New East 59th collection: The Four Seasons!

A new East 59th Collection of four dolls was unveiled two days ago, designed of course by Chris Stoeckel. It is named The Four Seasons Collection and the concept is that each East 59th doll is doing a glamorous ad campaign for a top clothing company, having four looks representing the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. The doll screenings are all new, which is good, as they were beginning to be repetitive. Two dolls from the collection will be available via Integrity Toys' authorised dealers, but the "Summertime Outing" Evelyn Weaverton and "The Winds Of Winter" Victoire Roux dolls are IT Direct dolls and were only be available via a right-to-buy lottery for W Club members.

Despite the new screening, this Constance reminds me a lot of the first one. After all, Chris says it is based on the first one for inspiration. I’m not in love with the print of the dress (and matching coat lining) but love the colour combination of blue and yellow. She has shopping bags as accessories, and an umbrella, which sadly is not functioning. Wonder how many more people would go for her if her umbrella could open.

 She’s the one I coveted from this collection. I like her look, both doll and outfit. But the real attraction is the picnic set in a wicker hamper, which is something we have not seen before at IT and looks amazing. The wicker matching purse is the cherry on top. The screening is a modified updated version of the first screening, with a more sultry look, per Chris. Gorgeous.

First time with a forward eye screening for Della, yet she still looks a lot like before to me. I’m not crazy about her blonde hair/blue eyes combo, she always looks so much better in darker colouring. Just imagine her in a dark brown bubble cut with brown eyes. Her outfit is very chic, with that lovely hat and bag, and her design portfolio suits it just fine. Pity her jewellery is very basic.

Victoire is dressed for winter and has a dog as well! The fabric print looks great but I think she would look even better if it was in shades of emerald green to contrast her red hair. Would have also preferred some fur trim on the collar, hat and gloves (and she could come without the dog and flowers to offset the cost). Lovely jewellery and bag. The new screening has different eyebrows and looks a bit more sultry. The Winds of Winter is so Game Of Thrones!

Integrity Toys online event 2023: 7 sins

Another year that Integrity Toys held an online event in place of an actual, in person convention: called 7 Sins, it gave us seven new dolls, all available only to W Club members through right-to-buy lotteries. The dolls belong to various lines from the IT line-up: East 59th, Poppy Parker, Nu Face, Fashion Royalty and Monarchs Homme. Poppy Parker and FR had two dolls each, while the rest of the lines had one. Integrity Toys decided to have all their designers and Percy Newsom, their CEO, meet in Las Vegas with Carol Roth. The City of Sins seems a fitting place for this theme - just imagine it being an actual convention there. But fear no more - at the last moments of the online event, Percy announced that the company will hold their first in person convention for 2024, no more details given. There were two separate videos presenting the dolls, with Carol welcoming each designer to talk about them. The quality of the videos was not very professional, and some of the gimmicks made people look and act awkward but by the end of it they seemed to have fun. Which is always good when you’re working. A game was also held, giving rewards to people who participated in an online IT contest. The collection overall is strong, on a par with the Curated event earlier this year. Another Della that looks like all previous Dellas a lot, just changing hairstyle and outfit. I love this hairdo, it gives her the look of a 50s silver screen legend, but not enough to justify the cost. And I do not want any more lingerie ensembles in my collection, I already have tons. As for the sin she’s representing, lust=lingerie is a bit expected, no? Just think of her in a slinky semi transparent sequinned floor length sheath with a thigh-high slit up her leg and a dawn feather coat a la Dietrich.

I am always partial to anything green, so this Poppy would have been right up my alley if: a) I did not intensely dislike this hairdo and b) did not have a limited budget. Maybe Ginger would have been the obvious choice, but look at that close up photo and tell me if it does not scream envy out loud. BTW she has the Oh La La screening.

That’s a Barbie Poppy if I’ve ever seen one! Blonde and dressed in pink, with lots of goodie bags to signify greed (and to drive home the point even more, look at those logos on them), she’s like a reincarnation of Margot Robbie if she ever decides to do “Poppy Parker: The Movie”. Not very exciting apart from that, in contrast to her envious twin. The beauty mark is a lovely touch. Does the texture of her suit remind anyone of paper towels?

Best doll of the bunch alongside the following one, Erin is smashing it here. I am not that crazy about pink hair (pink and wrath don’t match that well) but it goes well with the overall punk aesthetic - Vivienne Westwood meets Alexander McQueen on Barbie. Also notice in the photo above that she has an undercut, like a punk girl would. She also reminds me a lot of the Royal Life 2007 convention dolls, especially Odd girl Out Colette Duranger - is this another Moment for Nu Face and Jessy? Is the paper bag clutch a trick or treat reference?

Isabella with a mirror to show vanity - plus her “mirrored” outfit. Instead of reusing the same mirror that Nadja had in the Heirloom collection, maybe it could have been an actual mirror bag like the Lady Dior one by Frederic Leclere, instead of the transparent one she actually comes with (see below). That might have also justified the $180 price tag (ouch!), because the dress and accessories don’t. By the way the dress is the custom Vera Wang outfit that Zendaya rocked at the 2021 CFDA Awards. Love the intricate hair do - may be that is the reason for the pricing? Overall nice but not $180 nice.

Wow! Maybe best doll of the event, this Dania is amazing, The dress is very Balenciaga (both old and new) and it is the gift that keeps on giving, with three distinct looks created from it, depending on the pieces attached or not. The doll is breathtakingly beautiful, with her sleek up-do and great make up. My only complaint is that I would have prefered black velvet opera gloves and a shiny metallic clutch to finish the look. A miniature fan would have also looked good with this. Love that choker. We have seen the spider as a choker before but I do not get how it connects with gluttony. Which otherwise is shown with the dress ever growing volumes as Jessy said during the presentation.

Nice fashion outfit for Poppy. Not crazy about the tulle coat and the fit of the dress on her body around her belly looks wrong - the tulip shape in this scale is problematic with fabrics like this. Maybe it is something that can be taken care of in styling, as it looks ok when not on the doll (see below). Despite the horns on the clutch, she looks more Christmas-y than devilish. Love her jewellery. The doll is Sizzling in Paris Poppy Parker with a slightly different hairstyle- David said it was an option they considered when designing the doll.

Stay Tuned Day 1: Integrity Toys online 2022 event begins!

It was announced earlier this year, that Integrity Toys would forgo even an online convention for 2022, doing instead a series of doll reveals via email during a week in November. The event was open to all W Club members, the theme was TV shows (hence the name Stay Tuned) and the dolls would be either sold via lottery or made to order. This past week, all W Club members were receiving three emails daily: the first, early on each day, gave a hint of what was to come by showing a retro TV display and also giving out a $100 IT gift card to those participating, the second one had a video clip made to look like a tv ad for the show that was the inspiration, showing the doll/dolls and featuring a voiceover by Alain Tremblay (usually hilarious) and the third was the actual reveal mail.

How did it go overall? Hmmm, not quite as expected. It did not even have the charm and fun of the annual Dolly Days online event that IT does usually before (and the latest was after) the holidays. Which is strange, considering that IT has done it before many times. The combination of big expectations from club members (especially now that everyone could participate) combined with a lacklustre offering from Integrity, resulted in a mixed bag. Let’s check out each day’s dolls in separate posts and see what was all about.

The first day was dedicated to East 59th - two dolls inspired by the 80s prime time soap opera Dynasty. Integrity Toys' take was named "Legacy", and it starred Victoire and her sister Della Roux playing alternate versions of Alexis Carrington-Colby and Dominique Deveraux, designed by the one and only Chris Stoeckel. The TV clip and the company’s blurb for the show are below.

In a classic episode titled "Burnt Champagne", be ready for a shocking display of disgraceful behaviour amongst the rich and famous! These bitter foes are ready to brawl over their love for the finer things in life and of course, settle the score over a man, as they come to blows to decide who will marry Blaine Wellington, the richest oil tycoon in America! Who will get the house and who will get little else but a first-class ticket out of Dodge? These two have the most peculiar way of sorting things out!

Another Della that has the same face as all her previous versions. It is a bit anticlimactic to have a favourite character looking the same in every one of the versions available - even Poppy Parker has more variety in her make up and she has had some of her face painting plates lost forever! Even worse, she looks a lot like the Pink Champagne Aurelia Grey doll from 2019 - the hairstyle and the fabrics used. Which, together with the price and timing (the lottery dolls are ready to ship after the results are announced) lead me to say no. The price of the doll is $165 for club members, five bucks more than their January release dolls - but the previous ones had more elaborate outfits and more accessories too. Bummer. Just for the record, the IT doll that is the very incarnation of Dominique Deveraux for me will always be Main Attitude Adèle Makéda - she’s the high mark all others have to compete against.

Victoire looks quite different here from her normal style. Beautiful and elegant, without the touch of over the top exuberance that typified Alexis Carrington-Colby (as played by the inimitable Joan Collins) in the 80s. She looks too much of a proper lady, if you get my point. We have seen her in red sequins before, in a different style. The bubble cut looks a bit weird, not quite there for Alexis, more like something my mother would have worn back then (or even my grandmother). And again, the complete look does not feel quite enough for the asking price. The screening is the one used on Late Night Dream, with more intense colouring.

This is by far the most gorgeous doll of this collection! Chris has done an incredible job with her, again a bit Mugler inspired I guess - this time though more adjusted to the appropriate era for East 59th (Mugler did the fur coat too back then). The fur, the bodysuit, the skirt, wow! We have seen all the accessories before, but who cares if they match so well for an exquisite ensemble? The doll is a new character but the face looks familiar. Chris confirmed in a comment on one of his Instagram posts that it is indeed a refreshed old sculpt. When I first saw her, I though of the original Kyori sculpt but more experienced collectors have commented that it it probably Alysa from the old Integrity Toys playline dolls. In any case, she’s beautiful and I hope I win the lottery for her. W Club members have until January 31st, 2021 at noon Eastern Time to enter. If they win, they have to pay only $30.00 as a first Instalment to secure the doll, that ships in summer, when the rest of the amount will have to be paid along with shipping.

The second appearance of Miss Della Roux (third if you count the scrumptious OOAK one I got from Chris Stoeckel and Integrity Toys as a gift for interviewing him live on Instagram) is a smashing one. Dressed in powder blue, with matching accessories, Della hits the ball right out of the park! She gives off Dominique Deveraux (from the original Dynasty TV series) vibes. Pure perfection. She’s sold out at most dealers and I can understand why.

Another new character introduced in this collection, Brasilian Maeve initially reminded me of the original Victoire sculpt (which was Dynamite Girls Jasper), but that one had a much more delicate nose - people who know better recognised the Integrity Toys playline Jade doll sculpt. Probably refreshed too, like Cora. Beautiful doll with a striking outfit - its versatility and different pieces plus the cigarette holder remind me of the first Constance outfit.

Evelyn is always sure to be one of the best dolls in every East 59th line up and she surely does not disappoint here. The cut of her outfit brings to mind her first outing but in quite a different concept. The Egyptian hieroglyphics print is very original. Two minor points: a. I’d love to see her in different hairstyles and hair colours and b. I would have preferred the accessories to be in that lovely shade of green from her outfit instead of powder (get it?) pink. Just nitpicking here.

An awesome opportunity to interview Chris Stoeckel about East 59th plus an incredible OOAK Della Roux!

About a week ago, Integrity Toys posted on their Instagram account that they were looking for someone to interview live Chris Stoeckel, the immensely talented designer of East 59th line of dolls, whose latest collection was quite the success! Not only that, they would also give to the person chosen for the job, an incredible OOAK Della Roux doll! I would have entered even without the doll offering, but this was even better. And yes, as most of you already know, I was the one chosen to conduct the interview through the IT Instagram account.

We had so much fun - I had sent my questions to the company beforehand, to make sure they were OK with them and that the time allotted would be covered. I also made sure that I could ask questions that the people watching would have - and that was even better! Chris told us a lot about his inspiration, his background in design and his growing up in a really diverse family, which is also his main inspiration for East 59th. Many of the dolls have names matching those of dear family members (Della is his mother, Evelyn his grandmother etc). I was lucky enough to guess that Christian Dior, Cristobal Balenciaga and Charles James are his three favourite designers - out of which he picked James as the one being that bit more favourite because he was a tortured artist, living for his passion, i.e. the clothes he created. I did not even notice how fast time passed! There will be a Fall collection for the line, of which the only definite things we know are that it will not be in autumn colours and it will not be holiday themed. There was also a moment when Chris kind of admitted (not directly though) that we are getting an Asian character for the line. He also said he might re-purpose again unused sculpts for new characters. We discovered that Eugenia and Kyori 1.0 are his favourite FR characters. Could we see Kyori 1.0 as the new East 59th character?

And then the doll: this OOAK Della is so beautiful! I missed the chance to buy the first Della at retail, so getting this OOAK doll is even more incredible for me. Chris has done an outstanding job of making both a beautiful doll, with a lovely fave and hairstyle and also a stunning gown for her to wear. The fabric of the gown is from an actual 1950s dress and the ruffle layers have a total length of three yards! This is one of the reason that this outfit could never be recreated for production. If you check her hands, you will see that the gloves have individual fingers as real ones do, and they are not the typical solution given to production dolls. Chris said he always makes them like this for his OOAK dolls.
