The Integrity Toys 2025 Online Event: Le Cirque Cabaret - The Specialty Tents

Moving towards the end of the Integrity Toys 2025 Online Event, Le Cirque Cabaret, we had another workshop, this time with the awesome and talented Jason Kramer, who showed us how to make a fantasy cape in two different sizes - W Club members have gotten the patterns for this already. Alain Trembley also showed us how the Clairvoyante booth was made and how to make our own - again, we got the pattern for that as club members. But he did not just do that - he unveiled a doll he designed for the event and presented it to us, with Jason helping along - and it is probably the best doll of the event. Later on, we had a Q&A with the Integrity Toys design team, coordinated by Carol Roth of W Club. We got a change to see the designers in residence, Pamela Thompson and Anj Calvo, along with the known named of the team, Alain, David, Jessy and Chris. They answered to all sorts of questions from club members (that had been sent in advance before the day of the event) and some questions from people watching the live session. After that, we got to see the final presentation of the day, which included two dolls. And just like that, it was time for the event to end. Overall impressions: coherent, fun, well set up and thought out. My only major gripe with it was the use of AI to make animated videos for the presentations. It marred an otherwise outstanding online event, which should be the guide for any future one like it. If you do not know why using AI is bad - for the environment, for creatives and for your wallet - please go to any search engine and educate yourself. It is not the scope of this website to do it.

Wow! Again, this is for me the best doll of the event. Rashad, who used to be Kyle Spencer (Evan Peters) from the AHS Coven collection, before becoming a Monarch as Rashad. In just his second appearance as this character, he knocks it out of the park - or better, Alain Trembley does, who designed this doll and just became the MVP of the event. Apart from being a gorgeous hunk of a doll (fake septum moustache notwithstanding), he’s dressed in an outfit that gives at least four options: 1) full outfit on (jacket, pants, boots, fur capelet etc.): a modern version of a hussar - the jacket is a minimal version of the dolman the hussards wore, and the capelet is the pelisse. I have been waiting for a great jacket like this (that does not look cartoon-y like Riot from Jem) forever and still need a military hat for it, 2) fur capelet over mesh shirt and pants - your average fantasy firebreather, 3) jacket over mesh shirt (or any other shirt) - a military look man and 4) mesh shirt with harness and leather straps, your average gay biker - see Pillion for details. It’s quite a coincidence I had already watched that film earlier in the day at our TIFF - then out comes this guy and boom! Alain, you’re a genius! His boots and pants are also awesome and I love how it seems they solved the pleather issue by using something that looks like it but is actually a treated fabric. The only thing marring a bit the overall look (again, apart from the fake septum moustache) is the shape of the fire on the sticks - sorry but that does not look like fire at all. Put it in a tall beer glass (like the ones used for weissbeer) and be done with it. He comes with a ticket booth (same style as Rayna’s booth) which is nice. A must for pre-order.

What a lovely Poppy! She looks like what Mattel could have done with the Glinda doll if they had sculpted Ariana Grande without that silly expression. She comes with a new screening, which suits her best and the hairstyle is almost like the classic Barbie ponytail. Her shoes have that heel-less sole instead of a heel, to mimic pointe shoes. Which we have seen from Saint Laurent back in 2017. The dress is cute and nicely embroidered, and she comes with a nice acrobat stand to perch on. Cannot help myself thinking about this gorgeous Bob Mackie Barbie. I might have entered the lottery for her but too many things are adding up and the budget is limited.

Agnes closed off the event’s festivities, as is rightfully her role as an event designated doll. This colour is becoming a signature for her, as we have previously seen her in Truly, Madly, Deeply and Sensational Soirée Her hairstyle and hair colour remind me of High Visibility Agnes. I love her make up, it’s not often we see this chartreuse green used on eyes - and it goes well with those pale lips. The gown is lifted from this Schiaparelli Haute Couture Fall 2024 one, adapted for doll size of course, and with the long train echoing the snakes she’s charming. I might try to add the snake necklace from Red Blooded Woman Kyori Sato if i get her. She kind of looks like a Roman era noble woman in the photo showing her from the back. Her accessories are all amazing. And she’s made to order.

TEDDY VONRANSON X Integrity Toys is a new collaboration for this year's Monarch collection!

Another long awaited collection from Integrity Toys was the Monarchs. Lots of collectors kept asking about new guy dolls (IT should stop using the term fashion figure, no one but them is using it, stop beating a dead horse - it was stillborn). As they unveiled the new presentation (which had to restart a couple of times due to glitches), W Club members discovered a new capsule collection, created exclusively by menswear designer Teddy von Ranson for the TEDDY VONRANSON X Integrity Toys Collaboration. It consists of four dolls, three guys and a lady (a first for Monarchs), and all dolls are sold via lottery to the W Club.

So who is Teddy Von Ranson? I had never heard of him before this presentation. Here is what Integrity tells us about him:

Teddy von Ranson is known for dressing men of style, from fashionistas to celebrities, for the red carpet, TV, stage and every day, including Austin Butler, Usher, Travis Kelce, Sebastian Stan, Ethan Hawke and Lewis Hamilton, among others.

Born in Canada and nurtured in an environment steeped in cultural sophistication, Teddy’s aesthetic sensibilities were further honed in California, at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. Yet, it was New York City that truly became the crucible for his creative vision. Ascending to the role of lead designer at Ralph Lauren, and later, steering the helm as Creative Director at the Frye Group, Teddy’s career arc exemplifies an extraordinary blend of innovation and tradition.

The recognition of his work by the fashion industry, including an interim membership in the CFDA, the FGI Rising Star Award, and a nomination for American Menswear Designer of the Year, underscores the impact of his vision. The invitation to debut at Piti Uomo’s Special Projects in Florence is not just a personal milestone but a moment of validation for American fashion itself. In the designs of Teddy von Ranson, American fashion finds its voice, one that speaks to a world looking for authenticity in an age of transient trends.

I’m very into fashion and try to stay ahead of trends and styles and new talent in the field and I have not stumbled upon the name Teddy Von Ransom ever. His brand is not even in the Vogue Runway designers list (which can feature you for a fee). Seeing his sketches and human clothing photos (models and celebrities) before the doll reveal, I can see nice clothing but very conservative in style and materials. It is quite american and I can see the RL influence up to a point. While I like most of what you will see below (and entered the lottery for two dolls), I do think that this is not the ideal direction we need for the Monarchs - instead we should have seen something closer to what Pyer Moss, Willie Chavarria, Haider Ackermann or Antony Vaccarello do with menswear. I am not saying they could get a collaboration of that caliber - just that there are so many designers (female and male) of colour that could give more fashion to the mix. We have seen similar stuff during the first years of the Hommes collections. But that was 21 years ago. And when a white guy tells you that freckles is diversity, something is very wrong.

The Story:

In the coolest corner of Manhattan, Darius Reid makes music perfectly in tune with NYC’s energy. His studio was a place that embodied both beats and affairs of the heart. That’s where he first noticed high-powered executive Jaeme Costas. There was a magnetic tension every time they met- her intellect meeting his soulful depth. Darius couldn’t help but think that while they were on the same frequency, they might be tuned differently.

Darius always admired the way Jaeme commanded rooms with a mix of authority and grace. But beneath his confident exterior, he wondered if she saw him as anything more than a creative escape from the pressures of her world. Their conversations were always filled with possibility, but they never crossed the line.

The only coloured doll in the collection (should we be grateful we got at least one?), Darius hits the ball out of the park right away. His outfit brings to mind a combination of Pier De Vries Thrill Seeker and Rock Ringmaster Lukas Maverick. What Von Ranson does really well is combine textures and details on the outfits. And that face... Using eyelashes on male dolls was always a no-brainer for me (men can have thicker and longer eyelashes than many women using mascara), and here it shows how great it looks. I entered for him right away. I must say that having the whole collection in shades of brown (with one exception in charcoal) is not to my liking that much, but it works and makes it more cohesive if also more conservative. He’s also the only guy without a pair of glasses. Why?

The Story:

Auden Adler's empire was built in Brooklyn with precision as sharp his tailored suits. When Jaeme Costas reentered his life, it was like the stock market opening after a long night... Full of promise but totally unpredictable. He wasn’t used to uncertainty and there was something in Jaeme's intensity that intrigued him, but escaped his control.

Their "situationship" was a whirlwind of dinners beneath the city lights, deals made over expensive whiskey, and stolen moments between boardrooms. I love most Auden versions and this one is no exception, but for quite a particular reason: he looks so much like Tom Sturridge playing Sandman on Netflix. People who know me know that The Sandman is my all time favourite comic. I also bought, ages ago, a Japanese blank doll with blue hair to turn into Sandman (but never got into it - got another to make Death as well). So now seeing Auden styled and dressed like this… my heart skipped a bit. If I mess a bit with his hair, he’ll be Morpheus in doll form. His outfit looks really cool, especially the coat with the lacquered herringbone fabric, which, combined with his merino sweater, elevate the otherwise classic suit. Needless to say I entered for this one as well. And here I must note that the price for each of the dolls is the same as for the FR collection, when usually the Monarchs were a bit pricier in the past. Last minute thought: When he was part of the Dynamite Girls, he was in a collection named Back To Brooklyn.

The Story:

Noah Faraday returned to New York with stories from all around the world. But it was the story he left behind that pulled at him the most. The city felt different now-- less like home and more like a memory. Seeing Jaeme again had the feeling of something familiar, yet was tinged with new meaning.

Noah of course is known by lots of other names, as he had many past lives before becoming one of the Monarchs: Ace McFly, Riot, Rory Llewelyn, Craig Phillips. He’s looking great here, thanks in most part to the eyelashes making his eyes so interesting. His outfit has lots of pieces and accessories, but I am not very fond of boho chic, especially when it looks more chic than boho. What you can only see in the accessories photo is the extra pair of pants that was added at the last minute - the length of those shorts is ridiculous: covering the knee, also known as the Chanel length. Come to think of it, imagine him in a Chanel jacket. Love his pleather bucket hat (until the moment it rots to oblivion) and all his accessories: bag, shoes, jewellery and the best pair of sunglasses in the collection. Socks should have been a bit higher - you either wear them mid-calf or make them disappear. And just noticed that there is no ring on any of the guys, despite lots of earrings and necklaces and bracelets.

Much like Noah, Jaeme has a past as well: Jerrica Benton was her first incarnation, before becoming Jaeme for Color Infusion. Paradoxically she looks more cartoon-y here than all her previous versions - the eyes are way to big for the sculpt, reminding me a lot of Defa Lucy dolls. I do not know if that is a deliberate move on Integrity’s part but she looks weird, especially wearing very conservative business attire. This outfit shows Von Ranson’s Ralph Lauren past in a major way. She comes with two bags, which is great. We have seen similar boots before on Nu Face ladies and she has the same glasses as Noah. Also, her outfit reminds me a lot of the Tweed Intrigue Poppy Parker outfit.

For Day Three of Dolly-Days, Integrity Toys unveiled a Basic Edition Tenzin Dahkling designed by Alain Tremblay and Vaughn Sawyers. A reminder that Basic Edition dolls tend to have a lower price point and a much larger edition size (which sometimes includes restocking*) that make them more accessible to the general public. That means they also come with minimal clothing and accessories.

Integrity Toys online event 2023: 7 sins

Another year that Integrity Toys held an online event in place of an actual, in person convention: called 7 Sins, it gave us seven new dolls, all available only to W Club members through right-to-buy lotteries. The dolls belong to various lines from the IT line-up: East 59th, Poppy Parker, Nu Face, Fashion Royalty and Monarchs Homme. Poppy Parker and FR had two dolls each, while the rest of the lines had one. Integrity Toys decided to have all their designers and Percy Newsom, their CEO, meet in Las Vegas with Carol Roth. The City of Sins seems a fitting place for this theme - just imagine it being an actual convention there. But fear no more - at the last moments of the online event, Percy announced that the company will hold their first in person convention for 2024, no more details given. There were two separate videos presenting the dolls, with Carol welcoming each designer to talk about them. The quality of the videos was not very professional, and some of the gimmicks made people look and act awkward but by the end of it they seemed to have fun. Which is always good when you’re working. A game was also held, giving rewards to people who participated in an online IT contest. The collection overall is strong, on a par with the Curated event earlier this year. Another Della that looks like all previous Dellas a lot, just changing hairstyle and outfit. I love this hairdo, it gives her the look of a 50s silver screen legend, but not enough to justify the cost. And I do not want any more lingerie ensembles in my collection, I already have tons. As for the sin she’s representing, lust=lingerie is a bit expected, no? Just think of her in a slinky semi transparent sequinned floor length sheath with a thigh-high slit up her leg and a dawn feather coat a la Dietrich.

That’s a Barbie Poppy if I’ve ever seen one! Blonde and dressed in pink, with lots of goodie bags to signify greed (and to drive home the point even more, look at those logos on them), she’s like a reincarnation of Margot Robbie if she ever decides to do “Poppy Parker: The Movie”. Not very exciting apart from that, in contrast to her envious twin. The beauty mark is a lovely touch. Does the texture of her suit remind anyone of paper towels?

Best doll of the bunch alongside the following one, Erin is smashing it here. I am not that crazy about pink hair (pink and wrath don’t match that well) but it goes well with the overall punk aesthetic - Vivienne Westwood meets Alexander McQueen on Barbie. Also notice in the photo above that she has an undercut, like a punk girl would. She also reminds me a lot of the Royal Life 2007 convention dolls, especially Odd girl Out Colette Duranger - is this another Moment for Nu Face and Jessy? Is the paper bag clutch a trick or treat reference?

Isabella with a mirror to show vanity - plus her “mirrored” outfit. Instead of reusing the same mirror that Nadja had in the Heirloom collection, maybe it could have been an actual mirror bag like the Lady Dior one by Frederic Leclere, instead of the transparent one she actually comes with (see below). That might have also justified the $180 price tag (ouch!), because the dress and accessories don’t. By the way the dress is the custom Vera Wang outfit that Zendaya rocked at the 2021 CFDA Awards. Love the intricate hair do - may be that is the reason for the pricing? Overall nice but not $180 nice.

Wow! Maybe best doll of the event, this Dania is amazing, The dress is very Balenciaga (both old and new) and it is the gift that keeps on giving, with three distinct looks created from it, depending on the pieces attached or not. The doll is breathtakingly beautiful, with her sleek up-do and great make up. My only complaint is that I would have prefered black velvet opera gloves and a shiny metallic clutch to finish the look. A miniature fan would have also looked good with this. Love that choker. We have seen the spider as a choker before but I do not get how it connects with gluttony. Which otherwise is shown with the dress ever growing volumes as Jessy said during the presentation.

Very interesting outfit - if my budget allowed it I would enter for this. Its inspiration is from look 23 in the Schiaparelli Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2022/23 collection, (even the bag) but would have preferred the outfit to look closer to the original one. Nice fashion outfit for Poppy. Not crazy about the tulle coat and the fit of the dress on her body around her belly looks wrong - the tulip shape in this scale is problematic with fabrics like this. Maybe it is something that can be taken care of in styling, as it looks ok when not on the doll (see below). Despite the horns on the clutch, she looks more Christmas-y than devilish. Love her jewellery. The doll is Sizzling in Paris Poppy Parker with a slightly different hairstyle- David said it was an option they considered when designing the doll.

Nice shoe pack for the FR and NU Face ladies. We have seen some of these on dressed dolls before (the pair below looks a lot like one of NAP Aymeline’s but with two buttons), but I know there can never be enough shoes for our dolls, no?

Nice pack of Poppy Parker shoes - especially the orange, green and red ones. It would have looked even better if they all came in miniature shoe boxes in shopping bags instead of the usual box they come in.

Dolly Fridays 1: The 4th W Club doll for 2022 is Metropolitan Adventurer Tajinder Chowdhury

To start 2023 in a nice way, Integrity Toys replaced Dolly Days (a week of various online doll offerings) with Dolly Fridays: each Friday for the three remaining weeks of January, W Club members will be receiving offerings from the company. The 4th W Club Exclusive of the 2022 membership year was the first doll unveiled on Friday the 13th no less! Designer Vaughn Sawyers was inspired by a metropolitan adventure to come up with a new version of Tajinder "Taj" Chowdhury. The doll was presented in an email, with the Indian character getting whitewashed as a blonde, light-skinned guy (Hungarian was the original script for his skin tone), while in a subsequent email, we were informed that he will be actually made with the Sunkissed tone. Everything will need to be just right and the team knows that Taj is not only the hottest leading man in front of the camera, but his unique perspective and keen eye are truly an asset behind the camera as well and his input is always welcome!

How can an experienced, professional, long lived company release proper, styled, well produced photos of a doll’s final prototype and unveil it to the public, then release a hushed, head-on-a-pole photo of said doll in a different coloured skin tone? What the heck happened? Was it a knee-jerk reaction to online comments about whitewashing an Indian character? Some would say it is not the first time we see POC characters appearing in a different skin tone, even lighter or downright pale. I would reply yes we have, but it is the norm that this happens after they establish said characters and have them some years around, not in their very second appearance ever.

The fact is that the prototype photos do make Tajinder look more like Callum, the character that first appeared in this sculpt, a Caucasian character. Indian people do have many different skin tones of course. But this whole situation is kind of weird. It does not help that apart from that, the doll is not something extraordinary. If you check older male Integrity Toys dolls, you will see many iterations of this particular style (suit, long hair, sunglasses, man bag, great shoes, watch etc) and in similar colours (but grey shoes? Really? Yuck). So if it is the first time you are getting such a doll, it is a perfectly stylish buy (although those external pockets add a lot of bulk to the silhouette). For the rest of us, it is a pass. Which makes the W Club dolls I am passing this year three!
