alice. This version of Alice is a bit darker but not goth enough. Maybe on a different doll? It does give off a Russian folk vibe.

This is the Queen Of Hearts I presume. Not very queenly but oh so Saint Laurent inspired:

There should have been something black instead of those red pants under the coat. A long slit skirt made of fishnet maybe? A mini skirt with a long fishnet overlay making a train in the back? Something suggesting a Queen anyway.

Here’s the rabbit then. The black and white choice makes it look more like a Playboy bunny dressed for church then a Fairytale inspired one. A monocle and chain watch would have made quite a difference. And the doll is boring, did we not get a similar Liu Liu in the first Industry collection?

There’s always one male doll in each Style Lab collection that I don’t like at all, no matter what. This is the one for 2017, even though he’s channeling the Cheshire Cat, one of my favourite characters of Wonderland. Meh does not even begin to describe it. Another new character (again with an old CI sculpt) for Industry that will look great with a different styling.

Fashion Fairytale: Integrity Toys 2017 Convention Collection part II: Poppy Parker and Misaki!

What is she wearing? This is a disaster. All that shapeless falbala! The frumpy long sheath does not help a bit. And her lovely face does not salvage this train wreck. I’m certain this looked good on paper but did not translate well on the doll. It seems Poppies have bags. Why don’t the rest of the ladies have them too? She is inspired by Rapunzel. Jessy Ayala said that the hair would have been longer but a longer braid would have caused production problems.

Fashion Fairytale: Integrity Toys Convention 2017 part 1 - The Convention Collection

October is the month of the 2017 Integrity Toys convention and of course I will be posting all dolls and information as they become available. First up is the official convention collection, which attendees could either preorder sight unseen with their registration or buy at the convention in the souvenir shop set up within the hotel where the event is taking place. This post presents the convention collection Fashion Royalty and Nu Face dolls, while the Poppies and co. will be featured in the next one.

IMG_3093.PNG

The convention registration started yesterday for those arriving early and everyone received a mysterious bag containing an empty box that will be the basis of the usual gift set completed day by day throughout the event. No idea yet who the doll will be or what it comes with yet, but people from the convention report that the # number marks her as Nu Face. My general opinion for this collection is that I’m not overwhelmed but am glad to see that the upgrade Doll which was available even to non-attending W Club members is the best of the bunch by far. Let’s try to guess which fairytale inspired each doll.

Looks like she is the Vanessa 1.0 sculpt. If they were going for a Metal Maven feel, it came out more In Bloom. The dress is a Carolina Herrera Resort 2017 gown. Remember they did Oz dolls for IFDC In 2011, with much better results.(Go North Isha / Luchia below):

The Souvenir shop exclusive is another Erin ( did they overproduce the sculpt by mistake and now they flood the market with her?). This one is inspired by Rumpelstiltskin but she’s not winning any gold medals from me. Platinum hair for a doll personifying a fairytale character that spuns gold out of straw? Come on! The leather coat should have had a dark gold shade as well instead of this basic brown. I like the silhouette though.

Everybody’s saying Claudia Schiffer is the real Barbie, so Mattel made one to prove it!

Ever since Claudia Schiffer was catapulted in the upper strata of the galaxy we know as Fashion, she was frequently compared to Barbie. People kept saying she looked like a living Barbie doll so much, that in 1994, Ellen Von Unwerth photogrhed her vir Vogue Italia as The Real Barbie. So, to celebrate 30 years of Claudia Schiffer’s career and the launch of her self titled book, published by Rizzoli, Mattel decided to recreate one of the looks in that editorial, featuring a Versace dress. Here are the four photos they posted on their @babriestyle Instagram account:

Barbie Claudia!

Close up of the doll - can we have her on sale now?

It’s amazing how well they recreated the face and style of Claudia. The doll looks perfect. It would be amazing if she became available commercially, I’m certain it would sell very well. How about it Mattel? As we wait for it, let’s have a look at the rest of the original editorial. Published in Vogue Italia , on the July 1994 issue, titled Claudia, The Real Barbie. The photographer is Ellen Von Unwerth, fashion editor is Alice Gentilucci, Ward is the hairstylist and Francois Nars did the makeup.

As you can see above, the original photograph in the editorial was mirrored for the Instagram post (probably for the book as well, where Von Unwerth wrote the foreword). We end this with a backstage photo, with Claudia holding a Barbie in hand.
