The Story:

It has been quite a year for Véronique-- starting with the Anniversary Gala and Adéle’s run in with Agnes, triumphantly getting Elyse on the runway only to have the nonsense with Alexandre Beaumont-Durand-- and Eden. Then there were Agnes’s attempts to copy anything and everything W Cosmetics did, not to mention the drama with her cousins Aymeline and Anais. She was exhausted. And with this year’s Gala just ahead, Véronique intended to set things straight. W Cosmetics had a new spa line launching, and she picked up a gorgeous chocolate brown couture dress with a subtle W motif for the Gala and planned to connect with all her key PR and media contacts. On the evening of the Gala, her head was spinning as she got ready in her luxurious suite at the chic 5-star hotel, Henri 7, near the site of the Gala. She stepped out on to the balcony for a bit of fresh air. As she pushed open the chic French doors, the cool air enveloped her and gave her new resolve. She breathed in, content as she saw the sun setting across Paris’s stunning skyline. But her contentment only lasted a minute, as she became blinded by the rapid flashing of cameras in a rhythmic beat. Instinctively, Véronique grabbed her towelled head with one hand and clasped her robe closed with the other. But it was too late. The paparazzi had captured this not only intimate moment, but one where she was without a stitch of makeup or proper clothing! She texted Vanessa, Adéle, Eugenia and Eden…nobody had a great way to spin this disaster. But the ladies came to Véronique’s suite to help her with her finishing touches. She looked ravishing; her couture dress should have been the talk of the red carpet. But by the time Véronique posed in front of the step and repeat, the pictures of her from a few hours earlier were all over the internet and social media, and that was clearly going to be the focus. An interviewer stopped her.

“Véronique, the internet is abuzz and there’s one question everyone wants to know…”

Véronique was mortified. “Oh no, she thought to herself, what is it going to be?”

The interviewer continued, “How did you get your skin so flawless? You look amazing without any makeup.”

It hit her immediately. Without missing a beat, she responded, “It’s the new W Cosmetics Spa line, debuting next week!”

Immediately everyone was swarming her, trying to get hooked up with early samples from the line. No drama, just an impromptu PR opportunity dropped right into her lap. Véronique’s energy was renewed. She was excited for what was ahead… -Designed by Jessy Ayala

What a missed opportunity to get a “Faces of Veronique” gift set - with the 1.0, 12.5 and 2.0 sculpts showing her in various stages through the story line. And it has all the elements to be a proper tribute to the character that, along with Adèle, started the Fashion Royalty line. The gown look on the 1.0 doll (that has the FR body) is inspired by a magnificent gown by Charles James, the “Butterfly” (which also informs the lovely butterflies on the ribbon-tie shoes that come with it), but also draws a line from early Veronique dolls (Lush Life and Mauve Absolue) up to last year’s Toast To Us Adèle. Note the W shaped bust. And the 1.5 doll hearkens back to dolls like the Close Up Veronique and Evening Chill. Again a W is shaping the bustier. So why not include the 2.0 sculpt as well (even if just the head with the bust) and make it a proper, comprehensive tribute, and justify the $299 price tag?

Au Chocolat Véronique Perrin doll

Despite this, I am still pre-ordering this set. Both dolls look gorgeous, the gown is magnificent, the accessories are fantastic and the bathrobe and hair towel combined with diamonds look is playful, bringing to mind a fantastic photo shoot of Christy Turlington in exactly the same look as well as one with Karen Mulder, both early 90s.I also have a soft spot for the 1.5 Vero with the moulded hair, as she is quite similar to the New Versailles Veronique (wigged with moulded hair as all the four basic dolls were), from the 2006 Pompadour collection, which was the collection and year I started buying Fashion Royalty (20 years!). She’s the only basic doll I do not have from that entire collection.

The Story:

One thing that Agnes von Weiss had always excelled at was taking inspiration from (and credit for!) someone else’s ideas. Now that the AvW lifestyle brand was in full swing, her “inspirational” forces were running high. She had been vexed by the success of W Cosmetics’ Sirène campaign. So, when it was time for AvW to release its new cologne, Agnes came up with an “idea”… “I think we should do a mermaid!” Agnes exclaimed in the staff meeting. Lilith, who had been splitting her time between modeling and her ever-increasing influencer and PR job at AvW, kindly mentioned that W had recently done a mermaid campaign. Agnes cut her off. “Not a mermaid -- a mer-man!” Agnes said, making it seem like it was obvious she had thought of something completely different. Despite its origins, Lilith didn’t hate the idea. And she had the perfect model in mind -- her friend, Thiago Valente. Thiago was handsome and built; he had an appeal that reached both men and women. Plus, he would do anything if the price was right. And he never put up a fuss. He would be a great face for AvW! Then, she had another idea -- what if they packaged the cologne to look like a message in a bottle, just like the prop for the photoshoot? "You're a genius!" Agnes exclaimed. They made the photoshoot into a big spectacle near the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It drew all kinds of onlookers who stopped their day to catch a glimpse of this perfect merman. The crowds and the staff fawned over Thiago, who flirted back with literally everyone. The results were perfection. Thiago and the stunt created a big “splash” for AvW, with so much buzz brewing that he was starting to get mobbed everywhere he went. The campaign put AvW on a new level. And Thiago was now the season’s “it” guy. Agnes was thrilled. Lilith was thrilled. Agnes’s investors, including billionaire Alexandre Beaumont-Durand, were thrilled. There was one person who was not thrilled though -- Véronique Perrin. She called an emergency meeting of the W Cosmetics staff. First she had to deal with Missima’s underhanded dealings, now she had Agnes copying her every move, and getting even more glory! -Designed by Jessy Ayala

As I had mentioned when reviewing Violaine Sirène, mermaid dolls are not really my cup of tea. They look beautiful and fun, but I collect mainly high fashion dolls, and any “fantasy” dolls I own are quite adjacent to that realm. So cutie Thiago will not make a dent to my doll budget this time. Even his non-mermaid outfit is beach bum territory. His hairstyle limits his versatility to redress and restyle. So, once again, I am happy for those of you that were expecting such a doll but no, thanks.

Peace and Harmony Poppy Parker is the 3rd W Club exclusive doll for 2025

First of all, my best wishes for a happy, healthy and abundant 2026 to all readers! The beginning of the new year brings to W Club members the 3rd club exclusive made-to-order doll of the club year, and it is Poppy Parker: Peace ‘n Harmony. It is a doll inspired by and continuing the 2018 IFDC Poppy collection theme of hippy/boho fashion. It is great news for fans of that collection and a chance to own a Poppy in this style, as the IFDC dolls were a very limited release, exclusive to the attendees and the remaining portion available via lottery.

The new Poppy is very complimentary of the 2018 IFDC styles, with the addedd bonus that it is a proper gift set: it has three distinct outfits for Poppy, with many possibilities of combinations between the various items included. The one outfit that looks slightly off, but so did many looks of that era, is the granny-styled print top and long skirt look. The shape of the skirt looks frumpy (the words potato sack print were uttered during the presentation LOL) and the scale of the knit shawl results in an awkard (to say it gently) look for the doll. The rest of the clothes fare much better, with the standout being the patchwork mini skirt, which rightly caused David Buttry much enthusiasm during the presentation. The multitude of accessories help show off the clothes in a proper period way, along with those dreadful peace sign hands. As I have mentioned in previous related posts, this style is not a favourite of mine, so I will not be ordering the doll - but I am glad that club members get to have a great value gift set and a Poppy styled like older popular ones but not copying them. See the doll below in a rotating video:

The first W Club membership doll finally is here: Bohème" Eden Blair. Was she worth the wait?

The wait has been long for the official W Club membership exclusives to start appearing. Usually, the first one made her appearance by August at least. Not this year though - it took three more months to finally have her in our emails. Integrity Toys and designer Jessy Ayala give us "Bohème" Eden Blair, a gift set of a doll and two outfits. Lets see if she matches her sister from earlier this year.

The Story:

Véronique Perrin was normally calm, cool and collected, but these days she was frazzled. She was trying to take the family business to the next level, but it seemed as though there was someone stirring up trouble at every turn. While W Cosmetic’s Absinthe campaign with Elyse Jolie was a huge hit, her secret billionaire boyfriend’s presence at the show was a distraction. The rumors that Alexandre Beaumont-Durand, who was already invested in Agnes’s AvW venture, was also taking a stake in W was complete b.s., and Véronique was having to explain that over and over again to staff, vendors and retail partners. Now, Elyse was in a panic, as the tabloids had also linked Alex to Eden Blair, whom he was sitting next to at the show. Véronique Perrin texted her words of comfort.

I am certain that Eden is not involved with A.

Elyse was still suspicious.

Can you do some recon, please, and confirm?

Véronique sighed and agreed. “What am I, a private investigator now, too?” as she made her way down the hall to Eden’s office.

Eden had been a bit embarrassed but also a bit intrigued by the coverage. Of course, she didn’t know anything about Alex’s ties to Elyse, but she did know his reputation. He wasn’t really her type—but he was very handsome with his chiseled features, steely gaze and very fit body. “But really,” she thought to herself. “He’s too old. He’s too much of a player… But he is yummy...” Her stomach was aflutter as she thought about him and his cheeky smile. That feeling was quickly interrupted with an exasperated Véronique flying through Eden’s office door.

“Please tell me these headlines aren’t true?” Véronique pleaded, holding up a few papers. “This guy is already a pain in my backside…”

Eden jumped in. “Of course not! He just sat next to me thinking I was Lilith and the paparazzi just ran with it.”

“Thank goodness,” Véronique said, relieved. “Speaking of your sister, she’s a lovely girl, but please don’t take any of your work home with you where she might see. Agnes is already copying a bunch of our ideas—we don’t need her to get an early peek!”

Véronique was interrupted by an assistant at Eden’s door carrying a huge bouquet of flowers that was so ginormous it obscured her head and half her body. Eden’s eyes got huge. “Are these for me?” she asked, perplexed. Eden grabbed the attached card, which read:

I hope all that press wasn’t too much of a burden. Xo Alex

Véronique was not amused. “Who is that from?”

Eden turned around, her cheeks flushed a bright red.

Véronique slapped her forehead with her hand and sighed…

Yes, we are receiving news for the first of our five W Club exclusives really late this year. No official reason for this has been given. I will not speculate but it definitely does not look good for the club. We will be getting too many dolls into a short period of time and this, combined with the really expensive pricing, will be trouble for our wallets - that is, if we go ahead and order. Boho chic is not really a favourite fashion look for me. It smacks of cultural appropriation (mostly white ladies dressing up in items picked from various indigenous cultures from all over the world) and it is not really creative or practical for everyday life. It takes quite an effort to look like you did not throw on everything you found in both your grandmothers’ closets from their flower child years - and that’s the best case scenario. Nowadays, it usually looks more like BoBo (Bourgeois Bohemian), both US and French versions, which, again, to me are anathema.

Boheme_Eden_Blair_doll

So how about the doll? She’s bland, as most of the twins really are, with that generic, almost flat featureless face. It’s no accident that the best versions of them are the ones with more extreme make up and hair styles; they need them to look good. The outfit is (again) from the Chloé runway, this time the Fall/Winter 2025 collection. It is not an exact look, more like a combination of elements from various outfits of that collection, plus the now famous letter belt, here spelling out the doll’s name instead of the brand. The second outfit is a pair of patchwork jeans with a tank top. Pet peeve: sporting athletic underwear under a lace dress is a major faux pas in my books.Nice bag (Chloé of course).

You can see the doll rotating in the video below:

P. S. Despite the mention in the club email that they give members an extra-long pre-order window until November 10th, it is false advertising: we got the same days for our first W Club doll last year (10 days) and even more for the second one, later in the same month (12 days). So much for the extra long window. Also, Véronique is not behaving like a French lady at all in the story line. Her reaction to Eden’s affair is more US than French.

A Monogram gift set is coming to revive the line for Integrity Toys

It was expected since last year that Integrity Toys was reviving one of their discontinued lines. So it was not a big surprise when the company announced to W Club members that designer Chris Stoeckel was revisiting FR: Monogram: the line was up his alley, with its couture style and retro inspiration. The surprise was that the first release is an extravagant gift set available to all W Club members through pre-order. Even better? The price! How can IT release a doll with three outfits in a gorgeous box retailing at $199.00 but their simpler one outfit upgrades cost $175.00?

If the tariffs are higher at that time, the surcharge will likely be adjusted higher. I personally am very happy that the Monogram line gets a fresh start - I like their style and elegance and already have at least five in my collection.Chris is a good choice to design this and it shows in this gift set. We get three outfits with the doll, all in one gorgeous box that has the original line’s colouring and design. So Chris got the two outfits out of Dior by John Galliano’s Spring 2007 Haute Couture collection: The pink suit almost looking like the original, but simplified (that zig-zag collar cannot be made commercially for dolls) and the coat collar from one outfit (third in the line up below) added to another coat and dress outfit from the same collection (middle in the row below), again simplified for production.

Let’s not forget it is not the first time we get an outfit from this collection on an IT doll: Agnes was the first, way back in 2008 for the Dolls In Oz convention: (Agnes photo by me)

I love the outfits, the accessories, the doll with her couture extreme make up and gorgeous red hair. The handling of the tariff is weird - they should have just added a fixed amount in case that tariffs are still on when the doll arrives and scrap it if they are not. This would be more convenient for everyone involved and is already being done by other doll companies. Also, for us non -US citizens, it is flabbergasting that we have to pay a tariff that is imposed to USA imports. Make a distribution centre in EU or in China and ship to non USA people directly from there. Regarding the doll body brouhaha I saw on social media, let me just remind everyone that the original Monogram body is the Poppy Parker body with FR legs. So the only change is the FR legs being replace by Poppy high heeled ones. And Chris said, during the presentation, that the clothes (maybe not the lingerie) fit NU Face, albeit a bit snug.
