Integrity Toys 2024 convention - Stilettos Out day 1: Welcome Dinner

The Welcome Dinner takes place at the end of the first convention day and, of course, has some more dolly goodies for attendees. "Monegasque Society" Eugenia Perrin-Frost as Monica Frost, designed by Alain Tremblay, would have been the centerpiece doll, if the dolls were actually there. Instead people saw her photo as a pop-up cutout on tables. The secret mystery bonus "Build-an-Accessory" from the NU. Face Seven Style Lab that holds a clue to the convention's story line was revealed. Before the night ended, attendees found out about the next accessory set for Donna Drake's "Cryptic Cases" gift set designed by Alain Tremblay, and also discovered that "Eye Candy" Victoire Roux was their giveaway doll, designed by Chris Stoeckel. Let’s check them out.

This Eugenia is one of the most beautiful dolls of the convention. She reminds me a lot of another Eugenia convention doll, Bittersweet from 2013. And I have the same problem with this one that I had with Bittersweet: the lipstick that does not vibe with me at all. A more natural lip would have looked much better, and kept the style as is. In any case, she is a gorgeous doll. I love the dress (finally velvet!) and the shoes are magnificent with that decorative detail. The character she’s supposed to be is her mother or mother in law.

I don’t know about you, but I definitely did not have Victoire as a showgirl in my bingo card for the convention! The doll herself is gorgeous, but the outfit is missing a material intrinsic to showgirl costumes everywhere: feathers, plumes! It looks almost half finished without them. Pity, as the doll is so beautiful. The impression is similar to the classic Bird Of Paradise Gene Marshall doll from 1997.

The Mysterious Build-An-Accessory was revealed during dinner, pieces of which were scattered in the Style Lab boxes. As explained when this year's Style Lab was first announced, those who purchased the entire Style Lab collection received all the components to complete this special bonus mystery accessory. Once all of the "diamond-encrusted" components are collected, they look like a weird device, once assembled. What could this mean? The plot thickens!

Integrity Toys 2024 convention - Stilettos Out day 1: The convention collection and welcome doll

This year, Integrity Toys decided that it was about time they returned to an in-person convention, instead of the virtual online events they organized from 2020 onward, because of the pandemic. It sold out as is always the case with the IT events. They did a rehearsal last year with the Curated event (which was sold out as well but it left much to be desired in the organization department). So you can imagine that all club members, even the ones not attending, held their breath waiting for the event to start.

And then the unexpected happened: attendees received an email, about a week from the event, that the dolls for the convention had not arrived and would not be at the hotel, due to a combination of port workers three-day strike, the repeated hurricanes striking US east coast etc. Instead, attendees would have to make do with the prototype dolls on display, a QR code system to place their orders on-site. The dolls would ship to the attendees homes after the event and the company would supply gift cards as credit for the shipping costs. The furore of the club members was such (plus pointing out a clause in the terms and conditions of the convention ticket that specified free shipping in case the dolls were not delivered at the event), that IT had to change course and give real free shipping to all attendees. Of course those attending that come outside the US still have to pay taxes /custom duties when dolls are shipped to them instead of travelling back in their suitcase, and that is quite an extra cost to shoulder. The overall tone of the email did not help, as it was far from apologetic and more like “oops! we had an accident, no biggie”. The fact that the company waits until the very last week before an event to receive their merchandise for it shows poor planning. Even people like me, outside the US, knew about the hurricane season troubles, even the planned port workers strike. Also, since the pandemic, shipping keeps having serious problems with being on time (not that it did not have any before, but…), so it is always prudent to plan ahead of time. Anyway, let’s hope that all this will be seriously addressed at some point in the convention, directly from IT to their loyal, hard cash earned paying customers face to face.

In

So, on with the show - what is the Stilettos Out story all about? As per the club email:

Many highly sought-after, ultra-rare artefacts have disappeared all over the world and no one, not even the savviest, most fashionable detectives from the the SSB (Secret Style Bureau) and other covert agencies like FPI (Fashion Police International) have been able to figure out how these seemingly disconnected items are related! This year’s convention attendees were invited to participate in this intriguing mystery, tasked to help fictional true crime podcaster/blogger Donna Drake collect clues that will ultimately solve this decades-old cold case!

On the first day of the event, attendees arrived for registration (with early registration taking place on the previous day) and received their welcome bag, which included a mysterious dossier with some clues, and also learned they were getting a Welcome Gift Set, seeing the first part, the "Cryptic Cases" Imogen Lennox as Donna Drake doll, to be completed with more clothes and accessories during the event. The whole thing is part of the clue searching, as she’s the investigating agent all attendees must help uncover the mystery. Below, you can see the Welcome Gift Set doll as well as the Convention Collection dolls, available for attendees at the Souvenir Shop along with the NU. Face Seven Style Lab, which will be in the next article.

Imogen looks beautiful and must have been a welcome surprise to people registering for the convention, as there had been no mention of a welcome doll in the event communication. She does remind me of Be Daring Imogen 2016 club upgrade doll and also the Tropicalia 2012 convention had Imogen as a welcome gift set too! She looks quite basic now, let’s see what else she will acquire during the event to complete her set - and solve the mystery perhaps?

Vanessa looks like an Old Hollywood screen siren here, like Ava Gardner or Jane Russel. Bombshell material! Her screening looks a bit off to me, as if she’s trying to imitate someone else - let’s say Natalia for example. The hairstyle contributes to that feeling as well.Love her opera glasses! The shoes, corsage and stiletto (this style of a dagger makes it a stiletto) could have been part of the Magia 2000 Vanessa, no?

Poppy Parker plays Leia Organa in Star Wars: The Fashion Movie! Her braided hairstyle, apart from the famous film icon, reminds me of the Tokyo Twilight Poppy. She has the Spicy in Spain screening. Do you remember the Style Lab 2018 convention collection? It was named Miss behave and had a build-a-doll Poppy Parker doll as gift if you had all the collection bought (her pieces were hidden inside the other doll/outfit boxes). Her outfit is very 60s era space age looks, like the ones made by Courrèges and Cardin.

A new version of Tate Tanaka is always good news. When I first saw online photos of this guy from the convention (the prototype doll displayed there), I was instantly smitten. After a while though I noticed two things that made me go hmmm - his bland screening and his huge forehead. When you name a character Raven, you should go that little bit towards the goth connotations, no? Some eyeliner, a stronger brow. The suit is kind of tame, if you take out the boots and leather cummerbund, but I like its texture, like a deconstructed tweed.

A lovely version of Constance, that somehow does not pass muster for a spy, even though she is holding a retro-futuristic gun and a finger cigarette holder. She’s more like a film noir heroine, who just murdered her cheating husband and is waiting for the sleuth protagonist to show up. I love the light blue stones of her jewellery set.

Who is the mysterious character embodied by Elyse? Do not google it, you’re in for a great laugh (or not, depending on your situation). Don;t they google the perspective names of characters before they trademark them? LOL. Anyway, she’s a gorgeous doll, with an amazing gown and quite an original screening for Elyse. it shows what you can do if you step, even just a bit, out of the so-called box. Great work Alain (he designed Imogen too). Having said that, she has very minimal accessories - and why aren’t the shoes photographed with the rest of them? She needed at least a bracelet and a ring.

The story:

In the heart of Paris, one NU. Face agency's top model and influencer; Imogen Lennox; is stepping back into the limelight with a fresh project: launching "Wonderland", a new makeup brand created in collaboration with W Cosmetics and inspired by the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland! The brand’s signature colour is baby blue, and Imogen is dressed by the stylists to embody its spirit with a touch of sparkle and flawless makeup to add some modernity to the campaign.

Accompanied by her playful kitten, Blue, Imogen prepared for the grand publicity campaign under the watchful eye of her new collaborator, Véronique Perrin. The studio had been transformed into a magical wonderland, filled with oversized tea cups and pastel lights.

As the photo shoot began, Imogen’s graceful poses and Blue’s spontaneous antics captured the enchanting essence of Wonderland. The resulting images were nothing short of magical, perfectly reflecting the brand’s dreamlike quality.

At the end of the day, Véronique and Imogen admired the stunning photos. “You and Blue brought Wonderland to life,” Véronique said, beaming with pride. Imogen smiled, holding baby Blue close. Just like the city outside buzzed with excitement, "Wonderland" was ready to enchant the world! - Designed by Jessy Ayala

Seeing Imogen as the first W Club doll of the year was a great and welcome surprise. Seeing her being so incredibly beautiful and smashing was even better. I love everything about her, from her new screening with the larger eyes, her awesome hairstyle (which reminds me of Sandy in Grease, if it took place ten years later) and her outfit. Consisting of a multitude of pieces, it not only looks cool and amazing, it also gives you many different combinations. The flower sequins look the same as those on the Hippie Dippy Poppy dress. Did I mention that the bow has a magnet for attaching it however and wherever you like? The chubby faux fur coat? The kitten (which is a very early prototype)? Jessy said he was inspired by Alice in Wonderland, hence the colours and the kitten and the Mary Janes. And it is the 60s through the 90s through now. The club sleuths quickly figured out the real fashion world outfit inspiration: Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2022. And how about her face? We can see echoes of the first ever Giselle (Costume Drama), the Style Lab Fashion Fairy-tale Tulabelle (wearing an Alice in Wonderland outfit), And from real people, she looks a lot like a young Cameron Diaz or even Florence Henderson (and yes Florence could pass as Cameron’s mum).

Baby_Blue_Imogen_Lennox_doll

The accessories are also amazing. We get both high heeled and flat feet, to go with the thigh high boots and the Mary Jane shoes. The silver elongated bag is fantastic and looks inspired by the Miu Miu Arcadie bag. Love the round sunglasses. Plenty of jewellery to pile on, with many bracelets and two pairs of earrings, plus two rings. I could not press the pre-order button fast enough. I have loved Imogen from her very first appearance (and still kick myself for not getting that one but there were so many dolls released at the same time it was impossible), so it was a no-brainer. See below a video of the rotating doll. There was mention of the doll having retouched eyes in the photos and indeed they do look tampered with 0 but check the video to see her real eyes. I guess they did not look exactly as planned, even though they do look great in the video - to my eyes at least.

Integrity Toys Summer 2017 reveal: Nu Face Heirloom collection

The W Club members were eagerly waiting for Saturday the 24th of June for the promised unveil of the two main Integrity Toys collections, Nu Face and Fashion Royalty. After the success of the Reckless collection, the company let the talented Jesse Ayala work his magic again for the new one. And he did not disappoint.
Named "The Heirloom Collection" it is dedicated to all of those little items we own in our personal closets that make our looks so special. Each doll in this series comes with one special item that is true and dear to her. Maybe it's a special pair of earrings, a delicate brush or a fabulous mirror, but it's definitely cherished for generation after generation. Jesse said he was in a romantic mood, with a haunted mansion as his setting, imagining the Nu Face ladies had used it as a set for their fashion shoot. Luckily he did not present a goth rehash but instead his vision is that of a very modern, updated and - dare I say - minimal Victorian aesthetic. It also looks like a successor to Reckless, evolving it forward. The body is Nu Face 3.0 which means no waist articulation and pop out joints.

The dolls are more expensive this year. There was the usual, talk of raised costs in China and paying for quality and fully accessorised dressed dolls. In the case it is backed by a brilliant collection, which will help sales despite the price raise. So run to the authorized dealers as some dolls are already sold out - the W Club members having had 48 hours advance warning. You will find them here: http://www.integritytoys.com/authorized-dealers/

Gorgeous version of Imogen. With her red hair amd pale skin and freckles she is very different from all her previous incarnations. The outfit looks nice as well, with the contrasting textures and colours. The brooch is her heirloom, used in a variety of ways: as a hair or clothing ornament. I have a very limited budget this year so she was the one to cut from my want list. I hope to get her in the future though. Her screening is based on the Going Public Eugenia one, which is a firm favourite not only of Jesse but of most Integrity Toys collectors.

Oh, do not let the flat looking boots deceive you. Her feet are the usual high heeled ones.  They are using a design that looks flat but accommodates the high heel.

Ayumi is a 12.5 inch articulated fashion doll with rooted hair. She comes dressed in a lingerie set, coupled with a knitted cardigan that features petals all over the sleeves. Ayumi comes complete with her mother's cameo ring and heirloom silver plated hand-held brush and leather shoes. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. This doll cannot stand alone; a doll stand is included.

Lovely version of Ayumi, but not a match to her Reckless one. Again a close up doll, but she has a cameo ring and the brush (heirloom, Jesse said it has real bristles). Her screening was inspired by Ginza Kyori. Her stockings have a fake patterned leather style that looks gorgeous.

LIlith and Eden are 12.5 inch articulated dolls with rooted hair. Each doll comes dressed in a look composed of multiple pieces that overlay to create modern urban ensembles. Each doll in the set comes with retro-inspired handbags, lace-up high-heeled boots, and tassel earrings. For adult collectors ages 15 and up only. The dolls cannot stand alone; doll stands included.

Another twin gift set. Is it me or are they becoming too ubiquitous? I love bits and pieces from each ensemble but the accessories not so much. Compared to their Reckless versions, here the sisters are tame and casual. Still gorgeous though. They will be available through a lottery from IT DIRECT later this year.  Jesse said that the zipper on Lilith's top is functional and can go all the way down, making it look like a dress. Note that in the poll that followed the presentation, the twins were overwhelmingly  the most popular, Nadia second with less than half the votes, while Ayumi was the least popular choice. As far as how they pick which dolls will be available through lotteries, like the twins now, they said it is quite often a matter of getting a doll to the public in a lower cost than doing it the usual way - I.e through dealers - would entail.

So what do you think about the Heirloom collection? Love it or not? Better than Reckless? Which dolls are you getting? Let me know in the comments. And you should also read the brilliant review Marcela wrote in Kotori Couture for the line, elaborating on so many issues beyond mere fashion commentary. Oh, and she also gives you all,the inspiration behind each outfit- so much Louis Vuitton!
