Dolly Days - Day Two: The Weekend In The Poconos is the new East 59th collection!

Dolly-Days Day 2 was, much like in previous years, the day of the unveiling of the new East 59th Collection, designed by the amazing Chris Stoeckel. The collection is called The Weekend In The Poconos. Poconos was a famous resort destination in the 1950s and the concept is that some of the East 59th characters spend a weekend relaxing there. So it’s a collection of mix-and-match sportswear and matching luggage.

Three of the four dolls will be available via Integrity Toys' authorized dealers, while Laird Drake is an IT Direct item and will only be available via a right-to-buy lottery.

A redhead version of Cora - this makes her now available in three basic hair colours: blonde, black and redhead - next one should be a brunette. I love the outfit, sporty but chic and elegant, in a way that only the 1950s could. She has a suitcase and each doll has a different luggage item, so all four make a complete luggage collection. Otherwise, her accessories are minimal, which didn’t use to be the case with this line. The good thing is that she comes with extra high heeled legs, in case she has to attend a cocktail party later on. I’d get her if I had a bigger budget - all three ladies ship mid February, so it is quite fast.

Maeve makes an appearance again, this time as a blonde, with darker skin. I am not crazy about the outfit - it reminds me of The Chauffeur’s Daughter Sabrina doll, which I did not get because of the drab outfit. Love the hat and bag. She too has the extra high heeled legs.

Evelyn is always impressive and this appearance is no exception, even if she’s in the sportiest we have ever seen her so far - in a very 1950s way of course. Dashing Laird makes an appearance very quickly after his previous one, if you consider that it took years to make his second. Again a lottery doll (all the ladies are dealer dolls), with a limited edition of 600, it will be a bloodbath. I love his look and the colouring of it all - he looks smashing. He has a suitcase and a fedora hat, although I’d rather see him in a cap for a weekend in a resort. Come to think of it though, it is the first fedora that appears in the line, and it was about time for the guys, as it was the ubiquitous man’s hat back then. I entered the lottery, as he will be arriving mid to late March, which helps with better payment scheduling.

In case you did not notice, the collection is so coherent stylisticaly and visually, that the ladies can exchange pieces anytime - Chris Stoeckel took some photos to show it off. And you can also check a video of the dolls.

Neutral Code: Poppy Parker goes mod once more!

We got a mini collection of Poppy Parker dolls this year - and, as we already knew, it is inspired by the Mod era. The concept is that Poppy travels from New York to London for the opening of avant-garde artist Riley Ridget's latest "Op Art" installation. Designed by David Buttry, it is the first ever Poppy Parker collection completely in black and white. Two dolls are lottery through the W Club and the others are sold through dealers.

I love this one - the smoky eye combined with pale lips is always a winner for me and the pied-de-poule (or hounds-tooth) pattern always a favourite.She fully embodies the concept. She will look great next to The Girl from I.N.T.E.G.R.I.T.Y. Poppy from 2014, which would fit perfectly in this collection too. She has the Hold That Tiger screening. The closest I could get researching the inspiration is this 1966 Geoffrey Beene outfit.

Not feeling this one. And the main reason is that she reminds me a lot of the British Invasion Poppy from the Swinging London collection in 2017, which I already own. Then, it is the lip colour that does not seem to go with her hair colouring at all. She has darker hair than BI. Also their hats are identical - only BI’s is white.  So I skipped entering the lottery for this one. The inspiration is from a 2013 outfit from Fay Spring Summer collection, which of course was inspired by similar mod era dresses.

It looks like I’m finally getting a freckle faced doll after all - this Ginger looks like the epitome of mod era girl in the variety of outfits she comes in! Love her short hairstyle, overall Twiggy inspiration and Cardin inspired extreme coat, along with her Courrèges boots and striped hooded outfit (either Mary Quant or Rudi Gernreich inspired). She will compliment She’s Not There Poppy Parker so well.

Adornements is the new East 59th collection by Chris Stoeckel for Integrity Toys!

A new East 59th Collection was presented to W Club members, created of course by Integrity Toys' designer Chris Stoeckel. It is the Adornments Collection and the story-line says that Laird Drake's agency just signed a very lucrative deal with Adorn, one of New York City's most prestigious luxury jewellers, to launch a smashing ad campaign promoting some of their most elaborate jewellery. So you can expect lots of gems and glamour in the designs. Here is Chris talking about the collection:

What a lovely lady! Aurelia looks amazing and the whole set exudes luxury and glam in the proper style of the era the story unfolds. It is great to see different colouring on the make up of these dolls - the purple tones compliment the outfit and the amethyst jewellery perfectly. I would have preferred a fabric stole instead of the fur bolero, bringing the whole set more towards an evening ensemble. Chris said she also references Purple Factor Adèle Makeda from 2003.

The problem with most Victoire dolls is that they are gorgeous yet usually look alike so much that I do not get them, missing out on gorgeous outfits like this. The pattern looks more like gingham than houndstooth (as the description says). Love the headband. The bag looks like a Birkin (which was introduced in 1984), which is quite the anachronism, as a Kelly would be much more suitable and era appropriate. Guess Hermès stole the design from someone, right?

Coralynn looks gorgeous again in this lovely outfit, which would have looked even better if it had a hostess skirt over it, much like the first Constance had. Love the bejewelled cigarette holder. I ordered this one immediately.

When he signed the deal with Adorn, Laird Drake did not hesitate to immediately reserve a spot on the cover of his favourite gentlemen's magazine for him to appear on in person, because, after all, save for maybe his beau, he knew that he was the only man in New York who could correctly model Adorn's line of ultra-masculine high-end timepieces! The company's lead designers did not even try to argue; there was no point fighting it, Laird Drake was just the most elegant man in the City!

Laird looks like Leonardo di Caprio a lot in this new incarnation. Both hairstyle and face-paint are so much different than the first Laird released. He looks very glamorous in his white tie ensemble. The white socks are jarring on this - they are NEVER worn with anything for evening dress, much less a white tie suit. Chris said he wanted to have a break from the pants to the shows, to make the latter pop more but… He added that it is also a nod to Audrey wearing white socks with black loafers in Funny Face, which is something totally different of course. Also cummerbunds are usually left to black-tie dressing or musicians in swing bands when it comes to white tie, a waistcoat is the proper item. At least the pants look like they have two galon as is proper. When are we going to see a proper jacket with tails in these retro era gents? If he had one I would have snatched him in a second. His forehead is low for my taste. EDIT: the production dolls look like they have a much higher hairline than the prototype.

Easily the best doll of the collection, Constance looks amazing here, reminding me a lot of Maria Callas. Appropriately enough, this year is the 100th anniversary from her birth. She also reminds me of a Latina superstar, María Félix, which just had a doll released by Mattel. The gown is spectacular and I love the vinyl gloves, even though the material should have been different to match the era. She has the best jewellery of all the dolls and I think a small, crown-like hair ornament would have completed the ensemble. Even her shoes are bejewelled. Happy to say I won her at the lottery!

Meteor ladies go to the Rococo Ball!

W Club members received an email presenting them with two different mini collections - a Meteor one (four dolls) and a Jason Wu one (two dolls- see next post). The four new Meteor collection dolls, include a brand new character, and are all designed by Integrity Toys designer Vaughn Sawyers. Three of the Meteor Collection dolls are only be available for purchase from authorised Integrity Toys dealers, while the fourth one is an IT Direct lottery exclusive. The concept for the collection is that the ladies are lavishly dressed to attend the Meteor's Rococo Ball, an extravagant evening affair. They come very near the Grand Gala in Rome Magia 2000 doll - with the definitive source of inspiration being the Moschino Fall 2020 collection, Chanel Haute Couture Fall 1990 and of course Queen Charlotte from the TV series Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. The transformation of Keeki is incredible here, she looks like a totally different character. I do not love the light pink lipstick (would have preferred a slightly darker tone to de-Barbiefy her). The athleisure version of rococo style clothes works great despite the tired paisley print, even though the bag looks more like something from Adidas or Thom Browne (depending on your budget). Love the corset (and would be great if I could snatch it somewhere down the line) and the oversize M earrings. The silhouette seems to have a lot in common with this outfit from Moschino Fall 2020 collection.

This is by far my favourite doll from this collection. And this comes not only from the beautiful lady but her outfit as well, hence I pre-ordered and got confirmed for her (even though I was late at least an hour in seeing the email, travelling home on a bus). Nyasha comes originally from the Color Infusion line, so it is really great seeing her here and in this towering pompadour hairstyle. Wish she had a heart shaped beauty mark to complete the look. The outfit seems to be lifted off this Moschino Fall 2020 one. I only wish the pink was instead light gold, to show off more. The pleather boots look a lot like the ones worn throughout the Chanel Fall 1990 Haute Couture collection - and would have matched the outfit Chameleon Vanessa was wearing  in the Supermodel convention collection, which was lifted from that very same couture collection.

There’s something weird going on with the eyes of this one - maybe they are painted too close to the nose? In any case, the wide face syndrome hits once again. why is it so hard to have a narrow face sculpt created? It is so wide that all its features look too small proportionately. Maybe a future version will look better. The tight hairstyle does not help her either. The outfit looks great, even though the embroidery on the skirt of the coat could have been designed a bit more meticulously - it looks half finished. For $175.00 I expect a bit more in this department. It again reminds me of a Chanel Haute Couture Fall 1990 ensemble - a brilliant red one with gold embroidery. Only the skirt is missing.

This is the best version of Amirah yet! Her colouring, her hair, her face, all look beautiful. If I could afford her now, I would try, even though I am not crazy about her outfit. This particular green looks garish compared to the rest of the collection. Also, the pouf skirt draping leaves a lot to be desired. Pity, as she is such a lovely doll. The dress looks a lot like this one from the Moschino Fall 2020 collection.

Dolly Fridays 2: The TRUE™ Collection is unveiled - Industry reborn!

The 2nd Dolly Friday W Club presentation was about a full collection, the second one revealed this club year (after Poppy Parker’s Palm Springs), which could be a sign of things returning to a more regular pace after the disruptions experienced beginning in 2020. There were six dolls unveiled in total, from the brand new TRUE Collection, all created by IT designers David Buttry and Mark Tinkey. The line is a rebranding of Industry, with a bit of Dynamite Girls pizzaz thrown in. Two dolls are IT Direct lottery items, while the rest are available through official IT dealers. I like what David and Mark are doing here - the collection is cohesive and has a definite point of view, combining the various inspirations and influences in a strong and relatable manner. Some dolls tend to look cartoony, edging closer to Dynamite Girls than Industry, but that was to be expected. Let’s hope this iteration stays and does not need another revamp to sell.

We first saw Hollis in Style Lab and she was a popular sculpt, so here she is again as a TRUE character. She has a lovely face and nice make up, but the hair is very play-line. Her outfit is a mix and match of many disparate things that kind of work. Nice to see a different shape for sunglasses. She looks the most adult of the bunch. Hollis, like all the other female dolls of the collection, comes with two pair of feet, high heeled and articulated flat feet, even though they have only one pair of shoes.

This is the first time that Tulabelle appears in a darker skin tone, at least in this sculpt version. I still cannot bring myself to like this sculpt - even though her resemblance to Ginger is stronger. The styling is very Gucci by Alessandro Michele and also has some Twiggy vibes. Awesome combination of colours throughout - and I love the miniature corduroy fabric. The boots are for the articulated flat feet she comes with, but of course one can use the high heeled feet to let her wear other styles.

Probably one of the best versions of this sculpt, Liu Liu looks fantastic here - especially her colourful outfit. It consists of various items that work well together but also will work great in other outfits. I love the quirky hat (fox pin included) - it transforms the whole ensemble. The shoes and earrings are also great accessories and will be easily worked in other outfits. Love the printed bag too - David said it is a custom print, as pretty much all of the prints of this collection. Her face is a bit cartoony with this screening, reminding me a lot of Mulan dolls, but that might also be part of her appeal.

Tate is usually the most popular doll in any collection he’s part of, and this one is no exception. He has a fully flocked head here and it is his first with a darker skin tone- each of his previous iterations had pale skin. His outfit is awesome - the plaid shirt looks a lot like the famous Alicia Silverstone Clueless outfit (and Salvador Arriaga staple) and matches with a gorgeous teddy bear backpack! Awesomeness! Furry bucket hat, multicoloured sneakers, necklace, glasses and watch complete the layered look. The whole look has value for money and I wonder why we cannot have this combination of price/clothing items + accessories in other lines. I’m happy that I managed to be confirmed for him.

Contrary to many collectors, I never liked Jasper. I find the sculpt not only cartoony but also weird looking. This version does not change that. She does have a gorgeous outfit though: a fantastic hooded anorak (that I would wear myself), a beautiful bubble hemmed dress over a printed aqua t-shirt, platform gladiator boots and great jewellery (including a scull ring). I hope to be able to find that anorak at one point.

Auden was always one of the first dolls to sell out whenever Dynamite Girls dolls were unveiled. He returns here as an homage to the Warhol superstar actor Joe D’Alessandro, a very handsome guy that was part of the Warhol inner circle back in the late 60s and early 70s. He does indeed look like him in his prime, and the outfit channels early 70s hippie style transformed into modern dressing fare. For me, he was an instant reminder of a childhood comic figure, Blek Le Roc, an American hunter from the revolutionary era. I already have two gorgeous blonde Audens, so will skip this lottery. His sweater’s back is cyan (due to having an opening to facilitate his dressing). Love both the corduroy jacket (the scale is awesome) and the distressed effect on the pants.
