What a lovely surprise! I started collecting FR just in time to miss the big Refresh and Renew Trunk released back in 2006, which retailed at $224.99 and always wanted one! This is smaller in size, but, as you can see below, one can connect multiple trunks to make a larger one, and also get extra modular units to customize the look and function of the interior of the trunk. My only worry is that the material used for the finish is pleather (per the liaisons reply to a member email, the trunk is made of high impact/strong card stock and  variety of synthetic materials. Covered with vinyl/pleather and finished inside with a custom embossed velvet material. \they also note that the original trunk was constructed in the same manner, cardstock covered with vinyl), which we all know is very volatile with time - but the old trunk was made of the same materials and I have never seen anyone complaining of damage to that one. I will order this one and some of the extra units, although I know the shipping cost will kill me. Having used lots of larger doll trunks for ages as storage units for their outfits and accessories (the Franklin Mint ones), I know it is very convenient for me and my collection to have trunks like this around. Maybe in time I can get a second one too. I only wish that it had the drawers instead of the cupboard in the base trunk, they are so much more useful. On a side note, the liaisons also confirmed that you can open it to form a straight line from one side to the other.

This is good for storing more clothes on hangers. What I have not seen though is an extra element with space to hang long dresses and gowns or pants - the height of this unit does not look adequate for storing items like these. Also, another extra that would have been awesome to see: a vanity desk, stool and mirror. Maybe with functioning lights. Next time Alain? Please? Dolly Days - Day Two: The Weekend In The Poconos is the new East 59th collection!

Dolly-Days Day 2 was, much like in previous years, the day of the unveiling of the new East 59th Collection, designed by the amazing Chris Stoeckel. The collection is called The Weekend In The Poconos. Poconos was a famous resort destination in the 1950s and the concept is that some of the East 59th characters spend a weekend relaxing there. So it’s a collection of mix-and-match sportswear and matching luggage.

Three of the four dolls will be available via Integrity Toys' authorized dealers, while Laird Drake is an IT Direct item and will only be available via a right-to-buy lottery.

A redhead version of Cora - this makes her now available in three basic hair colours: blonde, black and redhead - next one should be a brunette. I love the outfit, sporty but chic and elegant, in a way that only the 1950s could. She has a suitcase and each doll has a different luggage item, so all four make a complete luggage collection. Otherwise, her accessories are minimal, which didn’t use to be the case with this line. The good thing is that she comes with extra high heeled legs, in case she has to attend a cocktail party later on. I’d get her if I had a bigger budget - all three ladies ship mid February, so it is quite fast.

Dashing Laird makes an appearance very quickly after his previous one, if you consider that it took years to make his second. Again a lottery doll (all the ladies are dealer dolls), with a limited edition of 600, it will be a bloodbath. I love his look and the colouring of it all - he looks smashing. He has a suitcase and a fedora hat, although I’d rather see him in a cap for a weekend in a resort. Come to think of it though, it is the first fedora that appears in the line, and it was about time for the guys, as it was the ubiquitous man’s hat back then. I entered the lottery, as he will be arriving mid to late March, which helps with better payment scheduling.

Dolly Days 2024 - Day One: Cold Carbon X Integrity Toys!

So Dolly Days are back again and the first day was a great surprise. It marked the debut of the first two of four dolls in the Integrity Toys X Cold Carbon Collaboration, designed by the incredible Marina Zrnić, the extremely talented creator behind the Cold Carbon brand. If you are not following her instagram or are familar with her custom OOAK dolls, check her out now! it is great to see another creator collaborating with Integrity Toys and making their work available to a wider public. There will be four dolls in the collection, two of them presented now and available through lottery for W Club members. The other two will appear in 2024, as we heard in the live presentation on Monday. Let’s hear what Marina says about the collaboration:

"I knew I wanted something gothy. I knew I loved making vampires but IT already had Dracula and the Brides so I figured, you know what, I’m just gonna make vampire killers. They don’t get much love anyway and vampire killing surely isn’t an easy job. They needed to be represented. So, I wanted to make characters with their distinct style and histories. For Bellamy, I wanted some laid-back boho goth, as he is a pretty laid-back guy, led by a sense of what feels good. Jordan got a western/cowboy style goth that complements her more 'lone rider' character." -Marina Zrnić (Cold Carbon)

But who is Marina Zrnić and how did she end up making those amazing OOAK dolls?

"I was born in a small town in Croatia in 1988, and growing up in that specific environment was very challenging. I loved drawing and fashion design since very young age but my funny, and very honest worry was, what if I run out of inspiration and start creating from my head? I could see that a lot and that, combined with the awareness of my environment led me to forget about that dream. I studied American Literature and Indology, and was very interested in Environmental History and Bioethics but at the same time, I really suffered without a creative outlet I abandoned.

So, when I changed my diet, I found creativity in raw food chef position, but life decided to put me on the path where I will find the creativity that truly resonated with me. In a very, what some might see as, illogical way I 'found out' about doll collecting and Integrity Toys dolls and I knew I wanted to make dolls. Of course, I had no idea about the whole doll collecting world and possibilities, how to repaint, or reroot, what materials to use… zero… but it was a beam of clarity and healing I needed at that time, and I didn’t question how. I just knew I’m making dolls. One thing led to another and I realized people wanted my dolls, despite them being very niche.

And something like 5 years later, here I am. For me, making dolls is making characters. Getting to know parts of yourself you might not be aware of. In my characters, my 'crew', I could see the parts of me I didn’t want to see, I forgot about, I judged, I craved for and it led to some amazing integrations. I love putting dolls in stories and connecting with them through archetypes we all have in ourselves. It’s a way to find compassion for yourself and consequently for the whole of humanity. Bellamy always turns out amazing - I have yet to see one bad looking version. Combine that with the creativity of Marina and you have a winner. Even with the restrictions that making a doll for mass production entails, she manages to give us a doll worthy of her OOAK work, alluring and mysterious, different and alternative from the usual IT fare. Making me like a long haired male doll is a feat on its own! I’m not that crazy about guns on dolls, I think that could have been avoided with different vampire hunter weapons (swords, knives, stakes etc.). Love his kimono style overcoat and the flowery shirt (that weirdly makes the character even more mysterious - a vampire hunter in florals?) and his boots are awesome. I love the hat, and it’s a first this style appears on an IT doll, as well as the awesome glasses! Bellamy’s jewellery are also great, as are his tattooed hands (with traditional Balkan motifs). Let’s hope I can win him in the lottery.

Jordan is always a welcome appearance in IT reveals and she makes a gorgeous doll here. The hairstyle is something we have seen on Cold Carbon OOAK dolls (almost) and the hair colour fits her perfectly. She looks closer to a cowboy (or cowgirl) more than Bellamy does, what with the bolo tie, the cowboy boots and belt and the hat (which we have seen before on IT dolls, as well as the glasses). It is a bit weird that none of the photos show the chain double earring, although we did see it on the video presentation. She’s beautiful but not my cup of tea. If she was closer to the more edgy and extreme styles Cold Carbon usually does, I might have caved in, but not as she is now and for that price. Awesome trunk (with Cold Carbon written on it).

Fashion Royalty Moments mini collection - did we really need this?

We already knew since the beginning of this club year that a major part of the releases in 2023 would be “Moments”, i.e. repeated versions in alternate colours of previous dolls from Jessy Ayala. Fashion Royalty now has three new dolls for the Moments Collection, designed by him. They are all available through W Club-only "right-to-buy" lotteries and each has an edition of 1,200 dolls. I think the Moments idea was interesting but that it had to expand throughout the IT history and not only on Jessy’s dolls. There are so many incredible dolls that deserved a second appearance in a recoloured version and we are not getting that, having instead dolls that their original versions are only a few years old.

This doll is a re-imagining of the Little Day Ensemble Veronique from the 2020 Maison FR Collection - but not just that. The choice of fabric and colours (both doll and ensemble) give the doll a very Stylish Escape vibe - a W Club doll from 2006 (800 edition). Nice but I already have the original Stylish Escape suit, so it is more than enough for my collection. Would love to have this bag though, it is gorgeous.

Another iteration of the Glam aesthetic, this Adele is a direct recolouring of Miami Glam Kesenia Valentinova from 2020 online convention, who was a re-imagining of Glow Vanessa Perrin from 2006m who was inspired by the Versace Barbie of 2004. The doll looks gorgeous and reminds me of two previous versions of her: Le Smoking from the Gloss convention (2014) and Petite Robe Classique from the 2020 online event. The dress was not a favourite in its first iteration on Kesenia, it remains so this time, with the added problem that it looks very transparent. I might have entered for this doll but January means two pre-orders arriving, so I will skip. Best doll of the three in my opinion. They gave a warning about her hair colour in the email:

We have seen Agnes sport chartreuse before: Truly, Madly, Deeply was the event doll at the 2012 collection presentation. She even had a hairstyle quite similar to this. Of course she is the recoloured version of Intimate Soirée from the 2020 online convention. She looks gorgeous and the colouring suits her a lot. But, as I already have Truly, Madly, Deeply as well as the 2014 event doll High Visibility, who has similar colouring (red hair and lips), I think I’m covered. Love the fox brooch. And I remembered that her dress reminds me of Cosmetic Takeover Natalia.

So, are you entering for any of these three ladies? You can also check the video showing them rotating - and wonder why did Adele get short-shifted and has what clearly is a bad, homemade video, instead of the glammed up one the other two dolls have.

Neutral Code: Poppy Parker goes mod once more!

We got a mini collection of Poppy Parker dolls this year - and, as we already knew, it is inspired by the Mod era. The concept is that Poppy travels from New York to London for the opening of avant-garde artist Riley Ridget's latest "Op Art" installation. Designed by David Buttry, it is the first ever Poppy Parker collection completely in black and white. Two dolls are lottery through the W Club and the others are sold through dealers.

I love this one - the smoky eye combined with pale lips is always a winner for me and the pied-de-poule (or hounds-tooth) pattern always a favourite.She fully embodies the concept. She will look great next to The Girl from I.N.T.E.G.R.I.T.Y. Poppy from 2014, which would fit perfectly in this collection too. She has the Hold That Tiger screening. The closest I could get researching the inspiration is this 1966 Geoffrey Beene outfit.

Not feeling this one. And the main reason is that she reminds me a lot of the British Invasion Poppy from the Swinging London collection in 2017, which I already own. Then, it is the lip colour that does not seem to go with her hair colouring at all. She has darker hair than BI. Also their hats are identical - only BI’s is white.  So I skipped entering the lottery for this one. The inspiration is from a 2013 outfit from Fay Spring Summer collection, which of course was inspired by similar mod era dresses.

It looks like I’m finally getting a freckle faced doll after all - this Ginger looks like the epitome of mod era girl in the variety of outfits she comes in! Love her short hairstyle, overall Twiggy inspiration and Cardin inspired extreme coat, along with her Courrèges boots and striped hooded outfit (either Mary Quant or Rudi Gernreich inspired). She will compliment She’s Not There Poppy Parker so well.
