As much as I love the idea of having a lesbian couple officially released by IT to honour Pride Month, this set looks luckluster and too tame, especially compared with the Love Is Love set years ago. And as we are talking about fashion dolls, I would have loved them to be more in tune with current fashion and style. There are some beautiful items among the clothing and accessories (e.g. the bags), but it is not my cup of tea at all. The dolls do look beautiful though and that is a major plus. Ellery’s sculpt was never a favourite but she looks lovely here. Reese seems to use the former Dree Hill sculpt from Color Infusion (without painted teeth). Also, we did not get a video presentation for this one, which is a bummer. I would have liked to listen to the two designers explain the concept and their inspiration in detail.

I always wanted to get the original Avenue George V Victoire (and cannot remember what happened with the lottery back then) and now I get a chance. She is not an exact copy but comes really close to the original doll, so it is indeed a great opportunity for Victoire fans to get their hands on her - and the original sculpt making an appearance too! GMColl Studio released their first ever made-to-order doll: Celebration Allegra Orsini

GMColl Studio is the project of two very talented and creative people: Gloria and Bertan. Gloria is well know in the fashion doll world with her OOAK briliant work and she teamed up with Bertan to create and run GMColl Studio, a new line of fashion dolls that had already caused quite a commotion as limited run offers of only heads and fashion sets before the label launched. It now has a member club and the members get first dibs at new releases. I was lucky to become a member and now I got the chance to preorder their first made-to-order release (the previous releases so far were lottery dolls for which I did not participate): Celebration Allegra Orsini.

THE STORY

As Allegra stepped onto the red carpet of the agency’s opening celebration, the flashing lights suddenly pulled her back — To the day she shot Faces of Today with the girls. Just as she was about to leave the studio, a quiet commotion turned her attention. Standing there—commanding, unmistakable—was Davinia Orsini. A legend. The head of the Orsini family. The force behind a fashion empire. “I’ve been thinking about starting a modeling agency,” Davinia said, her voice calm yet electric. “I heard you were shooting today… I wanted to see my baby—and the girls—for myself.” Then, with a smile full of certainty: “You were absolutely wonderful, cuore mio. I think it’s time to make this real. You girls are going to become the talk of everyone. It’s time to bring the era of supermodels back to the present.” The sound of cameras snapped Allegra back to now. And in that moment, she understood — The Faces of Today are destined to shape the agency of tomorrow.*

As I mentioned in the first paragraph, I waited a bit to get my first GMColl Studio doll. It is not that the previous members-only releases were not beautiful, it is just that they were not to my taste exactly. So I bid my time and here she is. She’s a new sculpt for Allegra (the original, a gorgeous Donatella lookalike is this one), which does not mean that the old one is retired. I will risk a guess and say that the old one might be used as her mother, as it looks more mature and chiselled than this new iteration. She has a lovely neutral screening, beautiful brunette hair and she looks fab. Her gown follows her screening colour scheme and it looks nice without it being a revelation - I do notice the zipper (good) is a bit large for the scale (bad). Her matching shoes have bows at the back and I love it. Her bag is made of the same material as the dress, so it is a total monochromatic look. And the price is amazing. Cannot wait to receive her!

The fifth and final 2025 W Club exclusive membership doll is a two-doll gift set: Au Chocolat Veronique Perrin

On the eve of Valentine’s Day, we got the the fifth and final W Club Exclusive doll of the 2025 membership year, through a live presentation for members. The Story:

It has been quite a year for Véronique-- starting with the Anniversary Gala and Adéle’s run in with Agnes, triumphantly getting Elyse on the runway only to have the nonsense with Alexandre Beaumont-Durand-- and Eden. Then there were Agnes’s attempts to copy anything and everything W Cosmetics did, not to mention the drama with her cousins Aymeline and Anais. She was exhausted. And with this year’s Gala just ahead, Véronique intended to set things straight. W Cosmetics had a new spa line launching, and she picked up a gorgeous chocolate brown couture dress with a subtle W motif for the Gala and planned to connect with all her key PR and media contacts. On the evening of the Gala, her head was spinning as she got ready in her luxurious suite at the chic 5-star hotel, Henri 7, near the site of the Gala. She stepped out on to the balcony for a bit of fresh air. As she pushed open the chic French doors, the cool air enveloped her and gave her new resolve. She breathed in, content as she saw the sun setting across Paris’s stunning skyline. But her contentment only lasted a minute, as she became blinded by the rapid flashing of cameras in a rhythmic beat. Instinctively, Véronique grabbed her towelled head with one hand and clasped her robe closed with the other. But it was too late. The paparazzi had captured this not only intimate moment, but one where she was without a stitch of makeup or proper clothing! She texted Vanessa, Adéle, Eugenia and Eden…nobody had a great way to spin this disaster. But the ladies came to Véronique’s suite to help her with her finishing touches. She looked ravishing; her couture dress should have been the talk of the red carpet. But by the time Véronique posed in front of the step and repeat, the pictures of her from a few hours earlier were all over the internet and social media, and that was clearly going to be the focus. An interviewer stopped her.

What a missed opportunity to get a “Faces of Veronique” gift set - with the 1.0, 12.5 and 2.0 sculpts showing her in various stages through the story line. And it has all the elements to be a proper tribute to the character that, along with Adèle, started the Fashion Royalty line. The gown look on the 1.0 doll (that has the FR body) is inspired by a magnificent gown by Charles James, the “Butterfly” (which also informs the lovely butterflies on the ribbon-tie shoes that come with it), but also draws a line from early Veronique dolls (Lush Life and Mauve Absolue) up to last year’s Toast To Us Adèle. Note the W shaped bust. And the 1.5 doll hearkens back to dolls like the Close Up Veronique and Evening Chill. Again a W is shaping the bustier. So why not include the 2.0 sculpt as well (even if just the head with the bust) and make it a proper, comprehensive tribute, and justify the $299 price tag?

Despite this, I am still pre-ordering this set. Both dolls look gorgeous, the gown is magnificent, the accessories are fantastic and the bathrobe and hair towel combined with diamonds look is playful, bringing to mind a fantastic photo shoot of Christy Turlington in exactly the same look as well as one with Karen Mulder, both early 90s.I also have a soft spot for the 1.5 Vero with the moulded hair, as she is quite similar to the New Versailles Veronique (wigged with moulded hair as all the four basic dolls were), from the 2006 Pompadour collection, which was the collection and year I started buying Fashion Royalty (20 years!). She’s the only basic doll I do not have from that entire collection.

We thought we were getting one Jason Wu Club 20th Anniversary doll this year but, no, we just discovered we are actually getting another one (and a Poppy to come). He blended collector-favorite past Fashion Royalty couture (in Optic Verve and Optic Clash), marrying it with an inspirational gown that Wu had conceptualized for a famous celebrity. He chose Nadja as the perfect representative model, using custom fabric made for his own adult-sized couture fashions to complete the look. The result, another gorgeous, celebratory creation available to all W Club members to order as a special bonus!

Jason said that this, contrary to his dolls always wearing miniature versions of his dresses, is inspired by a Fashion Royalty holy grail doll: Optic Verve Agnes Von Weiss. But there is a thread connecting this to his real-life dresses: the fabric is a scaled down version of the one used on a gown from his Fall/Winter 2024 collection (seen on the left below) and later worn by Eiza González on the premiere of her film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare in April 2024 (seen on the right below).

The fabric is metallic and has a martelé texture (hammered metal) that is quite difficult to translate to doll scale - you can see it better on the train of the dress in the photo of the doll’s back. They had to go to the factory that made the fabric for Jason originally, to recreate it in doll scale. She is literally dripping with gold - her hands are chrome gloves, she has a coordinating clutch (with martelé texture too), the earrings are a new design that looks organic (they are slightly different from each other) and the necklace is a remake of the one Optic Verve Agnes was wearing. Nadja’s face could have used a bit more intense lip colour to pop. The price is a bit lower than the usual Jason Wu Collection dolls come with, but the extra tariff charge makes it the same.
