The first W Club membership doll finally is here: Bohème" Eden Blair. Was she worth the wait?

The wait has been long for the official W Club membership exclusives to start appearing. Usually, the first one made her appearance by August at least. Not this year though - it took three more months to finally have her in our emails. Integrity Toys and designer Jessy Ayala give us "Bohème" Eden Blair, a gift set of a doll and two outfits. Lets see if she matches her sister from earlier this year.

The Story:

Véronique Perrin was normally calm, cool and collected, but these days she was frazzled. She was trying to take the family business to the next level, but it seemed as though there was someone stirring up trouble at every turn. While W Cosmetic’s Absinthe campaign with Elyse Jolie was a huge hit, her secret billionaire boyfriend’s presence at the show was a distraction. The rumors that Alexandre Beaumont-Durand, who was already invested in Agnes’s AvW venture, was also taking a stake in W was complete b.s., and Véronique was having to explain that over and over again to staff, vendors and retail partners. Now, Elyse was in a panic, as the tabloids had also linked Alex to Eden Blair, whom he was sitting next to at the show. Véronique Perrin texted her words of comfort.

I am certain that Eden is not involved with A.

Elyse was still suspicious.

Can you do some recon, please, and confirm?

Véronique sighed and agreed. “What am I, a private investigator now, too?” as she made her way down the hall to Eden’s office.

Eden had been a bit embarrassed but also a bit intrigued by the coverage. Of course, she didn’t know anything about Alex’s ties to Elyse, but she did know his reputation. He wasn’t really her type—but he was very handsome with his chiseled features, steely gaze and very fit body. “But really,” she thought to herself. “He’s too old. He’s too much of a player… But he is yummy...” Her stomach was aflutter as she thought about him and his cheeky smile. That feeling was quickly interrupted with an exasperated Véronique flying through Eden’s office door.

“Please tell me these headlines aren’t true?” Véronique pleaded, holding up a few papers. “This guy is already a pain in my backside…”

Eden jumped in. “Of course not! He just sat next to me thinking I was Lilith and the paparazzi just ran with it.”

“Thank goodness,” Véronique said, relieved. “Speaking of your sister, she’s a lovely girl, but please don’t take any of your work home with you where she might see. Agnes is already copying a bunch of our ideas—we don’t need her to get an early peek!”

Véronique was interrupted by an assistant at Eden’s door carrying a huge bouquet of flowers that was so ginormous it obscured her head and half her body. Eden’s eyes got huge. “Are these for me?” she asked, perplexed. Eden grabbed the attached card, which read:

I hope all that press wasn’t too much of a burden. Xo Alex

Véronique was not amused. “Who is that from?”

Eden turned around, her cheeks flushed a bright red.

Véronique slapped her forehead with her hand and sighed…

Yes, we are receiving news for the first of our five W Club exclusives really late this year. No official reason for this has been given. I will not speculate but it definitely does not look good for the club. We will be getting too many dolls into a short period of time and this, combined with the really expensive pricing, will be trouble for our wallets - that is, if we go ahead and order. Boho chic is not really a favourite fashion look for me. It smacks of cultural appropriation (mostly white ladies dressing up in items picked from various indigenous cultures from all over the world) and it is not really creative or practical for everyday life. It takes quite an effort to look like you did not throw on everything you found in both your grandmothers’ closets from their flower child years - and that’s the best case scenario. Nowadays, it usually looks more like BoBo (Bourgeois Bohemian), both US and French versions, which, again, to me are anathema.

Boheme_Eden_Blair_doll

So how about the doll? She’s bland, as most of the twins really are, with that generic, almost flat featureless face. It’s no accident that the best versions of them are the ones with more extreme make up and hair styles; they need them to look good. The outfit is (again) from the Chloé runway, this time the Fall/Winter 2025 collection. It is not an exact look, more like a combination of elements from various outfits of that collection, plus the now famous letter belt, here spelling out the doll’s name instead of the brand. The second outfit is a pair of patchwork jeans with a tank top. Pet peeve: sporting athletic underwear under a lace dress is a major faux pas in my books.Nice bag (Chloé of course).

You can see the doll rotating in the video below:

P. S. Despite the mention in the club email that they give members an extra-long pre-order window until November 10th, it is false advertising: we got the same days for our first W Club doll last year (10 days) and even more for the second one, later in the same month (12 days). So much for the extra long window. Also, Véronique is not behaving like a French lady at all in the story line. Her reaction to Eden’s affair is more US than French.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Prototypes shown, the final product may vary. Background and props are not included. This collectible is meant for adult collectors ages 15 and up only.

Integrity Toys Mini Capsule Collections 2020 reveal pt..1: The Monarchs - Atmoshpere

This weekend we got the reveal of four mini capsule collections by Integrity Toys. Carol explained that with the pandemic affecting production, and despite the 25th IT anniversary occasion, they would not be able to release full blown collections for the lines. We saw two dolls unveiled for each of the lines that were featured into the livestreamed presentation (through Youtube - will that be how the convention goes?). The Monarchs line was first, with Vaughn showing us the dolls on video too, which is always nice. Participants could comment in real time, which was nice. Alain, who was managing the whole affair backstage (poor guy - sending hugs) was flashing some of the comments on screen as well.

Indian_male_doll_twins_Tajinder_Dalpinter_21009_21010_Monarchs.png

Technically we got one Monarch, and an older sculpt repurposed at that. Callum now is reincarnated as Indian twins, Tajinder and Dalpinder. If I’m not mistaken it is the first time we get Indian male dolls through IT - this s great and about time! I would be getting Taj but budget constraints meant no. I still laugh seeing the “figures” instead of dolls description. It is dolls dear Integrity, no matter what. Stop doing this.

That’s a gorgeous doll! I love how the Callum sculpt translates into Tajinder. it was about time we got some Indian Bolywood guys to co-star with Isha in her blockbusters. Although the storyline does hint that the twins might be after a guy in the film and not necessarily a lady! We will see… Everything looks great about Tajinder - both doll and outfit. I must say I’m a bit disappointed that we did not see one of the old guys. like Pierre and Francisco, return. I bet they would sell out instantly. As always, the accessories are gorgeous. BUT we don’t get a bag while the price is still the (way too high) same. How come?

I like tis one less - both doll and fashion as not as gorgeous as the other twin. The safari jacket should have been longer and with a belt. His drawstring hemmed pants do not look good at the ankles. His gladiator sandals are gorgeous though. Again no bag for the US$175.00 price.. The hat: is thankfully made of.felt, which is expected with this price point.

A pastel concoction: the 4th W Club doll, Mademoiselle Eden

The fourth W Club exclusive doll was revealed yesterday to members, a frothy pastel concoction designed by Jessy Ayala, taking most of its elements from Versace. The doll was enthusiastically welcomed by most members. Let’s take a look at her.

IMG_1571.png

Soooooo… I LIKE HER! Which is kind of weird, considering that pastels are not my forte. Or the Blair twins in general. But the styling is great here. My first reaction seeing the photos was “Versace!”. It brought to mind many things from various periods, but mostly the Spring 1992 collection,

IMG_1585.jpeg

It was one of his most successful and popular collections, one that Donatella mines to death in her latest releases. It’s iconic for the brand and it has been copied by everyone. The shoes are more recent though, even if inspired by older designs: Fall 2018, in various colours. I bet they will be hell to put on the doll.

IMG_1601.jpeg

Even though the general style was reminiscent of Versace, the actual dress was not to be found in his collections. But then my friend Makis came to the rescue: it is a Saint Laurent dress, shown below as sold by Barneys NY.

Makis correctly commented that the bows pop in the real dress, while they are part of the structure in the doll version. I’m guessing cost is the main reason for the difference. Plus the doll dress has pockets!

IMG_1572.png

For a more Rococo style, I’d rather have some ringlets added to her hairstyle, on the sides and the back. Which I guess can be done to the existing hair. She’ll be a modern French court lady at Versailles!

IMG_1573.png

Did you notice that her SKU number has the letter A at the end? That means there’s a variation with her twin, Lilith, coming soon. Will it be a lottery? Part of Dolly Days? I’m guessing we will discover it soon enough.

Integrity Toys Luxe Life 2018 Convention: the W Club luncheon

Saturday always begins with the W Club luncheon. Club members got to see the Lilith Blair centerpiece doll (and many the chance to buy her) and received her twin sister Eden Blair doll, both designed by Jessy Ayala.
Carol Roth hosted a Q & A panel on stage with the Integrity Toys design team, where Club members' questions were answered.

First W Club doll for 2018 is unveiled - and it’s twins!

The W Club year officially begun in March for 2018, so everything has been coming out later than usual. That includes the W Club dolls, exclusively made for its members, a total of five for the year. The first one was teased a few days ago to members, then was revealed to be the Nu Face twins, Lilith and Eden. They are designed, like the main Nu Face line, by Jessy Ayala, with a press/newsprint theme. I’m not that crazy about them. The fashions look half done and the doll’s are ok but don’t scream “buy me” to me. They are quite different in style both to the Nu Face main line and the upgrade Rayna, which is weird but not really a problem. Don’t ask dealers, these are W Club exclusives, so if you’re not a member, wait till they start arriving early next year to get them on the secondary market. They are not a giftset but sold individually, so any member can buy either one or both twins. At $135.00 per doll, that’s $270 for both, quite a jump from the $200.00 that last year’s twin set (see what I did there?), which was more elaborate, cost.

Lilith is easily the better of the twins, with her dark hair, pale skin and red lips. If her eye make up was more interesting, I might have caved in. I already have Rock Wedding Lilith and Smoke And Mirrors Lilith, so this one barely compares.
