Fashion Fairytale: Integrity Toys 2017 Convention part 7 - final gala and convention doll

The final gala of the convention took place on Saturday evening, with everyone present. The table centerpiece was an Adèle Makéda doll, standing amidst a set of acrylic mountains and channeling the Snow Queen. Attendees also received the final component to complete the "Build-a-Giftset" Nadja Rhymes; a pink little dress.

The winners of the convention design competition were announced:

Diorama Design Competition:

People's Choice: Jeanette Howard

Judge's Choice: Kelly Rinaldi

Doll Design Challenge:

People's Choice: Dal Lowenbein

Judge's Choice: Dal Lowenbein

Congratulations to all winners! Unfortunately Dal’s doll will not go into production next year, even though it is a very imaginative take on the White Rabitt from Alice In Wonderland. The doll that will will be the one winning the international design competition through the W Club.

Then, the winners of the OOAK dolls designed by Integrity Toys design team for the raffle room were picked. The dolls, not all inspired from actual fairytales, were (photos by super talented Ginny Liezert):

IMG_3200.JPG

- #82097 Rayna Ahmadi Sirena (The Little Mermaid) designed by Jessy Ayala

IMG_3198.JPG

- Constance & Constance Wicked Duet (Cinderella Sisters) designed by Chris Stoeckel

- Misaki Just Right (Goldilocks) designed by Mark Tinkey

IMG_3199.JPG

- Agnes & Elise Feast For The Eyes (Lil Miss Muffet and the Spider from the nursery rhyme) designed by Vaughn Sawyers

IMG_3197.JPG

- Poppy Parker A Midsummer Dream (Titania, Shakespeare’s Queen Of Faery) designed by David Buttry

IMG_3201.JPG

- Nadja Bow Down (Queen of the Damned from the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles novel of the same name) designed by Jessy Ayala

IMG_3202.JPG

- AA Eugenia Sweet Pea (Princess and the pea) designed by Vaughn Sawyers

Most of these dolls were gorgeous, with the best being Nadja, giving off a strong Rihanna vibe. After that, the host city of next year's convention was unveiled, which will be Portland, Oregon, meaning the convention going west coast after many years.
Finally, special guest designer Jason Wu came on stage to unveil the eagerly awaited convention doll, Elyse Jolie channeling Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty.

A gorgeous silver haired Adèle as the Snow Queen! I would have preferred to have seen her as the Convention Doll though, it is about time that a company that prides itself on diversity in its product has an AA doll as the main star, no? From photos of attendees, her shoes are silver glittery sandals. A great doll. Of course the dress is similar to the one worn by Tilda Swinton as the White Witch in The Chronicles Of Narnia first film.

Yet another Elyse this year. I know the anniversary ones are really rare but it does seem too many anyway. This one looks like a mishmash of many things: we have seen a really similar gown in a previous convention Giselle. Her green eyes and fuchsia lips remind me of the workshop Elyse of years ago and her hair channels Midnight Star Elyse. The jewellery are similar to Versailles Veronique’s. All this plus the purple hair leaves me a bit cold, even though I love the sculpt. I still think Adèle should have been the convention doll, either as Maleficent or as the Snow Queen.

IMG_3184.JPG

Overall, for me, this was not a top notch convention dollwise, as was for example last year’s Supermodel one. I expected more imaginative interpretations of fairytale characters. The fact that most were derived from Disney versions of them only lessened the effect. Original fairytales make up a fantastic world that has a lot to offer and here we saw only a glimpse of them, with occasional flashes of great inspiration. It did not help of course that earlier in the year the company had showed such a strong group of collections on its main lines. Which is exactly the opposite of what happened last year. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Fashion Fairytale: Integrity Toys 2017 Convention part 6 - W Club luncheon

The last day of the Integrity Toys Convention means that it’s time for the W Club luncheon. The theme was Aladdin with two dolls presented: Rayna Ahmadi as Jasmine, the centerpiece that everyone had a chance to buy and Giselle as Aladdin, given as gift to all.

A very beautiful Rayna as Jasmine from Aladdin. I’m not fond of the colour of her jumpsuit but the doll is stunning. The opening of the décolleté is a bit too wide, most photos I saw from attendees showed nipples peeking out. she was sitting on a flying carpet stand that one could buy separately for $60.00. The outfit is from Balmain Spring 2018 collection:

Great idea to use Giselle as Aladdin but I would expect a more daring styling, especially considering her hairstyle, And would love to see shoes with upturned tips as they did make an appearance in European catwalks this month. Do you think she has them? Again the outfit is from Balmain Spring 2017 collection.

Fashion Fairytale: Integrity Toys 2017 Convention part 5 - the Poppy Parker luncheon

The second day of the Integrity Toys 2017 convention had more shopping but also workshops for attendees. After that, it was time for the annual Poppy Parker lunch, except this year, the theme of mix and match brands continued with Poppy channeling Little Red Riding Hood as the centerpiece and Eugenia Perrin-Frost as the hidden giveaway doll, this time channeling the Big Bad Wolf. Attendees also got part two of the "Build-a-Giftset" kit: a Nadja head and bust with "sleeping" closed eyes. They were also given the option to purchase a body upgrade kit so that they could have not one, but two complete Nadja dolls at the end of the convention. I am guessing that people that bought a Poppy luncheon ticket were expecting to get only Poppy dolls and not a Fashion Royalty gift and have to win the raffle to purchase a centerpiece Poppy. Let’s check out the dolls.

The Russian folklore touch, first glimpsed on the Alice Style Lab outfit is making another appearance here, much more fittingly in my opinion. I would have liked to see something more creative done with her hair - say making two braids that would coil on the sides of her head, or two pigtails. I also would have liked to see a more pronounced hood - after all, that’s how she got her name, right? I love her bag and will stress again that only Poppies got bags.

Fashion Fairytale: Integrity Toys Convention part 4 - the welcome gala and East 59th cocktail

Time to check out the first day of the convention, right? An Agnes Von Weiss doll was waiting for everyone at their table, sitting on a giant throne, dressed in a look inspired by the Evil Queen in Snow White. None other than Poppy Parker was the giveaway doll of the evening, in a Snow White inspired look. And everyone received a Nadja Rhymes doll, part one of the "Build-a-Giftset" box they had received at registration. It looks like she is the reincarnation of Sleeping Beauty. After the ballroom festivities ended, those who had purchased a ticket headed to the East 59th Afterhours Cocktail, featuring Evelyn and Constance as Cinderella and her wicked step-mother. Below are the dolls of the first day.

Best Fashion Royalty doll of the convention so far is this gorgeous Agnes. Perfectly reimagined as the Evil Queen from Snow White, she fits the role to a t. The hairstyle looks much better here than on Sea Devil Veronique and her face paint is amazing. But a Queen should have had more amazing jewellery than stud earrings and a simple chain choker. Pity that the two tiered hemline is the only way to see the purple colour of the underskirt.

A Dior Cinderella? Take my money! Fantastic doll, recreating the famous Junon and Venus gowns from Christian Dior. I guess it’s production issues that prohibit the dress to be completely embroidered (the price would probably skyrocket) so they went for a combination of the two gowns, but still she looks awesome. She is available to preorder, both to attendees but also to W Club members who did not go to the convention, with a slightly higher price. See the original Dior gowns below.  Junon is the French version of Juno or Hera, the goddess wife of Jupiter or Zeus. Her animal symbol was the peacock and Christian Dior tried to imitate the effect of its feathered tail with embroidery in an abstract way.

Fashion Fairytale: Integrity Toys 2017 Convention part 3 - Style Lab Collection The Industry goes to Wonderland

The Style Lab this year marks a major change. No more CI dolls but in their place, The Industry makes its first convention appearance and some Poppy Parker dolls are added to the mix. I wonder if the Poppies have The Industry body as well, which would be logical since they are part of this collection. The designs are inspired by Alice In Wonderland. As per usual, each doll in the Style Lab is sold nude and outfits are sold separately. Again the group as a whole is underwhelming, especially considering both the general theme but also Wonderland. Some of the fashions do rise above the rest but they are the exception that proves the rule. Pet peeve: why do they describe male dolls as figures? They are dolls, simple as that. Now, shall we go down the rabbit hole?

Integrity had done most of the popular fairytales in their Nu Face line, with Wonderland in IFDC 2010, with Dynamite Girl Gavin as Alice. This version of Alice is a bit darker but not goth enough. Maybe on a different doll? It does give off a Russian folk vibe.

There should have been something black instead of those red pants under the coat. A long slit skirt made of fishnet maybe? A mini skirt with a long fishnet overlay making a train in the back? Something suggesting a Queen anyway.
