Fashion Empress Tatyana Alexandrova is the doll wearing the winner of the 2024 Integrity Toys Design Competition

We finally get offered last year’s winner of the 2024 International Design Competition doll, showcasing the fashion based on Irina Koroleva's winning entry, "Fashion Empress". According to the rules of the competition, Irina's winning fashion design, voted on by 2024 W Club members, went through various adjustments to make it production ready while preserving the spirit of Irina's original creation, in collaboration with Integrity Toys Designer-in-residence Anj Calvo, who also spearheaded the doll design (the competition is only about the outfit and not the doll). So who is Irina Koroleva?

"My name is Irina, and I live in Belgrade, Serbia. I’ve been collecting Fashion Royalty dolls since April 2006. Although sewing and fashion design are not my profession, I’m passionate about creating couture clothes for dolls, which has been my primary hobby for a long time. It has been a while since we last saw Tatyana, no? I have some versions of her at home and this one initially seemed as one that had many enticing elements: dark hair/pale skin combination, red lips, short bob, extravagant evening gown. The final result though is a bit overwhelming - we get a very severe looking doll (the slicked back hair don’t help), wearing a dress that has a mythological goddess as an inspiration (according to the designer), but it combines so many things one on top of the other, ending up overwhelming me.It tries to keep too fine a balance between fashion and fantasy, ending up as neither and thus losing its spark. When you veer into fantasy fashion territory, it helps going all out to deliver the message. It looks good but not “buy me” good, especially with lots of pre-orders pending. Plus we still have not yet seen four of our five club dolls. Details I love: the blood red used everywhere, the feather shrug (imagine a cape like this) and the jewellery. That collar should have had double the height to look really impressive on her. Nouveau Régime Tatyana has nothing to fear, she’s still my number one Tati by far. Must also mention that this Tatyana reminds me a lot of Once Upon A Time’s Evil Queen Lana Parilla. I also thought the surname of the doll was Alexandrovna…

The Story:

Elyse Jolie had always been a private person, but she was having a difficult time keeping it that way of late. Only Adèle knew that she had been dating billionaire playboy, Alexandre Beaumont-Durand, who finally announced his separation from his wife of several years, which only made the paparazzi hound him harder for a scoop on whom he might be dating. Well, Véronique and Eugenia also knew, because Adèle had to fill them in once Elyse agreed to be the face of a new makeup campaign that W was producing. Elyse was even going to walk the runway. “What have I done?!” Elyse wondered. The runway was far away from her formerly private life running her family’s finishing school. She knew once she became a model, she would be in the public eye every day. Now, as her name had surfaced as Alex’s possible new love interest, she was worried about even more attention!

Elyse begged Alex not to attend the upcoming runway show, where she was walking in a collab between W Cosmetics and Jason Wu’s haute couture line in Paris. But trying to get an uber-successful man like Alex to do- or not do- something was not an easy task. Making matters worse, Alex was an investor in W Cosmetics’ rival AvW by Agnes von Weiss. “Please, mon chère,” she begged. “I don’t need the cameras and the headlines. I don’t want to steal attention away from the W Cosmetics team.” “You are so beautiful when you worry about nothing,” Alex gushed, brushing off Elyse’s concerns and taking her face in his hands while he kissed her deeply. She knew he would do whatever he wanted.

The day of the show, Elyse was backstage, having her hair and makeup expertly done by the W Cosmetics team, where she would be showing off a new line called “Absinthe”. As she was set to close the show, before she moved from hair and makeup to wardrobe, she couldn’t help but peek into the audience. She spotted Alex in the crowd, chatting up someone. She couldn’t make out who it was, because, as she worried, cameras were going off all around him. When Alex had arrived at the show, he had noticed a familiar face in the audience, so he made his way to sit next to her. “What are you doing here, beautiful?” he asked, sliding into his chair. The young woman looked at him blankly and then laughed. “You must think I am Lilith!” Eden said. Alexandre looked confused but then joined the laughter as Eden explained that she and Lilith were identical twins. He told her how he was an investor in AvW and had met Lilith and become better acquainted in recent months. Their discussion was cut short by no less than five men with cameras and a handful of autograph seekers.

The show was about to begin. Elyse paced backstage, trying to be supportive of the other girls as they made their way down the runway. Finally, it was her turn. Elyse drew in her breath as she did her signature glide down the runway. She was effortless and looked like she was floating on air. Her beautiful updo showed off her cheekbones and the stunning Absinthe W Cosmetics palette. As she got to the end of the runway for her signature pirouette-inspired turn, she saw Alex and then saw Lilith next to him. Or was it Eden? It was always so hard to tell. She tried not to get distracted so she could do her job.

The show was a rousing success. However, Alex’s presence did cause a stir in the press. First was the rumor that he was in the audience to expand his portfolio and make an investment in AvW’s rival, W Cosmetics. Second was a bunch of photos and salacious headlines speculating that they had uncovered Alex’s new lover—and naming her as… Eden Blair.

We definitely did not need another Jason Wu doll this time of the year, and especially this one. She is similar to Bergdorf Goodman Elyse - she’s the Zara Version. And the dress is not as long and as fluid as the real one. The accessories have been done before in other colours and the pouch for the bag is not a saving grace - far from it. It’s mainly something for the first time members of the club - so good luck to all who enter.

What a beautiful Adele to finish the club year! She looks fantastic. Wearing a colour variant of a F/W 2024/25 Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown , she is radiant and elegant. Her screening and hairstyle do bring to mind most recent Adele dolls, but the combination looks quite different as to warrant a yes from me. The gown has been released from JamieShow Dolls as well as an outfit only edition, and in the original colour, but is quite different in the construction style of the bodice. The bow bit is removable - it remains to be seen if it can be also worn as a shawl. She also has a veil, a shopping bag and a shoe box (they have begun to pop up often lately, no?). We get two pairs of shoes and a flat feet set as well, plus those champagne flutes with the removable liquid imitation, She also has the gala invitation (in an envelope no less), a 2002 FR dealer catalogue and a W Cosmetics makeup compact with mirror. Plus of course her nice jewellery suite.

Several years back, Poppy Parker's special guest star appearance on the hit British TV series "Misty Hollows" made such a strong impression that when the network decided to make an American spin-off version of the series set in New Orleans called "Return To Misty Hollows", the name that came to mind to play the lead was of course, none other than Miss Poppy Parker! Her sweet disposition and youthful beauty made her the perfect choice to play the "Is she or isn't she?" vampire-next-door character, a fan favorite of the whole series! - Designed by David Buttry

I know people, particularly newer collectors, love having newer versions of older dolls, but it has started to get repetitive and, frankly, quite boring. If you do not have fresh ideas as a creative, maybe take a break and re-focus. Integrity is inching closer to Mattel territory, and it is not good for anyone, except maybe the owner’s wallet. And that is not a good thing for anyone in the long term. Even if one simply opens a fashion catalogue from the 60s and randomly selects a page, they can find an outfit that has not been done yet for this doll. Not to mention Vogue magazines from the era. So please, rethink this strategy IT.

Somehow it does not look as majestic or romantic in its doll version, as it does in the original one. I think that if we got the second iteration, without the frills, it would have looked much better - but it would not be reminiscent of Misty Hollows. Which connects to my previous comments. The second outfit has a gorgeous blouse but I cannot say I am a fan of the overalls. Maybe she should have had some torreador pants, which would channel the dress embroidery. The boots are great, the bag is generic, nice choker and mirror. I love that the doll is the opposite of the Misty Hollows Poppy in colouring, but I would have preferred her with brown eyes and less garish make up.

I always love a Zuri doll with the tooth gap showing and this one is no exception. But the shape of her eyeshadow looks a bit weird, especially with that colour. Her dress colour on the other hand is gorgeous and reminds me of Korinne Dumas’ one some years ago. People find the $165 price high for what is on offer but remember that the line’s price is $175 since last year, so the -$10 to me looks just about right. She has an evening dress and a full accessory set with it (intricate Gucci bag included). Also remember that Meteor dolls have a smaller fan base and sell well below other lines, so even the made-to-order dolls will not be reaching the levels of say Poppy or Nu Gace ladies. Smaller edition means more expensive to make, so the price also reflects that. The overall pricing of IT is high as it is, which is a matter for another discussion altogether. I do not have a Zuri with this hairstyle, so I’m on the fence about her.

When tasked with crafting the perfect signature cocktails to match the significance and spirit of the farewell gala, mixologist extraordinaire Navia Phan more than rose to the occasion—she nailed it. Her creation, a bittersweet masterpiece named “Meteor Rising,” captured the essence of the night: a tribute to the Meteor’s original home, while toasting to the exciting future ahead. The drink quickly became the star of the evening, with every guest savoring its rich complexity as they celebrated in style.

But when Navia took center stage to lead the club in a heartfelt farewell toast, she couldn’t help but smile at the attention she was getting. Was it her show-stopping, seductive dress or her unforgettable cocktail that had everyone buzzing? Perhaps it was a little bit of both. - Designed by Vaughn Sawyers

One thing I have to remark upon is that we already got a Navia and a Zuri this year, through the Jason Kramer collaboration. So it would have been nice if we had two different characters released by Vaugh, say Keeki and Amirah, who are, with Zuri, from the original line-up. Having said that, we get another beautifully done Navia - though I still cannot fully like this sculpt, especially the way her features look too small for the size of her head. The red (again) dress is probably “inspired” by LaQuan Smith (same as Nadja’s StyleLab jumpsuit).
