Integrity Toys 2019 Convention Live From Fashion Week Day 1 - Style Lab Poppy Parker

In honor of Poppy Parker's 10th anniversary, this year's Style lab is dedicated to the popular doll. The concept for the collection is very intriguing:

“IT designer David Buttry invited convention-goers to the ultimate fantasy; what if Poppy Parker was a real person and she was turned into a doll? Picture this: at the height of her modeling career, teen sensation Poppy Parker has been approached by a famous toy maker to turn her and some of her most famous looks from the 1960s into a highly-prized fashion doll that every little boy and girl in the world could dream about.”

Sounds like David had the time of his life designing this one! Prototypes of each doll and outfit were displayed for all attendees to view. Remember that each doll in the Style Lab is sold nude and outfits, carded dresses and accessory packs are sold separately. Dolls have no stand.

Note: All dolls pictured in these photos are prototypes; final colours and textures may vary slightly.

Integrity Toys 2019 Convention: Live From Fashion Week - Day 1

The 2019 Integrity Toys Live From Fashion Week convention opened officially this week in Baltimore and once again, this blog will be bringing you all the new dolls and outfits, as products become available at the convention throughout the weekend. This year's theme is all about fashion, and with the exception of the Poppy Parker Style Lab (which celebrates the 10th anniversary of Poppy Parker), every exclusive doll offered at the event, whether in the convention collection, salesroom, centerpieces or giveaways, is inspired by either Spring, Resort, Summer, Fall or Winter fashion weeks as follows:

Poppy Parker is Fashion Week Spring/Summer 1967

Fashion Royalty is Fashion Spring/Summer 2020

Monarchs is Fashion Week Resort 2020

East 59th is Fashion Week Fall/Winter 1956

The Industry is Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020

NU. Face is Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020

Dolls from the Fashion Royalty® Collection and the NU. Face™ Collection were designed by Jessy Ayala, the East 59th® Collection by Chris Stoeckel, The Monarchs Homme by Vaughn Sawyers and the Poppy Parker™ Collection by David Buttry.

The convention registration started on Wednesday for the attendees who arrived early and they all received "Fresh Perspective" Baroness Agnes Von Weiss in their welcome bag. The bag had Powder Puff Poppy Parker printed on it, celebrating Poppy’s 10th anniversary.

Note: All dolls pictured in these photos are prototypes; final colors and textures may vary slightly.

I’m not crazy about this version of the Baroness. She’s beautiful but I find her make up too pronounced and candy coloured to like (it looks more prominent in real life photos). Her outfit and accessories remind me of Going Public Eugenia. And, as you will see below, most of the dolls in this convention so far, remind me of older releases. I don’t know if it is due to the production problems that troubled Integrity Toys this year or simple lack of inspiration, but I’m a bit underwhelmed by what I’m seeing in the first convention day, with a couple of notable exceptions.

The hot pink suit is lovely. He has nice accessories too, plus a hat and an earring. And yes, the ugly sneaker trend has hit the Monarchs too. Must add that titling your male doll The Art Of Manliness in 2019 and the era of #MeToo and LGTB+ rights is a bit weird.

KITH collaborates with Barbie and offers customers a chance to style their official doll!

KITH is a retail store in New York, founded by designer Ronnie Fieg In 2010. They make and sell sportswear, establish sneaker collaborations and also sell a number of renowned street wear brands. They now announce a collaboration with Barbie, working together to create a special experience for their customers: they will have the chance to create the official Kith x Barbie doll!

public.jpeg

Starting this Saturday 9/21 KITH will be hosting styling appointments where customers will get to select one of the four dolls they have created with Mattel designer Carlyle Nuera and then style them in a look from over 100 different Kith Women apparel pieces. One of these submissions will then be selected to be produced as the official Kith x Barbie doll. Accordimg to their Instagram account though, all appointment slots have officially been filled. They do mention that walk-ins are welcome but cannot guarantee access. Follow them for further updates. I love both the doll’s and the outfits, at least what what we can see in the official photos. I envy the people who will get to style a doll and submit it for a chance to win.

So how come they decided to work with Barbie?. “For sixty years, Barbie has been an international pop-culture phenomenon offering girls around the globe a chance to play, tell stories, and, most importantly, to dream. Kith echoes this mindset by presenting an immersive world for its customers by engaging them through a unique retail environment that fosters creativity,” says Kith-founder Ronnie Fieg. This shared philosophy is what started this partnership—and it will remain a key element in the collaboration between Kith and Barbie.

The Kith Women x Barbie collaboration kicks off with a Barbie takeover of Kith’s flagship store in New York.  Several activations are planned including:

STYLING CONTEST: September 21st - September 29th

Kith will host Barbie styling sessions at its Soho location on the second floor – known as the Arsham/Fieg Gallery. By appointment only, participants can choose from four dolls that represent the diversity and the dynamism of the Kith Woman. Entrants will be able to dress, style and outfit on-site with 100 custom doll-sized apparel and accessories pieces from the Kith Women line.

Participants will then submit a photo of their uniquely styled Barbie to be evaluated by a cross-section of the fashion industry’s most notable tastemakers. The panel of judges will include Dianne Garcia, Jackie Kim – director of Kith Women, Maeve Reilly, Ade Samuel and Kith founder Ronnie Fieg. Judges will select the top six looks, which will be put to a public vote via @KithWomen social platform. The submission that receives the most public votes will then become the official limited-edition Kith x Barbie doll, to be released in late 2020 and available from Kith stores worldwide.

RETROSPECTIVE: September 21st to October 2nd

A complementary retrospective exhibition that celebrates Barbie’s 60-year history will be on view at Kith’s Soho store from September 21st to October 2nd. The original Barbie created in 1959, featuring her iconic black and white chevron swimsuit, will be on display, alongside surrounding ephemera and milestone moments. The in-store museum-inspired vignette layout will be a testament to the doll’s empowering legacy and status as a pop-culture icon.

LIMITED EDITION COMMEMORATIVE APPAREL

Kith will also be designing and distributing limited edition Kith x Barbie 60th Anniversary t-shirt, available only to the first 200 attendees.

Integrity Toys Summer 2019 reveal: Fashion Royalty Boudoir Wave 2

The third surprise of this summer’s Integrity Toys reveal was the capsule collection for Fashion Royalty: Boudoir Wave 2 is a continuation of the lingerie dolls from last year, with the difference that they are only available through lottery, making it a bit harder to get for collectors. Again, Jessy Ayala is the designer with Kesenia, Natalia and Jordan his models. For this shoot, Integrity picked Ahmet Steltman to photograph the dolls, and the difference it makes clearly shows. Again, in an accompanying video presentation, Carol Roth addressed the production issues with China and how they are the reason for delayed schedules and less dolls produced this year. Roth mentions Nu Face is coming later in the year and that there is more to come, but nothing specific. Hmm.

Lowres_Boudoir_Group.png

Coming approximately this December, these wonderful ladies will be sold via IT Direct through the W Club's right-to-buy lottery system. All 2019 W Club members will be allowed to enter once per membership for a chance to purchase either or all three of these dolls. Full lottery details will be sent via email approximately in December, closer to their arrival at the IT warehouse.

Kesenia has been absent from the FR line-up for quite a long time, and now she makes a welcomed come-back. Sultry and sexy in her leopard-print lingerie, she stays true to her previous incarnations, while looking more dazzling than ever before. What’s not to love from doll and accessories here? The lipstick changes colours! Her lingerie is like the ones featured in the Faces of Adele gift-set. I’d love to get her but I have to pick only one of the three. The last photo with the shoes and the glove gives me Alaia vibes.

A gorgeous version of Natalia, even though it feels awkward to have a Latina in Japan skin-tone. I have an older version of her in Japan skin tone, Belissima, but that one had strong colouring. This one is as soft as a feather, looking sensational. Her screening is the Shapeshifter one. Her shoes combine satin and sparkly leather. Love the ruffled robe.

Jordan has always been a favourite of mine, and after her previous underwhelming appearance in the Femme collection, this one shines like a diamond. Fierce and feisty, she looks amazing with the leather lingerie - lots of S/M vibes here - and net thigh high boots (yes, it’s not simple stockings). Gorgeous chocker (the spider is too obviously goth, a simple blood coloured stone would have been enough) and vinyl gloves. And those burgundy nails! She looks a bit like Vamp Agnes here. This is the one I’m entering the lottery for, fingers crossed.

Integrity Toys Summer 2019 reveal: new Tulabelle for The Industry

The surprise from the Poppy reveal was nothing compared to the Industry one. Not even a capsule collection was dedicated to The Industry: only one single doll was unveiled, the new refreshed and revamped Tulabelle. The doll pays homage to her first 16” namesake, wearing the same outfit, with an added look as a bonus. The new sculpt looks nothing like the previous one, not even like the original 16” doll. She looks like she has a wide face, a worrying trend for new Integrity sculpts. The outfit is nice, channelling Anna Sui boho chic, with great accessories, but I don’t like the doll. She has hints of a young Marie Osmond. Not a good thing in my book. And she is $155.00. Ouch.

A real life image of the doll, from the designer himself, David Buttry.

She does look better in the real life photo by David Buttry, which is encouraging. Will see how she transforms in future incarnations. The China factory problems are the reason again for not having a proper Industry collection. Looks like this is going to be a dry doll year. Only W Club members are allowed to enter a lottery for a chance to purchase this doll, so if you want one, you’ll have to wait for a chance to pick her up on the secondary market.
