The London Look Poppy Parker Collection has been revealed!

We usually get a Poppy Parker collection around this time of the year lately and Integrity Toys did the unveiling of the much anticipated new mod collection, named The London Look. We had our first taste of this collection with the W Club registration Poppy and here we are getting five more Poppy Parker Collection dolls (in four offerings), all created by Integrity Toys designer, David Buttry. The overall concept is that Poppy and her friends travel to swinging London to shop for the trendiest looks at the hippest boutiques. We get three Poppy dolls, one Darla and one Ginger.

The Story:

Poppy Parker had been working hard in London. After a series of successful meetings at the "Poppy Gear" head offices, she was beyond ready to meet up with the girls to grab lunch and do some shopping! Ginger had really been on her case to up her style with some hip London looks. The first stop? Well, of course they had to hit up "The Queen's English", the boutique everyone was talking about. While Poppy had no problem finding the perfect mini dress that was up to Ginger's high standards, the staff and all the other shoppers "oohed" and "aahed" when she entered wearing her fabulous red and blue fashion! -Designed by David Buttry

The Queen's English Poppy Parker doll

The mod collections are usually the most popular between Poppy Parker collectors, and this one looks like it is no exception. First up we have a blonde, short-haired Poppy, using a very recent screening (Glamorous Pink, which I do not have). There was no boutique with that name in London back then and I wonder if they would have allowed such a title for a store front sign. She’s a perfect fit for the mod look and we get two outfits plus loads of accessories and an extra pair of high-heeled legs. Despite the short hair, the screening does not make her look like Twiggy (like She’s Not There), but she’s a bit more mature looking. David’s print reminds me of Rudi Gernreich’s work. Glad I was confirmed by my dealer.

The Story:

No matter where Poppy Parker traveled, she always wanted her best friend Darla Daley close by. And Darla was certainly not going to turn down a chance to go to London again! She really wanted to be there for Poppy, since she knew how important the "Poppy Gear" meetings were to her. But during all that sight-seeing on her last trip, she found the best boutique and couldn't wait to go back. So, when all the work was finished and it was time to play, Darla made sure they got to swing by "Smashing Time" and shop around. She found a dazzling light gold mini dress and even Ginger approved! -Designed by David Buttry

I love Darla but I wish they would give her more extravagant hair styles instead of fluffed up pony tails. She has a gorgeous outfit, with that textured coat and lovely matching dress and belt, plus a golden mini dress that fits her singing career. That dress looks like what Jolie James was wearing in her first appearance back in 2014 (that one had a trim at the edges though and it was probably by an YSL original). Her accessories are fantastic (all dolls have the Poppy clothes hanger, a shopping bag and a shoe box plus the extra high heeled feet) and the bag and earring are especially brilliant. Hope I win her in the lottery.

The Story:

Wherever Poppy Parker and her friends went in London, the word spread quickly. Paparazzi and hordes of onlookers would gather, trying to take a quick snapshot or even just simply catch a glimpse of them. Poppy knew that these scenes would definitely hit the papers, so she just had to switch up her look, even while she was out shopping! She was able to quickly duck back into London's grooviest salon, Viv Vassoon, and get a complete make-over, switch up her outfit and continue her shopping extravaganza at "Mad Mad Mod" without missing a beat! And, of course, Ginger was on hand to make sure that everything went according to plan. -Designed by David Buttry

Mad Mad Mod Poppy Parker Doll

Having played Twiggy a couple of times, it is now Peggy Moffit’s turn to be impersonated by Poppy Parker. And she does a pretty good job at it, even though it is the overall styling, outfits et al, that help cement the impression. I love her and will enter the lottery for her hoping to win but I wish she would have had a more pronounced make up, like Peggy did in most of her photos back then, and also a better trimmed five-point haircut, like the one Vidal Sassoon did on her. David said that this is one of the rare dolls he goes out of the usual route and I say go all the way instead of stopping at half point. Love the pattern of the first dress, designed by David and custom printed for the production, but also adore the window pane check dress with the peter pan collar. The faux fur coat is gorgeous in that shocking pink as is the square-handled bag she sports. Fab fab doll. Finger crossed I win the lotterly.

Too Much Poppy Parker Ginger Gilroy doll set
Too Much Poppy Parker Ginger Gilroy doll set
Too Much Poppy Parker Ginger Gilroy doll set

The Story:

While Poppy was tied up in morning business meetings, Ginger Gilroy got to hit the town and do a little shopping of her own at her favorite boutique, "Too Much!" She was going to meet back up with Poppy at the offices before they headed off together for a fancy lunch at one of the hottest spots in London. Ginger walked in, shopping bags in hand, to Poppy Parker panicking because she forgot to bring a different outfit suitable for the restaurant's dress code. "Ginger to the rescue!" she exclaimed, pulling out an adorable pink mini dress from her shopping bag. Poppy threw her arms around her and said "I owe you big!" but Ginger could still feel Poppy shaking. So, to calm her down as she got ready, she pulled out a transistor radio, played some music from the hottest new London bands and snapped a few photos of Poppy in her newest London look, you know, just in case she needed them for that IOU in the future... -Designed by David Buttry

Too Much Poppy Parker Ginger Gilroy doll set
Too Much Poppy Parker Ginger Gilroy doll set

A two-doll gift set is nothing new for the Poppy Parker collection and here we get another one, with Ginger and Poppy hitting the fashionable Carnaby Street in swinging London, Ginger in a pant suit looks quite different from her usual styles and I love her colour combo (Poppy had that comb in inverse in her & Darla’s gift set as uni girls). Poppy has a dollybird styled look, which I am not a fan of at all, although the doll herself is quite beautiful and has brown eyes. The price is a little higher than what we got before for two doll Poppy sets. I am not entering for this one. Would love to have that green top of Ginger’s though.

See the rotating video for this gift set below:

The London Fashion Doll Festival 2019 was amazing - and I was there to experience it!

My second ever fashion doll convention, the London Fashion Doll Festival 2019, was held on the weekend of 8-9 June in London, at the lovely V&A Museum Of Childhood in Bethnal Green, London. I had promised the organisers that I’d join them in this second time of the convention being held, so there I was! The event took place over two days in the Summerly Room Of The museum, plus an adjoining smaller room for the workshop.

Everyone registered upon entry, with an easy scan of our ticket. We were given our goody bags according to our registration level (with or without the exclusive Superdoll convention doll). As I found out, the bag had loads of lovely gifts!  Check them out below.

public.jpeg

The tables were set for eight persons and mine was named Carnaby Girl. I had the honour of being in the same table with Desmond Lingard (from Superdoll), Izzy Parker with her husband Ian, Christina Paul (who runs the Doll Club Of Great Britain website) and of course, from the organisers, Simon Farnworth, his husband Carl and Kim London. What an amazing company to be with! The tables had a folder with two lovely sketches inside by Navdeep Sikand, creator of the lovely Anouk dolls...

FullSizeRender.jpg

...who also offered ten of them for centerpieces on each table! They were raffled off to the attendees near the end of the day, Izzy won ours. The dress and bags are made by Ineke Hintz. The gorgeous base was given along with the doll. If enough requests are made, LFDF will be able to have some for sale.

Our centerpiece doll! There were blonde and raven versions of the doll.

Our centerpiece doll! There were blonde and raven versions of the doll.

Everyone else at the table got a small gift as well - i won the miniature chess you see below in the round box. I was lucky enough to receive some lovely gifts from my table mates too - Kim gave me the tea set (donated by her), Carl the amazing jewellery set (by Alla Dolgaleva Rapoport), Sofia the miniature Barbies and the wonderful Thomas Bartholomew Maffei, who came all the way from the USA, gave me the Sparkle Girl outfits!

public.jpeg
IMAGE.JPG

Izzy had a gorgeous doll with her, the fantastic Glory resin Sybarite from the Los Angeles Convention earlier this year (above) , while Desmond had with him the 12” House Of Zenith Avenue, introduced earlier this year. She’s not wearing her original fashion and looked better IRL than in photos I had seen (below).

IMAGE.JPG

Soon enough, it was time for the workshops to begin. I had registered for both, so my schedule was full! First one was the Face Up workshop by Claudio Coronado, who was introduced by Simon Farnworth.

IMAGE.JPG

Claudio was very thorough in showing us the steps in how to begin painting a doll’s face. A slideshow helped him show the detailed work he does.

IMAGE.JPG

We got a great list of all the steps to follow when painting a doll face and helped us understand it is no easy task. Which is why you see the “before” photo of the doll head I had to paint, but not the “after”!

IMAGE.JPG

The artist at work. This magnifying glass type is perfect for detailed work, I must get one.

IMAGE.JPG

After the end of the workshop, I had the chance to photograph the dolls on display. The Carnaby themed set up was beautiful.

IMAGE.JPG

The items that were going to be raffled off the next day, to support a great cause, the Children With Cancer UK charity, we’re also on display. See the slideshow below. I should also mention that there is an ebay auction with exclusive OOAK creations (dolls or outfits) for LFDF 2019, to benefit the same charity, that ends on the 22nd of June 2019, so go to this link to check the offerings and bid!

If you love Sybarites, you know Desmond is an incredibly talented photographer as well. Some of his magnificent prints were on display and for sale.

IMAGE.JPG
IMAGE.JPG

There was a small exhibition of 60s dolls as well, check them out below in the slideshow.

Emperis Dolls had a beautiful display as well and I got to meet the lovely Marcus and William who make them. They had both their new 12” dolls and their 16” ones on display and for sale. Some amazing OOAK dolls were there too, check out Cher in the slideshow below. The guys told me they almost sold out during the day.

Then it was time for the second workshop of the day: Sofia Kalaitzidi from Microsonik London showed us how to make a flower wig. These were very popular during the 60s in editorials and covers of fashion magazines. Elizabeth Taylor and members of the British Royal family were sporting them often in events.

IMAGE.JPG

Here are the materials Sofia gave us for the wig plus a prepared base for us to work on.

IMAGE.JPG

I managed to go as far as you can see below during the workshop (I’m hopeless with a needle). Some just threaded the larger flowers through the base as they had long wire stems, so no sewing needed, but I wanted a more delicate effect. Will try and finish it home!

IMAGE.JPG

And here I am next to the lovely Francesco from Fred-Dolls at the workshop - we had so much fun!

IMG_6214.JPG

After the workshop ended, it was time for afternoon tea! A proper British tea, with everything necessary - tea, scones, clotted cream, jam, milk, sandwiches, sugar, macaroons and other treats! It was delectable.

IMAGE.JPG

During tea time, members of the organising team (l to r: dear Ismail, Simon and Claudio) presented the people dressed in sixties or sixties inspired clothes.

The t-shirts worn by the organisers ate the official convention shirt and all attendees got one!

The t-shirts worn by the organisers ate the official convention shirt and all attendees got one!

there were eight of them, all lovely and dapper in mod outfits…

public.jpeg

…and the winner was Olga, who was the most popular - people voted for their favourite contestant by giving them their raffle ticket!

public.jpeg

Near the end of the day, it was time for the most anticipated reveal: Desmond unveiled the exclusive convention Sybarite doll!

public.jpeg

Her name is Dejah and she is the last Generation X Sybarite doll to be released! The edition is 30 dolls and there are two more available at the LFDF site - hurry up!

public.jpeg

You can see my doll below, as I opened the box right after the presentation. The last photo is the official one from Superdoll. She’s like a Motown singer from a girl group the 60s or a Northern Soul singer on a tour in Britain in the late 60s..

And here I am with dear Desmond - this one is for you Shazam Paname! Charles was in China, supervising doll production in the factory.

public.jpeg

This was the first day of the London Fashion Doll Festival, full of wonderful people sharing our doll passion, making beautiful memories and seeing so many gorgeous dolls. Next up, the Salesroom day.

The 2nd London Fashion Doll Festival is being held this weekend at the V&A Museum Of Childhood!

The second edition of the London Fashion Doll Festival will be taking place this coming weekend at the Victoria & Albert Museum Of Childhood, in Bethnal Green, London. After the success of last year’s first edition, the organisers are making this one even better and enriched with lots of activities. And guess what? I’m attending this year! So those of you not being able to attend will get to see lots of photos and read all the juicy stuff after I return.

IMG_9677.JPG

This year, the theme is Carnaby: the Swinging London fashion era, with Twiggy, Mary Quant, Jean Shrimpton, Carnaby Street fashions, mods  and so much more as inspiration! You can see the program for the two-day event below. Access on Saturday is only for registered attendees, while the Sunday salesroom can be accessed by the public via tickets bought either online or on site.

IMG_9676.JPG

As you can see in the program, there are two workshops, one for making a flower wig and a second for doll face enhancement, which is already sold out.

IMG_9675.JPG
IMG_9674.JPG

Just like last year, the incredible Superdoll Collectables London people are making an event exclusive doll, a LE of 30, which will be revealed at the event. It will probably be one of the last vinyl Sybarites. I have already reserved mine and can’t wait to see her!

IMG_9679.JPG

The salesroom is full of amazing dolls and doll stuff:

IMG_9683.JPG

There are some competitions and even non-attendees can join! Take a look here

The V&A Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, London is once again serving as the venue for the second convention.  The MOC is the UK’s National Museum of Childhood. It is the largest institution of its kind in the world. Its mission is to hold in trust the nation’s childhood collections and to be an international leader in engaging audiences in the material culture and experiences of childhood.

IMG_9684.JPG

This year LFDF decided to support the Children With Cancer UK charity. They are doing this via an eBay OOAK doll auction and a raffle which will take place during the Sunday Salesroom. Last year LFDF raised almost £14,000 for the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital Charity.

Anna Sui Japan does Barbie as part of her Swinging Tokyo Collection!

Anna Sui, the well known US fashion designer, has launched a new project called "SWINGING TOKYO". Taking inspiration from the 1960s London street culture "Swinging London", which is the origin of her creation, she proposes a fashion that can be enjoyed freely and urbanely for the next generation of Tokyo. In this project, she initiated a collaboration with various other creatives. From May 1st, 2019 (Wednesday), sales begin at Isetan Shinjuku and the official online shop (Japan).

IMG_9079.PNG

One of the project’s collections is a collaboration with Barbie. There are four types of dolls combined with an outfit designed by Anna Sui and an original mug, comprising a set of Barbie Doll and Anna Sui collection-ware that will be cherished by all ages. The combination of the catchy and girly world of both brands is a must-see for fans. Each set is sold for ¥21,600 (about US$194.00). There are some T-shirts too. The title below and all information are translated from the Japanese site.

IMG_9078.JPG

According to the Japanese website, special items created from the "SWINGING TOKYO" project will start being sold sequentially at the Isetan Shinjuku Store and Anna Sui Official Online Shop from Wednesday, May 1st, 2019. I could not find any Barbie items online yet. The price is expensive for the doll quality: it is just a $5.00 play line doll repackaged in a Sui branded box. You do get an Anna Sui dress with her plus the mug but $190.00 for these is just too much. Remember that a Barbie collector designer doll is usually $100-150. And they are very limited. I wouldn’t pay even half the price for those sets, knowing of probably discard the doll. My favourite is the black dress with the bow. And for that price, they could have given each set a differently coloured mug, no?

Beautiful Poppy but all dressed in black? We already had one black clad Poppy in the previous wave, Welcome to Misty Hollows. And too many blondes already too.  If she was a red head, it would make her so much more intriguing. She is very elegant though.

This Poppy Parker doll is 12-inch tall and fully articulated, featuring hand-applied eyelashes. Her mod hair is trimmed in a short, sleek bob and Poppy wears a tiger print mini-dress under a bright pink fur coat. Shoes, handbag and jewelry complete the look. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

Pops right at you this one! Not a fan of this animal print, so money saved here. I don't like her bob either - why can't we get an AA Poppy with a more AA hairstyle of that era, like a wild afro or an elaborate african-queen style up-do? The fur is a bit cheap looking, no?
